Beekeeper

[edit]

G'day Dublinblue, You're quite welcome to use the beekeeper userbox. I made it so that other beekeepers could identify themselves. Cheers, Sting_au Talk 11:04, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of County Dublin Beekeepers' Association

[edit]

I have nominated County Dublin Beekeepers' Association, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/County Dublin Beekeepers' Association. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. first movable frame beehive?

[edit]

The claim in this article that he designed the first practical movable-frame beehive is disputed at best and I feel it should be edited to say 'claimed' or something, but given the tone of the debate on this page I'll leave it to you lot to fight it out. Eva Crane's World history of bees and beekeeping is an excellent authority on this point. Dublinblue (Simon in Dublin) (talk) 22:55, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly it is: "and designed the first successful movable-frame beehive" - the word "successful" is the essence. The attempts to make movable frame was somewhat earlier. The investigators problem was the mixing bee preferred distance between combs vs. distance between side frames and and hive walls. Even Eva Crane does not set the fact that the distance between combs is 2 times the minimal beespace (2*1/4 of inch). This is what nobody set it until now - and it should be delivered from bee size body.
The distance between combs are variable anyway and depends what the bees after first build-up do in ther comb - for honey they extent the dip of the cells. For brood they keep original space between combs. This is the example how people follow each other mistakes not paying attention to reality.
Existing authorities never free me from independent and critical thinking. Ms. Eva Crane, this or other way forgot, or some historical facts were not known for her.
You have question I will attempt to answer to you. The story of so call "beespace" I investigated on original documents. Cleaghyre (talk) 17:02, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

Until this year, Wikipedia has largely relied upon personal appeals from founder Jimmy Wales to drive our annual fundraising efforts. Now we seek to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me, either over the phone, by Skype, by facebook, by email, or any means you like. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project and we'll set up a good time to discuss further.

Thank you,

Victor Grigas
