Orphaned fair use image (Image:Steaua-Bucuresti-Logo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Steaua-Bucuresti-Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:Banelnicolita.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Banelnicolita.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. mattbr30 10:36, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove the original template I have added to the page. Follow the instructions above if you wish to dispute my tagging. The image is of a living person, so an image could be taken and released under a licence Wikipedia accepts, therefore it is replaceable and violates the first fair use criterion. Please do not upload any more images of living people as you have done with Image:ÉltonJoséXavierGomes.jpg and Image:AndreyNazarioAfonso.jpg, as these also fail the first fair use criterion and I have tagged them as such. Please ask if you have any questions. mattbr 12:15, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:BlazonPolitehnica1921.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BlazonPolitehnica1921.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:FC_Unirea_Urziceni.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:FC_Unirea_Urziceni.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 22:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CupaRomanieiTimisoreana.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:CupaRomanieiTimisoreana.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Liga IV and Liga V

[edit]

Take a look at these articles created by User:Dan69en: Liga IV and Liga V. These levels do not exist in the Romanian football league system. Below Liga III there are the county football associations, each with its own league system.

User:Dan69en modified the Template:Football in Romania, adding Liga IV (2 divisions) and Liga V (2 divisions).

Even if you consider Liga IV to be the top level of the county football leagues, there are 42 divisions, not 2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Edgar81 (talkcontribs) 07:50, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Football stadium articles

[edit]

Hi there. I notice that, over the years, you have edited many of the articles on Romanian football stadiums and that you have moved many of those pages to their Romanian names (for example, moving Nicolae Dobrin Stadium to Stadionul Nicolae Dobrin on 19 May).

Wikipedia's policies on article names can be found at Wikipedia: Naming conventions. In particular, take a look at Wikipedia: Naming conventions (use English). It is Wikipedia policy that, in these kind of cases, the English names be used on the English encyclopaedia. I have moved many of the pages back to their English titles accordingly. There are almost certainly more pages that need moving and your help would be much appreciated. Thanks for all your editing. — Lincolnite (talk) 13:07, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. A tag has been placed on Laura Ioana Andrei requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Josh Tudela

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your note. So, let me get this straight: the ONLY source you will accept as reliable is the club's own website? Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that conflict with WP:SOURCES, in which the main source of information should be a SECONDARY source (i.e. a newspaper or reputable journal) and not the PRIMARY source (which in this case would be the club). Waiting for a press release from the club and not allowing any other valid sources seems to be completely opposite of Wiki's policy.

Now, I don't read Romanian, but a very quick google search resulted in these results: [1], [2], [3] - all of which seem to be saying that Tudela has signed a 3-year deal with Steaua. Wiki itself says that Cotidianul and Evenimentul Zilei (EVZ) are a major Romanian newspapers. Are you seriously saying that articles published in these sources cannot be considerd valid? Because, if you are, then you have impossibly high standards which stand at odds with every other sourcing policy on this site. --JonBroxton (talk) 22:39, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Cezar Lungu and others

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated articles are Cezar Lungu, Lucian Filip. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to the relevant discussion pages: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cezar Lungu (2nd nomination) for Cezar Lungu, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lucian Filip for Lucian Filip. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sergio Tacchini

[edit]

I came to the Tacchini article from the business side and did quite a bit of work on it. One step I took with a little uncertainty was to take off a top-of-the-page "needs citations" tag and put the in-line template where there were lines or blocks without citation. I think it's OK, but I was then perusing the article history and noticed one of your edits as one of the unfootnoted "Sponsored players: Past" (Lindstedt). (I was curious how you knew the cricketer wasn't sponsored, too, while we're on this one. And, second, I took a small chance by calling all but Djokovic "Past" based just on the MarketWatch article which had brought me to the page. Hope the article was right.) Anyway, coming next to your page it's clear European tennis is a forté of yours and maybe you'd like to take up the challenge of trying to find citations for the article where needed. (I ended up my editing hoping the company would see it and do a "History" page on its website.)

Well, there's my bit for what it's worth. Thanks for your work, and cheers. Swliv (talk) 00:42, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PROD of tennis articles.

[edit]

Per my understanding the new WP:NTENNIS guidelines apply to all articles regardless of when they were created. Additionally, per the new guidelines a player has to play in a higher level WTA tournament (Finals, major, or premier tournaments) none of which Tashkent is. Ravendrop 04:43, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Spanish names

[edit]

Hello Gabinho,

I must disagree with your revert. Only married names use hyphens. Look at these examples of Spanish tennisplayers:

and I only got as far as the C.

In addition, refer to the Catalan article ca:Lara Arruabarrena Vecino and the Spanish article es:Lara Arruabarrena (look at the first paragraph there).

Also be aware of the fact that the WTA website contains many mistakes and is not to be trusted blindly.

Hi, ancient history I'm afraid :) but I note that you created the BLP on Sophie Lefèvre but that it was moved and the accent deleted from lede first line. Do you mind if I ask, was there any discussion about this before the RM where you attempted to have it moved back? My understanding is that by default a RM should start from status quo? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:39, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gabinho, actually no, Sophie Lefèvre isn't the only one. I went through all the category:French tennis players after I saw what had happened, and found 5 more, they are in a joint RM under Talk:Stephane Huet. Then afterwards I also found Paul Feret. But I believe that that's the lot for all en.wp. Those would be the only 7 BLPs not at their names. Hopefully we can finish this now and have some peace. Hi. When you recently edited Florin Mergea, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Rome 2 and Santiago Ventura (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi

[edit]

Thank you for own quality editing. I noted your recent page move to David Savić, and while I think it'd be common sense, unfortunately a WP:RM is needed so I have put one in (now). FWIW, the several RMs currently in seem to be almost at the end of the "English names" among the 100,000s of BLPs. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:46, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Dennis Blömke requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Unblocked, as per the discussion below. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:01, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a long running edit war that was already dealt with by page protection, with the threat of blocks for anyone who continued it. It gave me no joy to sully your clean block log, but you took part in the edit war after all editors were warned on the talk page.Swarm 18:50, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Swarm: I would be very grateful if you could clarify the reason for the block. As far as I can see the only edits that Gabinho has ever made at CSA Steaua București (football) are these three: [4], [5], and [6]. How does that constitute edit-warring? (And please note that it is necessary to show that this editor has been edit-warring in order to justify a block on this editor.) I am also puzzled by your remark about "all editors were warned on the talk page". It sort of reads as though you mean that you deem an editor to have been warned if there is a message hidden in the middle of an article talk page, even if there is no reason to suppose that the editor in question has ever looked at that talk page, but you can't really mean that, can you? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 01:05, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @JamesBWatson: Hi James. Be happy to clear up any confusion. So, this was a newly-created article, that, since its creation, has been plagued by a good faith content dispute, that has manifested itself via edit warring. The dispute is understandable. Basically, this football team was founded as part of the multi-sports club CSA Steaua București. They eventually separated from the parent club, but continued using the same name—Fotbal Club Steaua București. They claimed to be the same team. The afformentioned parent club took them to court years later, saying that they were unlawfully using their brand, and they were found in court to be illegitimate—in other words, they were retroactively found, by legal technicality, to be a completely different team than the original one. They were forced to change their name to their acronym, FCSB. Following this, CSA Steaua București reactivated their football club. So, we essentially now have two teams that go by the same name, both claiming to be the "real" one. So, naturally, editors are arguing over which Steaua "owns" the history, honors, and legacy. If you look at the article's history, you can see numerous editors edit warring over this singular issue, since the article's creation last month. This was addressed with page protection on October 1. An unequivocal warning was given on the article's talk page by the protecting admin. It's simply not realistic to suggest that this warning could not or would not be seen by editors who look at the talk page. It's not "hidden". There's barely any content on the talk page. Moreover, as you're no doubt aware, "not looking at the talk page" is not a mitigating factor for taking part in an edit war. It's the opposite. At the time of my block, there were three editors continuing the specific, singular, long-running edit war. Gabinho was one of those editors. Let me know if you have any further questions. Swarm 04:51, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Swarm: Sorry, but this block is wrong, and you have not really addressed JamesBWatson's points at all. Those three (2 perfectly innocent looking, and only 1 in the 'honours' dispute) edits do not amount to edit warring, and it is also wrong to consider an individual editor to have been warned if the warning is only on the article talk page. I agree that there has been disruption at this article and that it has been very frustrating, but this really is just an innocent victim here. Considering how little of the block is left to run, I'm going to unblock rather than waste more time arguing about it. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:08, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Swarm: You have made no attempt whatever to answer my question "How does that constitute edit-warring?" I even anticipated the possibility that you might be likely to avoid answering that question and instead give stuff about the general editing history of the article, by saying "And please note that it is necessary to show that this editor has been edit-warring in order to justify a block on this editor". I made a deliberate point of bolding the essential words this editor, and yet you still gave a long account of what the dispute was about and the history of edit-warring by other editors, and did not even mention Gabinho's editing, let alone explaining why three quite different edits, only two of which reverted anything by other editors, constituted edit warring.
You wrote "It's simply not realistic to suggest that this warning could not or would not be seen by editors who look at the talk page". Had you not noticed that I explicitly said "even if there is no reason to suppose that the editor in question has ever looked at that talk page"? Gabinho may have looked at the talk page before editing the article, or he may not: I don't know whether he did, and nor do you. Even if he had started edit-warring (which he didn't) you would have had no right to presume that he had read the message on the article talk page, and you should have warned him as a first step.
The main point of this is that it is not anywhere near remotely reasonable to block an editor for "edit warring" when he has not been edit warring, on the basis that other people have been edit warring and this editor's edits have some similarity to edits by those who have edit-warred. It was obvious to me as soon as I looked at his edits to the article that there had been no edit warring, but rather than unblock immediately I gave you a chance to explain why you thought that this editor had been edit warring. You made no attempt whatever to do so. If Boing! said Zebedee hadn't got there first I would certainly have unblocked once I had read your non-reply to my question. Hello Gabinho, I have noticed that you enjoy rugby and edit player pages and create. Unfortunately I am not as talented as you, so can you help me with the Wikipedia pages of Alexandru Țiglă, Dragoș Ser, Vlad Neculau, Iulian Hartig and the logo for ACS Tomitanii Constanta please. Thanks RomaniaRugbyFan

  • I saw you edit also and create articles. A good start is to read the Wikipedia Guidelines on creating new articles. Also, very important is to source an article created by placing references. You'll get used to it. I will check those articles you recommended and update them. Nice to hear that more and more wikipedians are interested in Rugby Union! Cheers and good luck! Romanian rugby union player articles

[edit]

Hi there, firstly thank you for your edits and contributions to Romanian rugby on Wikipedia. However, having been alerted to a couple of player articles on uncapped players, I just wanted to let you know that unless a player plays internationally for Romania, they aren't notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia unless they pass notability guidelines or pass another section of WP:NRU (for example, playing in a league that is notable under WP:NRU). The Romanian league isn't listed as a notable league under current guidelines, so if a player has only played in the Romanian league and in no other competition or internationally, they do not qualify for an article unless WP:GNG can be passed. If you have any questions or believe that the Romanian league should potentially be added to WP:NRU, please do not hesitate to contact the Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union page where it can be discussed.
