Ezo

[edit]

You're the named deletion author at "12:28, May 6, 2008 East718 (talk | contribs) deleted "File:Flag of the Republic of Ezo.svg" ‎ (CSD I8: Image exists on the Commons"-I can't find it and the image has been removed from the article. Help? Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:27, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image was created and uploaded to Wikipedia by User:Zscout370 on 8 January 2008.
The image was imported to Commons by another user on 2 May 2008.
The image was deleted on Commons by Zscout370 (the original author) on 26 July 2009. The deletion summary is as follows:
02:10, 26 July 2009 Zscout370 (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "File:Flag of the Republic of Ezo.svg" ‎ (Author request: yall are right, this is a fantasy flag, based on information I found in Japan)
Apparently, it's not a real flag. If you have an authentic flag, please feel free to upload it. Lara 15:47, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotect

[edit]
Can you please unblock temporary the template Country data Mexico?,
because it's necessary to update some flags to svg and fix some dates. Thank You. --TownDownHow's going? 19:40, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please post back here when you're done so that protection can be replaced. Lara 00:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. But it was blocked again when I'm updating images formats and expanding. --TownDownHow's going? 20:09, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop forum-shopping. I have already told you the correct process here to ensure integrity of this high-use, high-risk template: put a {{editprotected}} request onto Template talk:Country data Mexico along with your suggested changes, and an administrator will look at the request. Unprotecting the template for you to make experimental edits is not appropriate. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 20:15, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What are the experimental edits? And unlocking a template temporarily isn't a big risk. Just because we tag every template with "high risk template" doesn't make it true. Lara 18:23, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, experimental edits?, I was updating flags according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (diagrams and maps), also some dates are completely wrong and these date have been used since time ago and I was trying to fix it without damage, now I already put a {{editprotected}} request onto Template talk:Country data Mexico and nothing happen, that's why I request unblock this template to the admin who blocked it here, but kindly Lara unblocked it but after a few seconds you just block it again!, I wasn't making "experimental edits" or "vandalizing". --TownDownHow's going? 04:09, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I made the requested changes to this "high risk" template that saw precisely one vandal edit in its almost year of existence before being protected. And they say adminship isn't a big deal... clearly that was a big deal. Lara 05:21, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. Finally all those old flags and dates in this template have been fixed and updated. --TownDownHow's going? 05:42, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's not vandalism that is the problem here. The problem is making changes that break some of the 15,000 pages that use this template, which has just happened. I shall repair the damage in the next 24 hours or so. In this case, adminship isn't the big deal; it's the knowledge of how these templates work that is necessary. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 05:32, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
15,000 pages??, what??, I checked all old flags used here and pages, that's why I needed to change this template, and the "damage" you said won't happen, I have been checking pages and flags since 2 days. --TownDownHow's going? 05:39, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First, this template was built incorrectly, and as professional mexican I can't allow this. And the articles you said are not 15,000 pages.--TownDownHow's going? 06:27, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What pages are broken? Show me one, please. Thanks. Lara 05:53, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After your edit (but before my partial revert), any page that used the 1881, 1899, or 1917 variants (such as the transclusion of {{flag|Mexico|1899}} in this edit, would have displayed the current (2009) flag instead, since those variants were removed. It would be extremely difficult to find the specific transclusions of Template:Country data Mexico that needed updating (such as the change from "1899" to "1893" in that diff) unless the older (deprecated) variants still existed during a "transition period" of sorts. In that case, it is easy to look at the image links for File:Flag of Mexico (1899).png and only edit that much, much smaller set of pages. But once the deprecated variants are removed, the only way to find them is examine all transclusions of the template, which are about 15,000 pages at the moment. The task is three orders of magnitude easier by retaining the deprecated variants for a short period, in order to update all the pages that need it. The bottom line is that the high-use flag templates are fully protected not necessarily for vandalism reasons, but because they are somewhat intricate templates with large consequences when changes are made. You took TownDown's suggestion at face value without understanding those consequences. The {{editprotected}} mechanism is (among other things) a safeguard against hastily made edits that break widely used templates. That is why I asked TownDown to use it—to make sure that his/her edits were reviewed properly by an experienced set of eyes that understand how these flag templates work. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 08:30, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You forgot 1867 variant/label, this change was an urgent update because {{flag|Mexico|1899}} or File:Flag of Mexico (1899).png were 100% incorrect, I don't know since when was like this, but it was necessary to make a big change finally and unblock this template was necessary and all you both did, was necessary. I just want to thank you — Jennavecia (talk · contribs) and Andrwsc (talk · contribs). I will try to watch all these articles because the last incorrect template was embarrassment for me.--TownDownHow's going? 15:51, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining, Andrwsc, and for providing an example. I'll be more cautious in the future. Apologies for causing you extra work, but good that the template is accurate now. Thanks for pointing out the issues, TownDown. Lara 19:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(Why this discussion is on East718's talk page is beyond me, but anyway...)The reason "nothing happen" is that you still have not put {{editprotected}} on that talk page, which is why none of the administrators who monitor Category:Wikipedia protected edit requests can see your request. However, I see that you are proposing to remove some of the existing variant labels, so those articles that use them must be updated first. I will attend to this when I have some time tomorrow. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 05:22, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Restoration request for Image:Noodles & Company Logo.svg

[edit]

The file Image:Noodles & Company Logo.svg was speedily deleted on 11 Jan 2008 for the reason of "[b]ad justification given for fair use and the uploader was notified more than 48 hours ago". Corporate logos as used for articles about the company generally have all-but-boilerplate fair use rationales, so it should be straightforward to fix this by adding a fair-use rationale for its use in the article about the company. Please restore the image and I'll add the rationale. — VulcanOfWalden (talk) 05:20, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Nostalin.png

[edit]
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Nostalin.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The image was uploaded by User:718 Bot. AOL disk collecting

[edit]

The files File:AOL Collectible Bugs Bunny CD.jpg and File:Various AOL Floppies with packaging removed.jpg were delinked in this edit, removing the entire section and never restored. The files were then deleted for not being linked to an article. Could they be restored? RP9 (talk) 14:33, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI—[1][2][3]--Gmaxwell (talk) 09:28, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't want you to be unaware of this. —Gmaxwell (talk) 10:39, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Where was consensus gained for that particular change? Lara 17:43, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's not entirely clear to me what you're asking. Cheers. --Gmaxwell (talk) 20:25, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're alerting east (and I when you consider I'm monitoring his page while he's away) of changes, which you and Xeno (and maybe others) are reverting. The "co-founder" change this editor is making was agreed upon on Talk:Jimmy Wales some months ago. Thus, if there is not a new discussion regarding the wording which is to accompany Jimmy's name around the project, I'd be interested in knowing your purpose for linking these edits to east. In fact, let's just go with that as the question instead, because I think you already answered the first question I asked when you didn't answer it. So, what were you hoping for east to do in this situation? Lara 22:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
According to the block log, roughly a year ago Mr. Abercrombie was blocked by East718 for a duration of one year. This block expired recently and Mr. Abercrombie began editing in what I considered to be a similar fashion to the manner which caused him to be blocked. Since East718 is, presumably as he placed the last block, aware of whatever background exists I expected that he would want to be informed about the recent activity. At the time I left my initial message I expected that East718 may observe Mr. Abercrombie actions and intervene if he believed intervention was required.
When Mr. Abercrombie's editing in the previously problematic subject areas continued I brought the matter to AN/I. I left East718 a note pointing to the AN/I thread so that he would be aware of any ongoing discussion. I'm sorry that my message was insufficiently clear, I hope that it would have been more clear to East718 himself.
As far as the substance of the edits, the edits in question are not to the Jimmy Wales article. These are edits being made to articles which mention Mr. Wales in passing which made no mention of "founder" vs "co-founder". There was no particular cause or gain in making that distinction in these locations, as evidence by the long standing text in these locations. Had these been changes from "sole founder" to "co-founder" I most likely would have either made no edit or I may have re-factored the text to make no mention as none was required. Since the edits appeared to be a possible continuation of the previous disruptive behavior I still would have notified East718. Even assuming a most-kind interpretation of Mr. Abercrombie's contribution history it seems unlikely that we should take his edits as evidence that these mentions of Mr. Wales required any clarification as to his precise role in the development of Wikipedia. Even so, I was not about to engage in an edit war. I reverted the changes with that hope that Mr. Abercrombie decision to continue making these edits was only a momentary lapse in judgment and not evidence that he intended to continue his past disruptive behavior. When he continued I brought it to the attention of a wider audience at AN/I.
Do you have any further questions regarding my actions? —Gmaxwell (talk) 00:25, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Abercrombie's actions are in line with the consensus reached on Talk:Jimmy Wales regarding the text that accompanies his name around the project. Personally, I don't have a problem with either version. However, "co-founder of Wikipedia" is what the consensus was, and what all pages on the project read at one point. I am certain of this, as I went to each instance of his name and ensured it. That said, I think it would be unfortunate for the editor to be reblocked or otherwise bothered for upholding a consensus. Your assistance please...

[edit]

You deleted File:Mohammad Golab Mangal, Laghman Province, Afghanistan.jpg. I uploaded a half dozen or so similar images that I found in a document from the "nps.edu". I claimed fair use on them. But someone pointed out something I hadn't realized. "Nps.edu" is the "Naval postgraduate school". All the students and staff are military officers. So all those images were PD.

Could you please check to see if the source URL for this image was from the "nps.edu"? If it is would that be sufficient for you to feel confident you would be authorized to restore it?

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 22:57, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
