I have reverted your edit of Atlantic Bank. Please don't use Wikipedia to promote any kind of business or services; such usage is expressly prohibited by the Wikipedia policies. (And anyway, your article would belong to Atlantic Bank (Belize).) - Mike Rosoft (talk) 17:23, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Atlantic Bank (Belize)

[edit]

Hello Dunga2015,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Atlantic Bank (Belize) for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 15:35, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Writing about your employer

[edit]

Hello Dunga2015, I'm Huon, your Co-op mentor. In your profile you said you wanted to learn how to write about your employer. That's a rather difficult task due to the conflict of interest inherent in writing about an organization you are affiliated with.

I'd suggest you use the Article Wizard to write a draft instead of creating a live article. Standards for drafts are somewhat relaxed compared to live articles because they're considered work in progress. When it's ready, you can submit the draft for a review by an experienced editor who will either accept the draft and turn it into a live article, or provide feedback on what the draft's problems are.

There are, however, a couple of issues you should be aware of before writing a draft. First of all, you should disclose that you work for the company to compliy with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. A note on your user page that says something along the lines of "I work for Atlantic Bank and edit Wikipedia as part of my job" will do. Secondly, the page you wrote was copy-pasted from the bank's "about us" page in violation of copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and copyright violations are deleted on sight (even in drafts). Even if their "about us" page were not copyrighted, it obviously was written for a purpose entirely different from an encyclopedia article's, and its tone was entirely unsuitable for Wikipedia.

Rather than copy-pasting the bank's website, you should write a new draft that summarizes, in your own words, what reliable published sources such as newspapers or reputable magazines have reported about the bank, and you should cite the sources so our readers can verify that the summary is accurate. Hard facts, such as the total assets, revenues or profits, will be much more useful than vague claims about "a variety of banking services" - it's a bank, so that's something of a given, isn't it? You should aim for a neutral point of view and write without embellishment; even Atlantic Bank's competitors shouldn't be able to take issue with the article.

If you need more specific help, please don't hesitate to ask. Huon (talk) 23:23, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
