Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:45, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 20:44, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am a very regular contributer to Wiki and am usually based on foriegn articles that get a lot of vandalism and 'incorrect' good-faith edits. I monitor articles on a frequent basis and try to help new editors when I have seen that they are consistantly doing something incorrectly - see my talk page. The article Harun Tekin (footballer) has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Bursaspor

[edit]

I apologize for my mistake - I meant to include that section in my rewrite, but I forgot about it! Do you have any more interesting facts about the clubs history? The club website isn't very thorough. Also, do you have a source backing up their state imposed promotion? I might have passed over it on their website - I'll check again - but if you have a different source please add it :)

Linking to Turkish Football Federation website

[edit]

Hello Hayalperest. Thank you for working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Turkish football. I've noticed that you are using the TFF website as a source for player biographies (it is a great site for this). However, you are linking the Turkish-language version of the pages (i.e., http://www.tff.org/Default.aspx?pageId=30&kisiId=21617). If you change the pageId= paramter to 526 (i.e., http://www.tff.org/Default.aspx?pageId=526&kisiId=21617) the page will appear in English, which is much easier for most Wikipedia users to read. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 17:27, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jogurney, yes I completely agree about using the English version. I guess I tend to use the default Turkish as it is generally a bit more up-to-date, and gets updated quicker, but I will make sure I add the English version in future. The article Serdar Gürler has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Did not play a single game in a fully-professional league and therefore fails WP:ATHLETE

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. [edit]

Please accept my apologies for deleting your other edits when I reverted to the last version with Tuncay still at Middlesbrough. What with the vandalism and the copyediting going on at the same time, I thought it would be quickest to go a long way back, and didn't realise how much other work you'd done in the meantime. Hopefully you'll be able to copy it back from the older version. Or if there's anything you'd like me to help with, tidying up the references or whatever, please ask. Current requests for protection/Tuncay

[edit]

Semi protection Hi I want to request protection for Tuncay Sanli's page. This article is being vandalised heavily and consistantly. It did get 3-day semi protection a couple of weeks back, and not only did it stop during the three days, but the IP vandaliser's didnt come back for like a week after! I believe it should have a much longer semi-protection. Some user's are added stupid and libel info too, which is completely unrelated to the article. www.antu.com

Hi, I was trying to update a page and this website seemed to be blocked. I am not sure why?

I was trying to add the links to Tuncay Sanli's page. Although the site is in Turkish it is a site run in conjunction with Fenerbahce football club. It is one of their sponsors. I was trying to use the links: antu.com/AntuHaberOku.aspx?ID=5146 and antu.com/AntuHaberOku.aspx?ID=8482 as it shows the list's of 'Player of the Year' Awards, awarded for the Fenerbahce footballers. Antu is the sponsor/organiser of the Awards, hence why I was trying to link to the official site.

This site was blacklisted for cross-wiki spamming, see here. However, I am inclined to grant this request and will do so in around a week unless I see a reason not to. Stifle (talk) 09:27, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heres an Idea; Since Our readers are better served with english references and links, try;
Since translate.google.com is not blacklisted you can use the origional (now translated) article. Cheers --Hu12 (talk) 18:20, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yes it would be good if it could be un-blocked as the site can then be referenced to all players at the club, etc. Also, thats a good idea about the google-translate tool too. Regards (Hayalperest (talk) 11:57, 19 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]
See Wikipedia:EL#Non-English_language_content. No reason for whitelisting Turkish content on the English-language Wikipedia, as English language content is preferred. Use translate.google.com. cheers--Hu12 (talk) 19:06, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree that having English is better, but some websites translate very badly using the Google-Translate tool. It is effective, but I have checked with the Antu site, and the translation isnt very good. Infact it is pretty bad, it hasn't even translated a lot of the words. I believe it would still be beneficial to have the original site as a reference. I do not believe that this will be detrimental to Wiki. Many pages have foriegn language references, if there are no official site's with the English equivalent. Given the reason for wanting to get *this* site unblocked (ie. as it is the official sponsor and the company that gives the awards), I would rather use Antu instead of google translate, as that would mean I have to translate every page for *each* player's awards which are handed out *each* season. Regards (Hayalperest (talk) 20:27, 23 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]
I know your fairly new (since june), so let me explain. Its first a resticted link (see #2), this is meta-blacklisted. Additionaly it is not an official link of either articles subject (per WP:EL). Thirdly being both the previous, its is not English language content. In addition I've provided a reasonable alternative, which is available now and in english. Perhaps your request is beter served on the Turkish Wikipedia ? --Hu12 (talk) 22:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No probs... If Wiki rules will not allow this site to be unblocked, then that is the rules, and that is that..? Am a little dissapointed but I am happy to use the alternative Google-Translate if that is what is the only available way to link to the antu.com site. Thank you for your time. Temporary semi-protection Temporary protection for a couple of days is needed due to vandalism from IP addresses. Do not expect it to continue after 48-72 hours due to nature of article (current footballer speculation). Today the page has had sections blanked and changed from many different IP's. Thus should stop in a couple of days. Regards (Hayalperest (talk) 17:17, 10 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Arda Turan

[edit]
Hello Ozanozan

I just wanted to say thank you for your contributions to wiki but I have to ask why do you consistantly delete people's edits from the Arda Turan page?

While it is good that you undo vandalism, many edits that you have un-done are not. Wikipedia is a neutral source of information and does not take sides. For example, my edits that I added to Arda Turan's page were more up to date and provided a more in-depth and enhanced information page for him. I updated his club statistics and added the values correctly, as the values before were added wrong. I do not understand why you feel that you needed to delete this. Also I made the headings clickable - such as making 'League' into 'Süper Lig'.

There is no reason that this should be undone, as the information added is correct. If you continue to 'Vandalise' his page, and un-do other people's CORRECT edits, then I will report you for it and you would be banned. I do not want to do this, but you are causing unneeded disruption when, instead, the time could be used to update his page or achievements and recent details, such as the fact that he is now captain, etc, etc.

Thank you for taking time to read this. Don't forget, we are both here to help make Wikipedia article's better, not destroy other peoples work and effort.

Hepsi

[edit]

The individual Hepsi band members fail WP:MUSIC as individuals notable for their work in only one musical ensemble, and with no notable solo careers. As such they should be redirected to the main Hepsi article. Thanks, Ironholds (talk) 16:58, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've checked the WP:Music and in the first box, it stats that a musician is notable if they have had sucess such as had their music in the charts. "Hepsi" the group, have had, and thus each member should have a page created? IE/ for more info on them as individuals such as their DOB's, where they grew up, how old they were when they released the music etc. Otherwise, surely that would be like saying certain members from "Westlife" shouldnt have their own page as some of them havent had solo careers... ? Regards (Hayalperest (talk) 17:03, 4 August 2009 (UTC)) (Hayalperest (talk))[reply]

That section refers to albums by the individuals as entertainers, not albums by the band as a whole - if it was otherwise we'd have articles on musicians from every band that passes that rule. Using Westlife as the example - Nicky Byrne was a professional footballer, Kian Egan is otherwise non-notable (and so I've just redirected him to the westlife article), Mark Feehily has independent coverage by third-party sources and passes WP:BIO if not WP:MUSIC, Shane Thingy was also non-notable and so I've redirected. Ironholds (talk) 17:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to solo careers - the solo careers themselves need to pass WP:MUSIC, otherwise it doesn't really count. Simply announcing that someone is thinking of a solo career, or have started one but has no "hits", for example, is not good enough. Ironholds (talk) 17:11, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I understand and with re-directing a couple of the Westlife boys that is fair. If that is the rule than it should be enforced consistantly, and with those who have non-notable indiviual careers. So yes I agree with you. I was led to believe that along with Westlife amongst others, that all the individuals from the band could have their own pages. At least Gülçin Ergül should have an individual page as she has now gone solo and left the group Hepsi...? Regards (Hayalperest (talk) 17:13, 4 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Yeah, the problem is that people don't always go to the pages with enforcement in mind. If you find any others you think should be redirected, drop me a line on my talkpage and I'll take a look. In regards to her solo career - that career must itself pass WP:MUSIC. If her solo career has resulted in songs that go onto the official charts, for example, then that's fine. Ironholds (talk) 17:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, cheers. Regards (Hayalperest (talk) 17:26, 4 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Karadeniz

[edit]
Dear Hayalperest,

It's a pleasure to be the first to type for your discussion page. I have checked your recent changes on Batuhan Karadeniz's article and I am very happy that there are someone who contributes the articles about Turkish football. However, I have some concerns about those, as well.

I could get that you have edited the article in order to keep it up-to-date, but I could not get why you have removed some sections despite they are referenced by paper news/articles. For instance, I have seen that you changed the playing style section, but you did not strengthen your citations with decent references, instead just kept the existing reference which does not include the words you typed. And this is not even applicable cause that reference is considerably old one when Karadeniz was just a 15 year-old lad and about 6'1,5", which is about 2 inches shorter than today!

Actually, I do agree with your contributions that Karadeniz is stands at 6'3, has a respectable aerial ability, but we must develop the articles in accordance with Wikipedia Policies. Wikipedia is a neutral publication, does take no sides, and against the subjective adjectives over the articles such as Karadeniz to have a "great" aerial ability.

More over, I have noticed that you have completely removed the controversy section. I really can not get why you did that without discussing the terms in "discussion page" first. The thing you did is like you just ignore the incidents which Karadeniz caused. I was about to add the Eskişehir incidents lately and now there is nothing in the article.

Please discuss the significant changes on the articles before you implement them.

Thanks for reading,

Umi1903 (talk) 12:28, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Umi, thank you for your message.

I generally spend my time updating details and facts and spelling errors etc. I think what you are refering to, with the changes I made, is that the speculative accusations were very outdated and certain incidents had since been ended and concluded, and thus were now shown to be irrelevent, hence why they were removed.

However, I do agree with the fact that just because someone is 6'3, does not neccessarily mean they are actually 'great' in the air!

Regards

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to The Towers fire. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!
