I'm not positive that your grammar correction to this was correct. Crook's taunting of Lennie, zeroing in on his most sensitive fears... is how it was, with a possessive apostrophe. Maybe it should be Crooks' instead, with a trailing apostrophe? I have still not mastered this, so I could be wrong. --Jomegat (talk) 17:09, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- My apologies, I meant to put in the trailing apostrophe since that's how I think it's supposed to be, and that's also how it was written in some other parts of the article. I've added in the apostrophe now, if it is wrong, feel free to correct it. EdoDodo (talk) 17:17, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- No apologies necessary! I was unsure myself, and I was pretty sure it was wrong before you changed it. This book is on my watchlist because it's a frequent vandalism target (especially the section on Curly's wife). I also flag "good" revisions whenever a legitimate change is made. Yours was by no means vandalism, but I just couldn't click the "this is a superb revision" button when I knew I'd be approving grammar that I didn't think was correct (even though it replaced grammar that I also didn't think was correct). I'm glad you went in and fixed it (even the first time), as this is how WB gets better. I'll flag the new rev in a couple of seconds. Thanks again! --Jomegat (talk) 19:27, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, well you're welcome, and good luck with protecting the book :). EdoDodo (talk) 06:39, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Discrepancy between reverts and talk page warnings
A note on your vandalism patrolling style: You seem to always choose the "rollback (VANDAL)" option when reverting unconstructive changes, regardless of whether they are clearly vandalism or not. If it isn't clear, you need to assume good faith or at least not assume bad faith and use one of the other revert options and provide an explanation.
When warning users it seems you are erring too far in the opposite direction. Virtually all of your warnings are level 1, "assume good faith". If the edit was sufficiently damaging, or they have an existing history of problematic edits, it's okay to jump to level 2 "no faith assumption made" or level 3 or higher "bad faith edit". Otherwise it's hard for editors and admins to tell exactly how severe the problems have been without manually examining every edit. These are just suggestions; every revert is different, but you should try to categorize them appropriately. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 18:26, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you for the suggestion, indeed I haven't been paying much attention to which warning and/or revert option I was using. I will take more care to which one I use in future. - EdoDodo talk 18:34, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DaisyDisk. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:13, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

DYK Backlog
Hi EdoDodo, I noticed you're reviewing some DYK entries. There is quite a backlog currently, and I was wondering if you would be willing to review some of the older entries that haven't been addressed (for example, I have one submitted 29 Dec that hasn't been looked at yet). Thanks! -SidewinderX (talk) 15:54, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

AWB
I approved your request for using AWB. Please use the latest version found in http://toolserver.org/~awb/snapshots/ and remember that you should avoid making insignificant or inconsequential edits such as only adding or removing some white space, moving a stub tag, converting some HTML to Unicode, removing underscores from links (unless they are bad links), or something equally trivial. This is because it wastes resources and clogs up watch lists. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:27, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

question on article references section
I have noticed separate Notes and References sections in several articles that have become featured content. Is this the preferred way to reference articles with inline citations under Notes and a separate References section? Okiebradshaw (talk) 19:24, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, generally speaking most articles won't be long enough to require separate sections, just make footnotes for your references and put them in a References section. However, some articles that become fairly length have references that are used throughout, and not just for a specific sentence. In this case footnotes would be inappropriate, as footnotes generally refer to just a sentence or two from then text, so the footnotes are put in a Notes section, and the References that are used for the full article and not just certain parts of it are put into a References section. I hope this makes sense to you and that I have helped you. Happy editing. - EdoDodo talk 17:55, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the response. It was very helpful. Okiebradshaw (talk) 16:51, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Author blanking of article
The article Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival was blanked by its author after being tagged for speedy deletion. You then reverted the blanking, and warned the user about removal of content. It is true that it is normally considered unacceptable to blank a page like this. However, I thought it might help to mention that an exception is made in the case of completely blanking a page to which nobody else has made any significant contribution. This is taken as indicating that the author wants the page deleted, and it can then be tagged for speedy deletion with {{db-blanked}}. Very often new users who don't know how Wikipedia works see an article they have created tagged for deletion, accept that the article should be deleted, and remove the content, thinking that this is deleting it. It is much better in such a case not to bite the newcomer by giving them a warning that they have done something wrong, when they were simply trying to comply with the deletion notice. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:46, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Real sorry, I knew of this type of case but didn't check the history so didn't see that he was the only editor. - EdoDodo talk 11:36, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- It's easily done: I make the same mistake myself sometimes, but I thought there was no harm in drawing your attention to it. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:41, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Re: Halo Reach, release dates
It's long been decided that while retailer info might be great for release dates after the fact, before the game is actually released they are exceptionally unreliable (after all, they're trying to get your money, so posting a release date for preorders works in their interest.) Until there's a non-merchant source, we keep it off the article. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 14:00, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to the English Wikipedia Account Creation Team
Following your reapplication, I have approved your request so welcome to the team. You may now access the tool here. Before you do so, please read the tool's guide thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. You may also want to join #wikipedia-en-accounts on IRC where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension.
Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day (a day being from 0:00 UTC to 23:59 UTC), although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed". However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM.
Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. EditCountBot
So EditCountBot is not currently working then? For all the insignificant things templates and bots currently do, I see no reason why service awards should not update automatically. It really is too bad that the community didn't like the idea, but I suspect that in this instance only those who were against the idea actually voted. kcylsnavS {screech} 13:52, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed, its a pity the bot wasn't accepted, I thought it did a fairly useful job too, but consensus was clear so I withdrew the request. I'm going to edit the user page of the bot now to avoid misleading people who may come to visit it. - EdoDodo talk 13:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

IRC Cloak Request
I confirm that I have requested use of the IRC cloak wikipedia/EdoDodo for my IRC nickname EdoDodo. - EdoDodo talk 12:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! - EdoDodo talk 14:40, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- What does that mean (I'm just trying to learn somethin)? kcylsnavS {screech} 12:43, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well basically an IRC cloak hides your hostname (usually your IP address) and instead gives you an identifier such as the one I am requesting (wikipedia/EdoDodo). This serves a double purpose of both proving that I am the EdoDodo on Wikipedia (otherwise anyone could have the IRC nickname EdoDodo and pretend to be me) as well as hiding my IP address when I'm on IRC. I have to confirm it here so that the people who review my request know that it really was me who requested the cloak, and not somebody who wants to pretend to be me. It's explained a bit better on this page, which also has instructions on how you can request a cloak. - EdoDodo talk 12:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. mono 00:59, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

- Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? User:AlexNewArtBot - New Article Bot
Hi, I have made a new feed for the New Article bot. The bot reads all the new articles for a day and puts suspected appleinc-related articles into User:AlexNewArtBot/appleincSearchResult, the articles are suppose to be manually put into the portal page and/or removed if irrelevant. Or whatever you want to do with them.
The list of rules are in User:AlexNewArtBot/appleinc, there is also the log on the User:AlexNewArtBot/appleincLog explaining the rules that sent an article to the search results (the log is cleared every day, so try to look into the history of the log). Aircom International
Hi I reverted your removal of the no: iw at AIRCOM International, it is clearly the same company eventhough the dates doesn't match. For example they link to the same official site. Profoss (talk) 15:04, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, fair enough. It still seems odd though that the Norwegian article has the name of the company un-capitalized, while ours is capitalized, and claims it was established in a different year. - EdoDodo talk 15:08, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Also, the Norwegian article claims that the company has offices in 18 countries, while the English one says 16. I realize that this could be because of an expansion, but it still means that one of the two articles is wrong. You are right, however, that it would be extremely strange to have two companies operating in the same sector, of similar size, and with similar names, so I'm going to leave the interwiki link in. - EdoDodo talk 15:16, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Okay, it seems that the date on the Norwegian article was wrong, I've fixed and sourced it. As well as that most sources have the name capitalized (AIRCOM International), whilst the Norwegian article has it un-capitalized (Aircom Internation). This could cause some confusion, so I would appreciate it if you could move it (I'm not autoconfirmed there, so can't do it). Thanks for warning me of my mistake, by the way. - EdoDodo talk 15:28, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

(And also if you feel Classic book now qualifies for a higher-rating please change any of its present ratings accordingly.) Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 15:36, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

I cannot give you more detailed feedback on how you could further improve the article because I do not know enough about the subject, if you are interested in doing more work on the article, perhaps you could ask for a peer review to get more suggestions. - EdoDodo talk 16:12, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look at it, am very new to Wikipedia & appreciate all the help. I think I'll let Cb sit for a while and come back to it with a fresh eye before I ask for peer review. Again, thank you. Shearonink (talk) 16:15, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! —mono 23:40, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm... I made the edit but it seemed to completely mess up formatting ([1]) so I reverted it. When you have an edit that doesn't break all the formatting leave me another message and I'll be happy to make it. Remember that you can always test things in User:Mono/Editnotice and User talk:Mono/Editnotice to make sure they work. - EdoDodo talk 06:10, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
- Here's some new code that works: I tried it!
