Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Downtown Marketing Intern, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! —C.Fred (talk) 22:09, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.
If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:21, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much for all of this information, {{C.Fred}}. I was hoping that you could help me a bit going forward. I am new to the Wikipedia editing world and find it all very confusing! I definitely understand and agree with your comments that the tone of my edits was too promotional. However, much of the information on the page is very outdated and the company has taken on many new projects that are not mentioned. I have made a variety of edits to the information i originally posted and think that it is more in line with Wikipedia standards but would greatly appreciate it if you would look over it to edit it. If you are willing to do this please let me know how I should go about sending it to you. I also am a bit confused with how to get unblocked (it is just me using this account but I am affiliated with Downtown Music Publishing) so if you have any advice in that category that would be very helpful as well. Thank you so much for your time. Downtown Marketing Intern (talk) 21:41, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

- Have you also reviewed the policies on copyright? Do you want to comment on that regarding your previous edits? If you could give us a (very short) summary of how you intend to contribute in light of your reading about best practices for people with a conflict of interest, that would also help; I'm not asking you to write an essay or anything, but unfortunately it's rather common that people say they now understand the guidelines but really don't. This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I was asked for further details on why I should be unblocked by user Huon but cannot seem to contact him directly since I am currently blocked. Below I have summarized my reasons for requesting to be unblocked.
I have now read through the copyright page and realize that I have made some violations, including using unauthorized logo usage and copy from external websites, which I will not do that again. As far as using wording similar to that from the Downtown Music Publishing website that explain their products, I have been granted permission from the company to use this language. Is there an official way that I should show you that I have this permission?
For my future contributions, I will be adjusting the tone from promotional to factual to incorporate the conflict of interest issue. Another way I plan to address this is to have an administrator read over my proposed edits before submitting them officially. I am looking to make these edits for the better of the Wikipedia community as much of the information on the current page is outdated and/or inaccurate.
Additionally, I am the only person using this account, and have requested a username change to make that more clear. Though this is a project I am working on during my internship (unpaid, and for credit only) with the company, I am not being paid for my contributions. Is there anything I need to say for disclosure concerning that and where should I do so?
The errors I made occured because I was unaware of all of Wikipedia’s guidelines. I am grateful to all of those like yourself who have helped me to learn about the resources available to better understand the community guidelines. Any further advice you have is appreciated and please let me know if you have any questions.
As for next steps, please let me know what needs to be done to have my account unblocked and get my edits approved. Thank you to anyone who can offer assistance! Downtown Marketing Intern (talk) 20:56, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- Regarding the permission from the company, for the text to be usable on Wikipedia, the company would need to grant everybody - not just you or just Wikipedia - permission to re-use and modify that text for any purpose, including commercial purposes; otherwise it's incompatible with Wikipedia's Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license. And we'd need evidence of that permission - say, a tag on the relevant page of their website that says its content is released under CC BY-SA 3.0. Usually it's both easier and better to summarize in our own words what independent sources such as reviews published in reputable trade magazines report than to bother with licensing a company's own website, which would likely need to be heavily modified anyway since it's written for other purposes than as an encyclopedia article.
