On the Christian Bale page it says he's English when he is Welsh. I just thought I would say so it can be changed. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bethbee97 (talkcontribs) 22:48, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Virgil Lee Griffin, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Communist Workers' Party. Kach and Kahane Chai

[edit]

Hello Hitcher vs. Candyman. As you've probably seen, I reverted your change to the Kach and Kahane Chai article re the foundation date. The party contested the 1973 elections, so cannot have been founded in 1974 (I was halfway through typing this out in the edit summary and accidentally hit enter before I could finish or add sources). 1974 is probably the year it adopted the name Kach, and some sloppy researchers have assumed this is its foundation date. I've provided a source for 1971 and the name change. Cheers, Number 57 22:30, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits to Zoe_Tamerlis_Lund

[edit]

I have recently noticed some alterations to this page, and made some edits to correct what I recognized to be erroneous information.

Statements I made were deleted due to lack of reference. Writing as user 'lundo', I am Robert Lund, Zoë's former husband, and my statements are based on our 11 years of living together. I was present at home during the writing of the Bad Lt. script, and I know for a fact that during 1990-91 de Laurot was holed up sick, living at an ex-girlfriend's apartment, we were blocked from contacting him, and the situation regarding his survival was dire. There was no way any collaboration could have taken place between them on the Bad Lt. work, regardless of claims made by an old friend of Edouard's. And I discussed Curfew_USA with Edouard out in a night club before meeting his woman Zoë, and held their printed screenplay Curfew:USA in my hand many times. I even have an old copy of it somewhere. Having read itk and discussed its conversion into her screenplay Free Will & Testament, I am fully familiar with the parallels between the two screenplays, and there was never any mention of anything resembling a book related to Curfew:USA, which was always known as the film Zoë and Edouard were planning to make together. Again, who should you believe, the husband of Zoë or an old friend of our old friend Edouard?

For future reference, how should attribution of this personal nature be attributed in the context of Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lundo (talkcontribs) 09:41, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lundo: You happen to be correct on one thing: your statements have been deleted due to lack of reference. Your claims are to be based on WP:reliable sources along with WP:no original research. If there are no reliable sources to prove these claims, then they are to be deleted from the article. Please also see WP:Biographies of living persons (even though Zoe Tamerlis Lund is deceased, her article is still considered a biographical article). Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 16:11, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have made corrections to statements which are apparently based on the word of 3rd parties (e.g. Mekas), based on the personal experiences and events that I witnessed in my real life. I have not written these facts in any printed bio or other source that might be considered a 'reliable source', but surely Wikipedia must provide for facts based on eye-witness accounts. Similarly, how is listing Barbara as Zoë's mother acceptable with no "reliable source", but including her including her father rejected? You are obviously working diligently on this page, and it would seem to be in the interests of the long-term accuracy of the account for you to value the input of the husband of the deceased. e.g. I heard a great deal about the screenplay for The Innocent Tribunal in 1986, but it was most certainly an idea for a possible future project, for which not a single frame would ever be shot. It is very disturbing to see the public page of someone so close to me growing daily by the addition of unsubstantiated rumors and misinformation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lundo (talkcontribs) 15:55, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lundo: I'm afraid Wikipedia is forbidden to provide facts based on eyewitness accounts; please see WP:Conflict of interest, WP:Verifiability and WP:Verifiability, not truth. By the way, references 4 & 7 in Zoe's list of references/reliable sources mention her mother being a sculptor. Reference 7 also mentions her mother's name, Barbara Lekberg. Neither of these references mention her father at all.

I apologize if this is "disturbing" for you, but in my defense, I'm only trying to contribute to Zoe's article; at the same time, I'm also trying to follow the policies of Wikipedia. Now it's okay to deny the information provided in her article. But if you're going to post your denials on Wikipedia, then you must provide references or reliable sources for these denials. I'm sorry, but personal experiences don't count. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 18:08, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have serious copyright concerns about this article, which I believe relies far too heavily for creative content on its primary source, [1]. Not only does it heavily mine quotes, problematic under our non-free content policy, but it uses verbatim and minimally altered supporting material from the source. For examples, consider the following:

Source text Article text
Ironic, considering Clark first reached the public eye as a model for various New York magazines and newspapers during the late 1960s -- “a wonderful time, because more and more opportunities like that were opening up for black women,” she notes. These gigs led to bit parts in late-‘60s filmed like FOR LOVE OF IVY, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, and -- most notably -- PUTNEY SWOPE..... Clark first reached the public eye as a model for various New York magazines and newspapers during the late 1960s. Clark noted her experiences as a model as “a wonderful time, because more and more opportunities like that were opening up for black women.” These gigs led to Clark getting offered bit parts in films made in the late 1960s like For Love of Ivy (1968) with Sidney Poitier, the Academy Award for Best Picture winner Midnight Cowboy (1969) with Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, and most notably Putney Swope (1969) which was directed by Robert Downey, Sr.
...Clark joined the cast during fall 1976.... a rare opportunity to exercise her comedic skills. Clark joined the cast during the fall of 1976 and the show presented Clark in a rare opportunity to exercise her comedic skills.

These examples demonstrate a reliance on the organization and the creative language of the source. While facts are not copyrightable, creative elements of presentation – including both structure and language – are.

As a website that is widely read and reused, Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously to protect the interests of the holders of copyright as well as those of the Wikimedia Foundation and our reusers. Wikipedia's copyright policies require that the content we take from non-free sources, aside from a few brief and clearly marked quotations in accordance with WP:NFC, be rewritten from scratch.

The article has been replaced with a notice of these copyright concerns that includes directions for resolving them. If the material can be verified to be compatibly licensed or public domain or if permission is provided, we can use the original text with proper attribution. If you can resolve it that way, please let me know if you need assistance with those directions. Otherwise, so that we can be sure it does not constitute a derivative work, this article should be rewritten; there is a link to a temporary space for that purpose in the instructions which now appear in place of the article. The essay Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing contains some suggestions for rewriting that may help avoid these issues. The article Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-04-13/Dispatches, while about plagiarism rather than copyright concerns, also contains some suggestions for reusing material from sources that may be helpful, beginning under "Avoiding plagiarism".

The matter will be reviewed by an administrator or copyright clerk 7 or more days after the tagging. If you have comments, please place them on the talk page of the article so that the individual who reviews the listing can see them before closing the listing. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:01, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Moonriddengirl: In that case, I would like your assistance with those directions please.Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 22:30, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, the easiest and quickest way to verify is generally to put a license on the external site, but since the interview first appeared in Fangoria, it's a little more complex. Copyright is generally owned by the creator of a work - so the interviewer, in this case - but is sometimes assigned to magazines on publication. Ordinarily, we would ask the webmaster to put a statement on the source page indicating that it is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 and GNU Free Documentation License, but in this case we would also need indication that the website is owned by the author of the interview and that he remains free to license the material (that is, that he hasn't assigned rights to his publisher). See Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials#You_cannot_donate_what_someone_else_owns for more on that. In the case of a weblog of this sort, that's likely to be the best process, rather than email. If email is preferred, I can describe how to do that, too, but it will begin by creating a "contact" page or a subdomain of the site that lists a contact address. If you are in position to place a license or have one places and do so, please let me know and link to it, and I can get it archived and put up the template on the talk page so we can clear the concern. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:50, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Moonriddengirl: I would prefer that a license is to be put on the external site rather than email. By the way, after reading Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2015 July 14, I would like to inform to you that I am not the editor you mentioned. I have no connection at all with that editor whatsoever.Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 23:52, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to hear it; I didn't see a connection, but we had prior issues with an editor copy-pasting content from various sources into that article and hundreds of others in spite of blocks. I have absolutely no desire to have to deal with him again. :) So, if you are able to put a notice on the external site, please just ping me when you do, and I'll do the rest. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:39, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Moonriddengirl: I truly apologize in advance but I am unable to put a license on the external site because I don't know how.Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 16:18, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hitcher vs. Candyman, if you have an affiliation with the site or are in contact with someone who does, it can either be put on the site in general or on the bottom of the specific article on the site which is to have creative content copied to Wikipedia.
In regards to your question on my talk page, there's no intention to block your account, and, indeed, I'd really rather not. :) Wikipedia needs willing workers. We block the accounts of people who repeatedly place copyrighted content on Wikipedia without verifying license, but I do not assume you intended to cause any issues at all. If you can verify license, there's no additional problem. If you can't verify license, the content needs to be reworked so that it meets our approach to unlicensed material, but it's still just a question of getting it to conform to policy. It's very, very rare that we block accounts of people for copyright issues without trying to work them out first - generally only when the problems are really egregious and widespread and there's no other way to stop it. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:36, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Moonriddengirl: I'm glad we've come to an understanding. :) Therefore, I cannot verify license as aforementioned. I still don't want to use email because I don't want to reveal my identity to a stranger. Thank you for your understanding.Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 01:14, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. So do you want to rewrite the content in the blank space provided, or should I revert the content to allow you to reconstruct it at your leisure? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:23, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Moonriddengirl: Please do revert the content. Please and thank you. :) Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 01:28, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have reverted to prior to the introduction of creative content (several edits in; your first edits were entirely without issue). In rebuilding, please review Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Limited quotations from the source are okay, but in the absence of license we must keep them limited. We aim for more conservative standard than American "fair use" both because these are boundaries we really don't need to push and because we release our content for reuse anywhere, in any circumstances, including commercially and internationally, and what might be "fair" for a non-profit encyclopedia based in America might not be "fair" for a for-profit textbook in Germany. The bulk of content should be written in entirely fresh language and structure. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:52, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Synthesis at Cimino

[edit]

To create a section saying Cimino works with many of the same people over and over, you would need at least one reference saying that Cimino works with many of the same people over and over. The references you supplied don't say that, so your section was a synthesis, per WP:SYNTH. I hope you can find the one reference which will tie the thing together. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
