Berwyn article

Am I right in thinking it's not that close to Cadair Berwyn? I though that might be worth adding. Llangollen is a lovely area but haven't been there for years! Blythwood (talk) 21:07, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

@Blythwood: You are indeed correct. The OS map places Cadair Berwyn about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) to the south-west of Berwyn, itself. Regards, EP111 (talk) 21:12, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
Great, thought that was worth clarifying. Put it on the article now with a link & citation. Blythwood (talk) 21:31, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

British Rail Classes 445 and 446

Why are you using |art-sections= for the number of cars in a non-articulated EMU? I also noticed this at Class 311. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:50, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

@Redrose64: For |art-sections=, the documentation for Template:Infobox train states: The number of coaches/power vehicles formed into an articulated trainset.

See the definition of articulated:

  • 2. having a joint or joints; jointed.
  • 3. (of a vehicle) built in sections that are hinged or otherwise connected so as to allow flexibility of movement.

Therefore, as a trainset, the EMUs are definitely articulated. I expect articulated may be interpreted as "two sections sharing a common axle or bogie"? If so, that's not what the template or the definition specifies. Regards, EP111 (talk) 09:45, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

In railway terms, an articulated train (unit, coach) has two bodies sharing a common bogie - this might have two pivots, one for each coach, or a central pivot with one coach resting on that, and the other coach resting on a pivot mounted on the first coach, directly above the bogie pivot. Post-1945 examples in the UK include Class 370 and Class 373 but few others, although most of the modern British tram systems (including Manchester, Sheffield and Blackpool) use articulated trams.
If there are twice as many bogies as coach bodies (each coach has its own bogies), it's not articulated.
If there is more than one body, and the number of bogies is one greater than the number of bodies, it is probably articulated.
Some books that may help to clarify matters:
Harris (1995) has quite a bit on articulated coaches through most of the book - the LNER had many more articulated coaches than all of the others put together; there's a good photo and drawing of an articulation bogie on p. 18.
See also Template talk:Infobox train/Archive 1#art-sections. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:54, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
@Redrose64: Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I'd be grateful if you could update the template documentation to reflect this, and make this clearer for myself and others, preferably with articulated train linked? I expect that the link would prove to be very useful in the documentation. Regards, EP111 (talk) 17:18, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Your work in Saint-Lô's article

Hi, I'm a French journalist working in Saint-Lô and I noticed that you made a great work about my town's Wikipedia's page during last autumn.

Liverpool to Wigan Line

Thanks for the great edit EP111 - the sun wasn't shining the day I took a similar shot at WNW P6 ! Nice to see a positive edit rather than the negative ones I get from a certain person who claims the flower of Lancashire... Now all we have to do is update the new franchisee, Arriva Trains North, who have decide to brand themselves 'Northern' - confusing, ain't it ?! Cheers Paul Gaskell (talk) 16:14, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Hicoria, Florida

The article Hicoria, Florida has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thanks for your hard work on that long list of Liverpool docks articles. They look so much better now. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:26, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
@Andy Dingley: Cheers, Andy! I've still got a bit more to add to the infoboxes from "Baines, Thomas (1859). Liverpool in 1859.", which seems to be a very good source; Part II, especially. It's not half as long a list, compared to some of the things I've done. Regards, EP111 (talk) 16:32, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I was wondering what you'd found as sources. I found them surprisingly scarce when I was looking - although I guess I could always go back there and go to the big library. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:41, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Well, I've got a few books on the docks due in the next few days, so I'll see what they offer with regard to everything but everybody's favourite. One which isn't on my list, though, is Lancashire: Liverpool and the South West. ISBN 9780300109108. It's an 800-page tome, which I'm fairly certain will give some detail on the architecture of Liverpool's docks. EP111 (talk) 16:56, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Clarence Dock

Hi. I noticed you edited this page and great. I just want to know why you rewrote who supplied the source of the Echo link in May? As it was me that added the link? Babydoll9799 (talk) 15:13, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

The reference wasn't fully formatted, only provided as a titled link, and not helpful for future archiving in order to keep the reference alive (it needs at least the date, and should preferably use one of the cite templates which also allows the archiveurl= and archivedate= parameters, as I've formatted it). As no date was given in the original reference, I checked the link was working and provided the date I saw the article at that link. If you'd like to see how it was before I reformatted it, see this revision. Regards, EP111 (talk) 15:29, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:40, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:54, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Unnecessary DEFAULTSORT

Hi, re this edit: category sorting has been case-insensitive since March 2011, so the old convention of capitalising the first letter of every word hasn't been necessary for almost six years now. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:32, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

Hi EP111, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Juliancolton | Talk 16:08, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

@Juliancolton: Thanks for that, Julian. I don't have any interest in gathering extra user rights. However, if it's more useful for everyone else not to have to keep on patrolling me, then I gladly accept. Regards, EP111 (talk) 16:15, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.
