I know, I don't understand it either. Yes, the image is probably public domain but without evidence how can we know for sure. I hope the closing admin will decide based on (lack off) evidence. Animal trapping references

I checked the sources and neither one turned up anything in relation to animal trapping. In the articles reference section, chinese characters without any verifiable internal or external links make up one reference while the other is a string of chinese characters that leads to the wikipedia article on the Chinese language. I fail to see how an internal link to the Wiki article on the Chinese Language contributes to Animal Trapping. Neither source is verifiable as per wiki rules. Please change the references to include a usable source as per section 3 "how to cite sources" WP:REF. I agree with you and Carole Hillenbrand that Rūm is the Muslim term for the Byzantine Empire. The distinction between the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire is one of modern historiography. Thank you for your service

Ran across your contributions on Maitreya and read your user page out of curiosity. As a dyed-in-the-wool civilian I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you for your service. I observed once to a fella waiting in an airport terminal that nothing says your ready to serve your country than wearing a pair of jump boots — which he was.

My parents were both military brats, so unlike most of the rest of us civilians I recognize that the families sacrfice almost as much as the service members themselves.

Sources and notability added

Hi Ghostexorcist: Shavua Tov: I have spent some time improving the two articles currently up for deletion. The Adas Israel Congregation and Adath Jeshurun Congregation articles, now renamed Adas Israel Congregation (Duluth) and Adath Jeshurun Congregation (Minnetonka) to differentiate them from other similar sounding congregations elsewhere, are now a full articles. They meet all criteria for such articles. I also wish to point out that this is proof of what can and should be done to improve stubs. Merely because someone has started a stub does not mean that the article of a place/person/event are "not notable" since not all people have the time and capability of working to improve such articles. There is no statute of limitations on how long a stub deemed to be significant can exist and it is certainly no reason to invoke reasons to eliminate them, otherwise why do we have stubs in the first place? Like Shahar's lecture, Wile's article is about the "relation between literary development and the actual practice of the martial-arts during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries" but in relation to Tai Chi Ch'uan rather than Gold Bell qigong.

There was also an issue of Classical Fighting Arts a couple months back that had articles by both Stan Henning and Brian Kennedy & Elizabeth Guo. I found the Kennedy & Guo article, a detailed history of Jing Wu, particularly illuminating.

Dear wiki thug, there was no vandalism of the Maitreya article by me. The Baha'is have not made a case as to why there should be a mention of their creed in an article that is about Buddhism. You might not like that because the Baha'is apparently seem to be your friends and you are biased towards them, but this doesn't change the fact that they are the ones vandalizing wikipedia by gratuitously attempting to put their stamp on every article - not I.

Kung Fu Edits...

Fair enough, bro. I mean you guys didn't do a bad job on the page, but if you want to present more than the average McDojo view of gong fu, other things could be added. You guys did all the work though, so I can see how you might be hesitant to allow other to contribute, though wikipedia is advertised as a place where anyone can contribute to articles. Cheung Lai Chun and Lum Yu Gwai are quite well know to the Cantonese and Hakka peoples though, and if you google Cheung Lai Chun or Bak Mei Pai, his name'll come up thousands of times. I might not think some of the guys you guys listed are that notable either, but that's easy for me to say after you guys've done all the hard work of creating a long, well organized, informative page.

Ibn Battuta

I imagine that most good university libraries would have the set of Hakluyt Society volumes. I picked up the first three volumes at a used-book store some years ago, then bought the fourth volume and the index as they were published. If you go to bookfinder.com and enter "Ibn Battuta Travels" in the title field and "Hakluyt Society" in the keywords field, you should be able to find what's available in the secondhand market. I don't recall what I paid for vols. 1–3; probably around $100. But that was 20 years or more ago. From the BookFinder listings I saw, it looks as though you could assemble a set (minus the index volume, perhaps) for about half of the $530 by buying the individual volumes from different dealers. Ashkelon

Hey, I know this is almost a year late but I stopped editing last year and haven't looked at my user page at all for some time. I've finished my A level courses now and have more time on my hands... I know its rude to reply so late, but I would be enthusiastic about working with you to include the history of the Jews in the city during the 12th century. The Fatimids and Crusaders were the major powers involved in the history of Ashkelon at this time so I dont think we should overemphasise the importance of the contemporary Jewish community BUT Ashkelon is part of modern Israel and as such I think it is important that Jewish history is mentioned, my apologies for not doing so previously.

Don't worry, if I add that Hartwell source I will distinguish it from the other Hartwell source by spelling out for each citation in the article a shorthand version of each book title tacked on, separated by commas of course, to the authors' last names. That will be a lot of work, and I will only really resort to doing that if I add the Hartwell source you've found. Also, about these Persian embassies, they are not really coming from the same political entity ruling "Persia" at that point in time. Before 1037, Persia was dominated by the Buyid dynasty, and after that by the Seljuq dynasty. "Persian" could also mean tribute from a variety of different Iranian peoples at that point. Unless Hartwell specifically states that these tribute envoys were coming from the Buyid court and then the Seljuq court, I can't use them. That would be original research on my part to assume I knew where this so-called Persian tribute was coming from. In the beginning of that book in pdf format, Hartwell mentions that his work is not perfectly clear, and he specifically asks scholars to challenge his work as it is not definitive. See the conundrum with this? I really want to use this source, it's a treasure trove of information, but I also think it is dangerous if not checked by other sources. Hartwell drew these tables up pretty much as a self-published research tool. I'd feel more comfortable just finding one of Hartwell's (or someone else's) book published by a university press that details Sino-Persian relations during the Song.--Pericles of Athens^Talk 10:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Once again, I'd love to use it, but I'm fretful about doing so. I don't think it would be the wisest thing to do, because obvious questions arise about what court sent the embassies and what political entity the embassies represented. Even if you could reason "well, this had to be the Buyid court" or "this had to be the Seljuq court", that would still be putting words into Hartwell's mouth that he never said. If I did that, the quality of the Society of the Song Dynasty article would be lessened, as it wouldn't be a faithful representation of the source used.--Pericles of Athens^Talk 18:48, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I assume you are talking about the phrase "Such links should not be used unless following the link would genuinely help the reader understand the topic more fully". I can understand that with regards to single years, but not in regards to the "in television" links. To my mind, seeing what else was going on in television at the same time *does* "help the reader understand the topic more fully", especially given the context of a chronological list of productions. The legitimacy of the links in a given article is an issue for editorial debate and not something that should be decided out-of-hand by a bot.

Regardless, that bot should be leaving a more expansive explanation of what it is doing and not just "Units/dates/other", which explains nothing. Rhindle The Red (talk) 17:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Avatar: Anime or Cartoon?

I'd like to discuss it with you as you seem so inclined to state it's an anime. I believe the article shouldn't outright state it's an American Cartoon as there are just as many websites and people claiming it to be an anime then there are people who believe that it's a cartoon. http://www.absoluteanime.com/avatar_the_last_airbender/ and http://au.anime.ign.com/objects/142/14208728.html are two of such websites that classify it to be an anime. Song Ci

I think the reason why book and author articles are usually seperate is that most authors produce more than one book. Then it makes sense not to have to reproduce the author info for each book article. Here though Song Ci as far as I can tell is only known for his one book "Collected Cases of Injustice Rectified" and this might be a case for an exception to the usual book and author seperate rule. Both book and author articles are a bit stubby and merging them made more sense to me. What do you think? K.murphy (talk) 20:53, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
