Possible plagerism on article for Benjamin Huntington

Hi. I wondered if there were certain steps I should take when I run across an article that has been taken directly from another source without any references being cited. In the article for Benjamin Huntington it was apparent that an editor had taken sentences from an uncited source. I put the information on the talk page of the article as an explanation as to why I changed the article so much. I was trying to practice the idea of "be bold when editing". Need some help re moving an image

Hi. In the past you were kind enough to help me improve my editing, and I wanted to ask for your help again with something if you do not mind. For the article on John Emory Andus I added information and wanted to move the image that was already there ("The mausoleum of John Andrus") so the page layout would look better because after I added info there is a large space at bottom of page. I cannot figure out how to move the image. Can you please explain this to me and let me know if I am allowed to do this. Thank you!--BuzyBody (talk) 17:41, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Of course you are allowed to move it! Instead of explaining how to move it, I just did it so you can look at the 'history' and copy what I did. I did two edits. The first one I added a "left" justification. That moved the picture to the left side of the article. The second edit (dido) I moved further up the screen so that it looked better. Question re Database Reports

I'm not too familiar. I think people create these reports for all types of reasons. I don't think there is any sort of "central command" so to speak, but User talk:MZMcBride seems to help create a lot of them. This page seems to just be an index for gathering different reports about Wikipedia for whatever reason. If you want to learn more, you could go to the talk page and ask. Hallo. I (obviously!) agree with you that the list of flags articles all need to be worked on, but I suspect that the example table (that uses invented details) that you've added in the discussion at WT:NOT, will not help matters, due to the falsity of the information. I'd strongly recommend removing that table, and simply pointing to an existing article. (Or of course, researching the correct details! Which everyone seems to be avoiding :/ So far at least!) One thing I was trying to do was to add the "list of people from Chicago" to the entry for Ralph Pearson, but it claimed that there was no such page, but there, although maybe it is not named exactly as such. I cleaned up the entry for you. It is good to go. If you are interested in Ralph Pearson and would like to contribute, I see two things that need to be added. The first would be a public domain picture of him. You could contact him directly or at UC Santa Barbara and ask for one. Make sure to ask for express permission to make the picture public domain. If he wants to copyright protect it, that is fine, but there is more work to be done. If you get one, I can help you put it up on Wikipedia.
The second thing would be a reliable source that says he was born in Chicago. This could take some detective work. Make sure to read Wikipedia:Reliable sources so you know which sources are accepted. The guidelines on when to delete redirects are at WP:REDIRECT#When should we delete a redirect?. Unless they are actively harmful or misleading, they are usually kept, because they are cheap in terms of space taken up. The reason why WP:CSD#R3 is restricted to recently created redirects is that with a long-standing redirect there is no way of knowing whether there are links to it from outside Wikipedia, which would go dead if it was deleted. How to create Wiki page

Hi I want to know how can i create a wiki page like all other pages about people in wiki. I have created a page but it's view is not the same as other wikipages. I would love to help you out. We can start with some basics. If you look at the upper right of any Wikipedia page, there should be a "talk" or "message waiting" button. This is your talk page. Compromise

Hi I appreciate your reaching out for a compromise. It seems the only way to resolve it will be to start an RfC due to other parties who have taken a strong position in opposition (more than one user). If you agree, would you be interested in helping craft an RfC, before we post it I think at least two people should look at it to ensure there is neutrality. It's on my user space you are free to make changes. Zimmerman photograph RfC draft. It follows the wording and format of Wikipedia:Rfc#Example. Looks good. Maybe wait a few days for the current debate to run its course. Also, I'm wondering if we should include some reference to the fact that there aren't any better fair use photos available. Inappropriate remarks

I find your comment on the talk page for the List of New religious movements [[2]] grossly inappropriate. If you had bothered to look at my user page, or my request for peer review [[3]], you would have found out that I am completely open about my position regarding Landmark, as a satisfied customer who took several of their courses between eleven and seven years ago. This no more puts me in a conflict of interest than would an editor on the Apple page who had bought an Apple computer at some time. DaveApter (talk) 09:00, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Excellent! Well that is a place we can start. (Please tell me if this is too basic) Each Wikipedia editor has a user page. This is created for you when you create a log in name. Your user page is User:Sanningshalten, it is waiting for you to add content (only if you like). Each user page has a "talk" page associated with it. Your talk page is User talk:Sanningshalten. You are currently looking at my talk page. So if any editor on Wikipedia wants to get in touch with me, about any issue, they know to come here and leave a message to get my attention. When someone posts something on your talk page, that means they want to talk to you. The best thing to do is answer them on your talk page. Like I am doing now. If you ask me a question on my talk page, and I answer on your talk page, and then you reply on my talk page....well, you can see how that would get annoying for everyone and make the conversation hard to follow. So we try to keep any single conversation on a single talk page. Either yours or mine. Wikipedia articles also have this feature, but that talk page is just for conversations about editing that particular article. When you get a new message on your talk page, you will see a number 1 in the upper right hand corner where there should currently be a gray 0. You can click on that from anywhere on Wikipedia and it will take you to your own talk page. So lets give it a try. I will leave you a message on your talk page and we can continue the conversation there. (and again, tell me if this is too basic. Ya, I am watching the page and saw your request. It's hard to get myself interested enough to come back a third time to help with minor edits. This time you indicated that there would be more after this round. I don't mind helping, but I prefer to do such things in one sweep when I am interested enough to help out. I like to help on the Biography notice boards because I love reading new biographies I never would have found on my own. But that interest wears off when I've read one biography more than few times. I assume your strategy was to ask for small incremental changes that were more likely to get done because they were asking less of editors. Well, if I'm the only editor making the change, one fell swoop is preferable. Again, I don't mind, but if I'm going to revisit that biography, I'd prefer to get a sense of accomplishment out of it (e.g., a sense that my editing there is done). Hello again! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you about this; I've been working with some folks in Marchick's office to get a good sense of what is still inaccurate with this article. You're absolutely right about my motivations for posting incremental changes—I was hoping that this would make it easier for editors to address problems, rather than posting a whole laundry list in one go. If you'd rather look at the changes that remain in one fell swoop, though, that certainly is OK with me.

Salem

Hi I appreciate your 'clean-up' of Salem article re Phineas (which has significantly changed the town in a way that will show its effect for years to come). A concern I have is that the change is not accurate. Backes did say that they could place Phineas in a sanctuary , but that never happened as the city would not allow it. Is there a way you might choose change the wording of that sentence? I like your phrase "The case is ongoing." Since Phineas was stolen from the place the city was keeping him before last week's hearing, should that be added or is the info irrelevant until his body is found? Thanks! I agreed that the sentence wasn't clear about the offer not being accepted. I added that info, so it should be more clear now. As for the missing pup detail, I think that is getting too much into WP:NOTNEWS. I know some of the editors of this page are eager to write about the details of this case, but we need to stick to the core details that are generating the coverage. Once the dust has settled, we can look back and see if a more detailed coverage is warranted. For now though, it is important that Wikipedia try not to give the case WP:Undue weight that might paint those involved with the case unfavorably. If it turns out this disappearance is the final chapter (e.g., he was whisked away to a no-kill shelter), then it might make sense to add it. But if it turns out to be just another back and forth for custody, then it's not all that notable. --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 16:32, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

It appears Phinnias has gotten clemency from the governor (lol) or something, but he is to be spared. Still missing tho. Any chance you'd stop by and put some sort of ribbon on this? Question regarding Almanac Section on Thomas Cooper (representative) and William B. Cooper

Hi, I was editing the article for Thomas Cooper (representative) and noticed an almanac section on his article that includes several charts. There is a similar section on William B Cooper'S article (his brother). Would you please let me know if this should be there and if so, if I need to make any changes to it? Ya, those are over kill. The basic information of the offices he's held should be in the info box. Best not to just delete it, but better to summarize it and add it to the info box. See Hillary Rodham Clinton for an example. --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 07:28, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, I will work on those articles as you suggested. I also have a question re LinkedIn and Project VoteSmart as reliable sources. Are these considered reliable? For LinkedIn see WP:SELFSOURCE. It should only be used for biographical information about the individual, and only if we know it was self published by the individual we are referencing with it. Although, it is always preferred to find a more reliable source for this biographical information, but not neccessay. Any other info cited from linkedin should be deleted. As for Vote Smart, that appears to be a wiki project which falls under WP:USERGENERATED. If this is correct, follow through to find their sources, but never cite Vote Smart directly, except if talking about them. Dkriegls (talk to me!) 18:28, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
