Copyediting help

Hi Diannaa,

I'm new to this and saw that you're available to look over copyediting for noobs - can you please have a look at Ys (series), esp. the Common Elements: plot & gameplay which I've worked on. This seems radically similar to Ys 1, although it's older, so I'm not really sure which pages is plagiarising which...

Thanks, Craig — Preceding unsigned comment added by Craigarian (talkcontribs) 11:57, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Looking at the article histories, it looks like the same person added the content to both articles. Attribution should still be given. Material from Ys (series) was copied to Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished. Copy edit work looks good so far. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:16, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Problematic IP user (Part 2)

Hello, this time he's using Special:Contributions/75.159.118.134, as was previously discussed in your Archive 32.Hoops gza (talk) 21:16, 1 May 2014 (UTC) Well, he's been blocked now, though only for 31 hours. You may wish to look at those three IPs again to see if you deem an extended block necessary. There is no doubt by now that it is either the same person on all three, or people working together to subtly ruin part of Wikipedia.Hoops gza (talk) 21:19, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

It's probably just one guy; though Edmonton and Grande Prairie are 5 hrs apart by car, people often travel to and fro for work. I can see why a 31-hr block was chosen, as it's the first block for that particular IP. The block just wore off for 206.75.168.247, which is in Edmonton. I already have this in my calendar, and will help you monitor the situation. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:50, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

When this occurs again, does it make more sense to report this particular issue with the three IPs to you, or to take it to WP:AIV? I do not know what you mean when you refer to your calendar.Hoops gza (talk) 21:57, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

I've started keeping a record of problematic IPs and users that I want to follow up on, and putting them in Google Calendar, which then sends me an email reminder and then I check for edits. This IP which was blocked for 31 hours will need to be checked Friday evening. It's okay to post here or if I don't seem to be around AIV will also work. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:03, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Please block 75.159.118.134 (again).Hoops gza (talk) 18:36, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! However, I must point out that this IP looks like long-term abuse by this point. Its previous block in February (for the same types of edits) was for 3 months.Hoops gza (talk) 03:12, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I had not noticed the previous block logs, i am kinda tired. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:30, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Question

Hello,

I have a question for you. Are there supposed to be time slots for the syndicated shows in TV station articles? I thought they weren't supposed to be there, but there is an IP address that likes to keep adding them, especially to the KRNV-DT article. I am pretty sure that it is the same user doing all of that editing, but it shows up under different IP addresses each day. I just wanted your opinion. I am looking forward to hearing what you think about them.

Thanks, Corkythehornetfan(talk) 22:39, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. Sorry, I don't know the answer for sure, but I think we don't include show times. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:52, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay. Any suggestions on who I should ask that would know more about it? Corkythehornetfan(talk) 23:01, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
You might try asking User:User:Mrschimpf, who seems to be an active user editing in this field. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:10, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks!

Confusion

Hi Diannaa. I noticed you mentioned the phrase "anti-Hitler propaganda" on Kierzeks talk page regarding the recent discussion about the sexual relationship between Hitler and Eva, I am sure you remember? The thing is, I once created an article regarding "anti-Nazi propaganda" since there is an article for Nazi-propaganda (anti-Hitler and anti-Nazi propaganda should be regarded as the same). However, within a few hours of creation, the article was nominated for deletion. I took part in a heated discussion on the articles entry page, and was completely overruled. It was apparently concluded that "no such thing as anti-Hitler propaganda exist". I am, therefore, confused as to why you can use it to denounce information or use it as a counter-argument in a discussion, if Wikipedia has concluded that "no such thing exist". Jonas Vinther (talk) 09:37, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

It was user:Kierzek who used the phrase "anti-Hitler propaganda", quoting Kershaw. No one at the deletion discussion said that anti-Nazi propaganda does not exist. The people who !voted to deleted the article said that the subject matter was not adequately covered in reliable sources to qualify for an article. And perhaps they were right, as so far all we have is one example of the use of the term by Kershaw, not extensive scholarly discussion. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:14, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
So sorry. Jonas Vinther (talk) 15:36, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes, Diannaa quotes things correctly; I did not vote on that article, but I agree with the final conclusion reached. Kierzek (talk) 20:33, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Help

I have a very annoying problem: As you can see I have added a WikiTable and episode list on Hitler's Warriors article, but the table wont stay in the "Episodes" section and I don't know why? Its added under the "Episodes" section, but it will only be at the bottom of the page, much to my irritation. If you can fix this problem, please do so. Thank you. Jonas Vinther (talk) 17:34, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so much, how did you do it? I tried for about 20 minutes! Jonas Vinther (talk) 18:06, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Just look at the diff to see what I did. How I figured out what to do was I compared your table to a functional example (in this case, The Simpsons (season 2) ) and made changes based on what I discovered there. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:12, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Ahh, okay. I felt I indeed did compare it to other WikiTable's, but did not have any effect. Weird. Jonas Vinther (talk) 18:20, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Friend, I have the same problem again, this time on Soviet Storm: World War II in the East. I completely copied the frame from the other articles, but it keeps showing it wrong, can you spot the error? Jonas Vinther (talk) 23:05, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
What you have here is a set of templates wrapped in a table. You have to close the table: |} . Each table is also wrapped in an onlyinclude tag. You have to close that off: </onlyinclude> . -- Diannaa (talk) 23:33, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Ahh, okay thanks, I get it now. Jonas Vinther (talk) 00:11, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Question

Do stub articles get deleted over time? Jonas Vinther (talk) 23:19, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

No. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:23, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Jonas Vinther (talk) 23:24, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
@Jonas Vinther: Sorry to be so brief before; I was in the middle of something. Some articles qualify for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion criteria are listed at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion (for articles, criteria G1 through G13 and A1 through A11). Articles can also be deleted via a "prod", which is short for Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, which is a process for articles that pretty obviously need to be deleted but don't qualify for speedy deletion. The third way articles can be deleted is via a deletion discussion, WP:AFD. Regardless of the deletion type, the creator of the article should be notified of the deletion nomination. It's also a good idea to watch-list any articles of interest to be sure you are aware of any developments. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:39, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
No problem. Thank you so much, friend. I think I get it now. It's just, I've created a few stubs, that I don't know enough about to create a full-length article, which I hope other editors will write on. And I remember seeing a notification on a talk page not so long ago by a long-term Wikipidian, who said something like: "I have deleted the stub you created back in 2005 because it's still a stub". I was, therefore, wondering if you should create stubs at all, if you can't write a sufficient amount of information yourself. Jonas Vinther (talk) 00:44, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Creating stubs is fine. Don't create any unsourced stubs though. Everything needs sources. Then there's the question of notability, as you have experienced yourself. Not everything is notable enough for an article! -- Diannaa (talk) 00:51, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Footnoting using template:sfn

Dear Diannaa,

While you were doing the GAR for The Holocaust in Belgium, you tried valiantly to persuade of the benefits of the template:sfn method of footnoting. While I'm not fully converted, I'd like to transfer Battle of Belgium to this standard and wondered if you know of a more efficient way than the basic mechanical style? I did the conversion manually at Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria which took absolutely ages and was far from perfect...

All the best, and congratulations about Operation Overlord by the way.

Brigade Piron (talk) 16:29, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! I also almost have Normandy landings ready to nominate. I don't know of any quick/easy way to do the conversion to sfn. Manually is how I do it. I will help. -- Diannaa (talk) 16:33, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Adolf Hitler: The Greatest Story Never Told

Hi friend. I think it's time to create an article regarding the 2013 Nazi propaganda and highly controversial 6-hour documentary called Adolf Hitler: The Greatest Story Never Told. Google search shows signs of extreme notability, however, I'm having doubts whether to create the article myself in the fear of being labeled as a pro-Nazi. Also, most of the researched I could find was original research. I'd like your thoughts on whether you think it should be created. Since there is articles for other Nazi propaganda pieces like Victory of Faith and Triumph of the Will, I think this should have one too. What's your thoughts? Jonas Vinther (talk) 17:20, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

The general notability guideline calls for "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject", and I'm not seeing that when I look at Google. Comparing Riefenstahl's films, I am not seeing Victory of the Faith getting extensive coverage in books and periodicals, but Triumph of the Will certainly does. Regarding your reputation, no one will think you are pro-Nazi for specialising in this topic unless you start to slant your prose to indicate Nazi leanings or put such material on your user page. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:40, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
So, all in all, you would not consider the documentary to be notable enough? Jonas Vinther (talk) 01:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
That's right, because there's no coverage in secondary sources such as newspapers and magazines. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:38, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
I would agree with Diannaa on this. Not notable enough. Kierzek (talk) 02:23, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Inergen / Argonite

What would you think about replacing both the Inergen and Argonite pages with redirects to something advert free like this? http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:Mtpaley/sandbox Just after a second opinion. These adverty pages have been annoying me for a while. Mtpaley (talk) 19:46, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

I think it's a good idea. How to find sources, that's the question. We don't have anything in our local library on this topic. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:00, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Liberal CN's will be required. The current pages are just copy pastes from advertising pages. For instance look at Argonite and compare it with this http://www.chemetron.com/utcfs/Templates/Pages/Template-53/0,8062,pageId%3D62637%26siteId%3D5230,00.html.
I can't say for sure whether Wikipedia copied from there or the other way around, as the oldest version of that page available on the Wayback Machine is after the date the content was added to this wiki. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:23, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Regardless of the inscrutable history and given that the current pages need CN tags every other line do you think that I should replace both links with redirects to a new page? My model for how to do this correctly is FM-200 which just redirects to the facts or at the very least CN facts instead of marketing division statements. Mtpaley (talk) 20:31, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Due to the potential copyright issues and the lack of sources to establish notability of the individual products, yeah, I think this is a good idea. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:45, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
No need for a new page, Gaseous fire suppression does it.
Okay good, thanks for your help in resolving this. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:22, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Kingsville Academy

What was the basis for deleting Kingsville Academy, and why was I not given any notice of its proposed deletion? In the case of the Seal of Chico, California, we are dealing with a government document source, and therefore there is no copyright violation at all. I see that you are working off of a computer generated list which consists basically of almost every contribution I have ever made. Perhaps we can work a little smarter if we were to communicate a bit here? Certainly, very few off of that list have any issues at all. So could we keep me in the loop and save some good content and effort, please? Thanks. Greg Bard (talk) 21:57, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Gregbard. I have reviewed the instructions which appear at the top of each CCI case page, and it does not specify that the contributor should be notified when violations are found. While it's true that most of the diffs I have checked so far do not contain any copyright violations, there's many that I have been unable to resolve because there was no source provided at the time the content was added.

The source material for the Seal of Chico page was the website here, which is not a government of California website. The content was brought over unchanged, except the phrase "The Chico City Clerk reported ..." was not included. The Kingsville Academy page was taken verbatim from the page here (the first paragraph of prose, near the bottom of the page), omitting the phrase "by a number of public spirited men." -- Diannaa (talk) 23:05, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Listen, it isn't too big a deal. Those particular articles were very short with the hope of later development. However, you can understand why I would be nervous when the computer has created such a long list of my contributions without any thought, and all of a sudden deletions are being done without notice. Both of those articles could have been salvaged without too much effort. I see that you have been making changes to many of them, which frankly, I don't believe are any risk in the least, but nonetheless, is appreciated for what it is worth. Please let me know about any future deletions from that list. Thanks. Greg Bard (talk) 23:37, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, friend. I have spent about 2 days significantly improving the practically unreadable article of Käthe von Nagy. I was hoping to improve so much it could pass got GA status. I know it's not able to pass yet, however, I would very much appreciate if you would review it and make some comments on the talk page on what should be improved or changed in order to make it a Good Article. Cheers, friend. Jonas Vinther (talk) 13:04, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

This is a good effort so far. I have done some improvements and posted some comments on the article talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:29, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much, friend. I posted a response to you on the article's talk page. Also, while I was improving Nagy's article, I also significantly improved 1940 Field Marshal Ceremony article, mostly per suggestions on talk page. I'm sure that article can pass for GA status now. Dear Admin Diannaa,

This image is not OK (as you stated in its file history) for Commons as it has a NC restriction on flickr. Since it was moved to Commons, I have to fail it on Commons. I hope it can remain on Wikipedia as a non-free image. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:57, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately it does not qualify for fair use. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:01, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Käthe von Nagy

I have added the filmography to Nagy's article, done by copying Tom Hank's wikitable as you said. Once the article is improved to 1000 words and added those German book sources you linked on the talk page, it should come very close to GA status. :) Jonas Vinther (talk) 01:38, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

I saw the table; it's awesome. Good luck-- Diannaa (talk) 02:33, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

DYK Stats

Hi Diannaa, I was waiting to add Overlord to stats as "Because of the timing of the stats collection, nearly all hooks which exit the main page around 00:00 UTC get extra DYK views on the next day X+1; in this case views for two consecutive days (X and X+1) should be summed". Also, the calculation needed to remove background views cannot be done until todays stats are available, as "this page aims to list the views originating from the DYK section of the main page. Some articles draw additional views unrelated to DYK". So, we add the 6th and the 7th views, then minus 5th +8th views/2. Sorry if that was confusing... Thanks, Matty.007 12:14, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

(watching:) I normally add the first day, then adjust the second, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:46, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
@Matty.007: Yes it is confusing! Sorry for messing up :/ -- Diannaa (talk) 14:12, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
As Gerda says, not really a mistake, just something that may have been better waiting. I think this is the hardest combo, multiple days with views on the side! Anyhow, congratulations again on a brilliant GA, and for thinking of putting it up on D-Day. All the best, Matty.007 14:15, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
Only topped by making Normandy landings a GA right in time for the day, with most impressive stats that show nowhere, or do they? - Those for my TFA, 300 years after, will be more modest ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:26, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
Oh wow! I am expecting to see this near the top of the Signpost traffic stats, that's where they'll be! All the best, Matty.007 14:35, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
That's why I improved Normandy landings! There's nothing worse than seeing stuff listed in the top views and discovering the article was only Start-class. No excuse for it, really, as we already know the page will get the hits on the big day whether it's been improved or not! --Diannaa (talk) 14:43, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
@Matty.007: Thanks for doing the math. This was my first DYK so I am grateful for the help. I transferred your data to the chart for June; I hope this was the right thing to do. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:21, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
That was your first DYK? You handled it like you'd had hundreds... Should all be OK on stats. Thanks again, Matty.007 16:23, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Pick your brain

(Or penny for your thoughts.) I thought anything w/ subject-verb-predicate qualified as "sentence". When all three are present what criteria makes "fragment"? Thx. Ihardlythinkso (talk) 05:51, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The verb is usually considered part of the predicate. Anyway, in formal writing a subject and predicate are necessary-but-not-sufficient elements of a sentence: it must also be independent, able to stand alone. When the subject is a relative pronoun, for one common kind of exception, the would-be sentence is only a relative clause that must be appended to a main sentence. Which is not a sentence. For another, a verb in the infinitive or absolute form is not usually able to support a predicate. The sentence to be edited. It’s hard to enumerate all the criteria offhand—there are probably monographs on the subject–so I’d rather see an example of the specific kind of phrasing that’s at issue.—Odysseus1479 07:17, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Thx for that knowledge ... let me study this. Ihardlythinkso (talk) 19:08, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Wannsee isbn

Hi Diannaa

I changed the isbn on Steven Lehrer's book because I clicked on the number and the WP Book sources page didn't link this number to any book via Worldcat or any other link. I substituted a new isbn taken from amazon.com which did link through to a book on Book sources page via Worldcat. It was intended to be a constructive edit.

This topic interests me. I appreciate the fine work you've done on Wannsee Conference and elsewhere. I have been trying to improve the quality of the Final Solution page, which I think was in poor condition re prose and sources. Best, Mick gold (talk) 06:03, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Mick gold. I put the isbn 978-0-7864-9144-5 in Worldcat and didn't get any hits either. Looking at this page, it shows 978-0-7864-9144-5 is the isbn for the e-book. I will get a copy of the actual book on intra-library loan and have a look at the pagination (and isbn). This may take as long as 8 weeks to receive. Thanks for your attention to detail and for all you do to help improve the encyclopedia. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:10, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
@Mick gold: ISBN from the hardback edition from U of A Library is 0-7864-0792-1 (ISBN 13: 978-0-7864-0792-7). I think I may have just looked at this source online, hence the ebook ISBN. Pagination is the same for both editions. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:59, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Access to academic resources (journals, etc) for Wikipedia editors

Hi Dianna,

You have been very helpful to me in the past and I appreciate that. There is no rush in responding to this as I am editing less during Calgary's gardening season.

In order to manage bibliographic references when I was active in academia, I used EndNote. I think it would be so useful to have access to a similar technology for editors contributing regularly to wikipedia.

I believe you introduced me a another resource available to editors like myself you use academic peer-reviewed journals when editing Wikipedia articles. There was an application form of some kind and information about one's contributions was required. I would like to follow through with this and would appreciate any advice, suggestions and comments.

Thanks, Maureen oceanflynn 14:05, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Question

Am I deluded to think that my created article Hitler and Mannerheim recording could pass for GA status? Jonas Vinther (talk) 17:18, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Check it against the GA criteria. Wikipedia:Good article criteria. A quick glance shows problems: The lead contains material not present elsewhere in the article (fails 1B); the material in the lead is unsourced; extensive quotation of copyright material; the image appears to be PD in the source country, but there's no evidence it's PD in the United States. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:13, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
So, without checking GA criteria, a proper and good reformulation of the lead, could make it a worthy GA candidate? Jonas Vinther (talk) 22:57, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Why have you got such a huge quotation in the article? The material is not public domain, and it's too big a quotation for Fair Use. Once that's removed the article is far too short for GA. No, I do not think this is a good candidate for a GA nomination. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:02, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
By quotation you mean the recording section? Jonas Vinther (talk) 01:26, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes I do. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:33, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
The "quote" is not really a quote, but a translation of a recording. The subject of the article is a recording. It would be meaningless to have a an article with that subject without the recording in words, and it would totally confusion, misleading, and un-understandable if only a few words or sentences were added. It's historically important to get the whole conversation. The translation is essentially the heart of the entire article. Don't you overall agree on this? I'm not quite sure what you mean. If I remove the recording, the article will barely contain 100 hours. Jonas Vinther (talk) 02:20, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Translate it yourself, then include that. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 03:53, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Did you translate it yourself, Jonas? -- Diannaa (talk) 03:55, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
I was going to, but I found an already translated version of it, so there was no need. Jonas Vinther (talk) 13:36, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
The translation is copyright. You will have to make your own translation, as it's too large for fair use. It's a copyright violation, so sorry. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:39, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
But... My translation will turn out the same as any other translation? Like you can't edit or reformulated a quote, because it has to exactly what the person said. Anyways, I did some improvement's to the page. Jonas Vinther (talk) 14:26, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed you deleted this article ("Unambiguous copyright infringement: from http://www.iep.utm.edu/law-phil/#SSH2a.i"). The article consisted of only two sentences: (a) "Legal moralism is the theory of jurisprudence and the philosophy of law which holds that laws may be used to prohibit or require behavior based on whether or not society's collective moral judgment is that it is immoral or moral." and (b) "Legal moralism implies that it is permissible for the state to use its coercive power to enforce society's collective morality." The second one was copypasted from the IEP article: "legal moralism implies that it is permissible for the state to use its coercive power to enforce society’s collective morality." But the first one was not a copyvio. Could you restore the page? We could have just the first sentence alone plus the two appendices. --Omnipaedista (talk) 04:20, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Done. I thought the first sentence was a too-close paraphrase of the first sentence of the source but I think perhaps they are not so alike after all, and I was being over-cautious. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:35, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

The Ribbon International

Thank you for your contributions and editing. The reason I was upset Tuesday night was due to just receiving one set of contributions Tuesday night that I spent 4 months trying to get from Marie Dennis Grassco, only to discover that the intro paragraph had been chopped in half, and deleted for which she had sent edits to apply. Numerous pages on Wiki have a description, an intro or a synopsis of the page. Anti-nuclear movement, Neuroglia, Subdural hematoma, Woodstock, March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,

I was waiting for additional editing and copy to be emailed to add to the page, before I made additional edits. I also got turned off working on the page, due to all the negativity. I am also waiting on a professor in Mexico to finish her school year, to contribute information on the UNESCO event. I was keeping the page kind of wordy, to lengthen the copy, as I was hoping to add one or two additional photos with the additional copy, one being of a Noble Prize laureate with a ribbon panel from the UNESCO Mexico event. As you will notice, the Anti-nuclear movement page has 50 images and the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom has 12 images in the gallery. I would like to try and design a similar page like the Anti-nuclear movement to enable the addition of a few more photos. Marie is scanning a number of historical documents, hopefully to have some included on the page. "The Ribbon Route" map image is important, as it provides readers who have never been to the Washington, D.C. area, a visual display of "The Ribbon" route.

There is also a paragraph that was deleted, concerning the cold war and the nuclear arms race that was prominent in world at the time and played a crucial role in the creation of panels for "The Ribbon", according to Mary Frances Jaster. The "Article" section was also deleted that needs to be restored. In the "Videos" the last video was deleted with Host Judy Lerner, "Speaking of Women". Information concerning the Smithsonian Museum was deleted and needs to be restored. An introductory sentence for Justine needs to be restored, saying she was a grand mother, activist and was from Denver, CO, as there is nothing to designated her age, background or location, other than just being a body. In addition, the sentence as to how Justine started "The Ribbon" with Christmas cards also needs to be included. The two times the word activist was used needs to be restored. The quotation marks around "The Ribbon" need to be restored, as it is the name of a piece of art work. Also there are minor technical errors on the page, and I got another email this week with additional edits for the page. The correct title for Pope John II, Pope Saint John Paul II needs to be restored, according to a priest with the Catholic church. I could continue, but it is time to work on other things. Susan Macafee (talk) 23:01, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Susan Macafee, content was deleted for a reason. [2], [3], [4]. The article doesn't have to list every place the movement is mentioned. --NeilN talk to me 23:16, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi Susan, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I can certainly understand why you find it upsetting to discover that people have removed content from the article. However, the people who have been working on it are experienced long-time Wikipedians who know how to create an article that meets our guidelines for content, style, sourcing, and formatting.

Discussions about what content should or should not be included in the article need to take place at the article talk page, not here. A couple of quick general points: All content in Wikipedia articles needs to be sourced to reliable third-party sources, such as books, newspapers, and magazines (Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources). Personal letters and emails and inaccessible documents are not considered reliable sources. The article should not be over-loaded with photos; extra images should be hosted on the Commons. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:19, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

I forgot to ask why you rewrote the page and did the edits, without first posting on the talk page or on my talk page, or giving me a chance to edit. I was waiting for additional edits and copy to be sent and added, before I did any more editing on the page. Also, there are numerous pages on Wikipedia that contain copy that is wordy for the page. What prompted you to rewrite the page? I was in the process of trying to find someone to help me with the layout, as there are a multitude of Wikipedia pages that have more images that what was on this page. I visited the page after seeing a report on the admin notice board, Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#WP:IUC and WP:OWN by USER:Susan Macafee for The Ribbon International. Diannaa - Thank you for restoring the map on the page and all the coding. As for the length of The Ribbon. I think originally I had 18 miles for the length of The Ribbon, I then calculated how many yards in a mile to estimate the mileage. 15 Miles = 26,400 Yards / 18 Miles = 31,680 Yards. The 18 miles is way over the number of panels @ 36"/1 yard that were used or even available, it was then changed to 15 miles. Since the change I have spoken to three of the planners who also said 15 miles. About 27,000 panels were actually used, out of 30,000 panels. Every source has a different estimate for the length of The Ribbon. "As for the paragraph you removed saying I had copied the paragraph, which I did not do, I paraphrased the paragraph. I can put the two paragraphs on your talk page so you can see the comparisons side by side. In Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing, under the section "when there are a limited number of ways to say the same thing". I would like to restore the paragraph. Susan Macafee (talk) 02:49, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Hello Susan. Please do not restore the paragraph. If you do so, you could be blocked from editing, because you would be knowingly adding copyright material to Wikipedia after having been warned not to do so. It is almost identical to a paragraph in the book; the wording is almost identical, and both convey exactly the same information in exactly the same order. That particular page is visible via Google. Samples:
Source: Countless other panels went abroad and were given to peace, ecology, and religious groups as a demonstration of friendship and good will.
Article: Numerous panels were sent abroad to peace, ecology, and religious groups as a demonstration of friendship and good will.

Article: Some of the 500 participants in the Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament in 1986 carried Ribbons as they walked 3,700 miles across the continental United States.
Source: On August 31, 1986, a group of four hundred people gathered to encircle the Horse Creek Missile Silo near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Some of them held ribbon panels as a part of their protest against MX missile deployment.
Article: On August 31, 1986, a group of 400 people—some with Ribbon panels—gathered to surround the Horse Creek Missile Silo near Cheyenne, Wyoming as a protest against MX missile deployment. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:06, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
I wish Wiki help IRC had told me at the beginning when they looked at the page numerous times that I needed to separate Pershing's references and post page numbers, so you didn't have to do it. You could have asked me to get the page numbers. At least you sort of got a chance to see Linda's book. In Wikipedia:Citing for books "sources the chapter number or page numbers for the chapter are optional".
Pertainig to the removed paragraph, this is what I have.
Source: Countless other panels went abroad and were given to peace, ecology, and religious groups as gestures of friendship and goodwill.
Article: Numerous panels were sent abroad for peace, ecology, and religious groups as a demonstration of friendship and good will.
Source: Some of the five hundred participants in the 1986 Great Peace March carried ribbons with them as they walked thirty-seven hundred miles across the continental United Stares in a call for global nuclear disarmament
Article: In 1986, a number of the five hundred participants in the Great Peace March carried Ribbons, as they walked thirty-seven hundred miles across the continental United States, for action on global nuclear disarmament.
Source:On August 31 of the same year, four hundred people gathered to encircle the Horse Creek Missile Silo near Cheyenne, WY. Some of them held Ribbon panels as a part of their protest of MX missile deployment
Article:Later that month, on August 31, a group of four hundred people gathered to surround the Horse Creek Missile Silo near Cheyenne, WY, with some participants showing Ribbon panels as a part of their protest of MX missile deployment.[12]
I was going to rewrite the article, but now it would only be these three sentences, and giving credit in the paragraph besides the reference (if needed). Or can I put the paragraph in quotation marks and give credit to Linda in the paragraph, besides referencing? 05:57, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Susan Macafee (talk)
Regarding proper formatting of references, page numbers are not strictly required, but adding them adds to the ease with which other people can verify the content is present. Since this is a wiki, and different people bring different skill sets, it's not unusual for someone to come along and improve the page. In fact it's desirable, and it's how Wikipedia continues to get better. The material in the deleted paragraph is too long to insert as a quotation; adding it in that form would still be unacceptable. I will try to re-write it. Could you please make further comments about the article on the article talk page? That way other interested editors can see your remarks and offer suggestions or participate in other ways. Talk: The Ribbon International -- Diannaa (talk) 13:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Notability

Would you say the Canadian actress Daiva Johnston is notable enough for a Wikipedia article? Jonas Vinther (talk) 18:32, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Nevermind; I found out myself. :) Jonas Vinther (talk) 19:41, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for Your last edit about Erich, the Field Marshal. I think the lead actually became better than before. Have a nice summer, You decerve it Boeing720 (talk) 19:52, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

I am glad we were finally able to agree on a new wording. Regards, -- Diannaa (talk) 20:01, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

I've noticed the very good work you have been doing in recent months, and offer this as a token of appreciation. Thank you. Johnfos (talk) 02:56, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, I am honoured. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:07, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Hi Diannaa ,

Thank you for cleaning the Contributor copyright investigations of mine . I have completely understood what my fault was and where my mistakes lay . The paraphrasing which you have done are awesome and they show the way forward for me . I will make sure that those mistakes never occur again .

Commons sibi (talk) 10:19, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Commons sibi. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:24, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa, I'm a little confused about your edit on Rudolf Stüssi. You say that the text was copied from [5] which is a bad URL. The insideworldsoccer article has nothing to do with a 15th century Swiss politician, while the book comes from 1855 and per my understanding is no longer under copyright.Tobyc75 (talk) 11:38, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Tobyc75. Sorry for the copy-paste error in the edit summary. The correct url is on the article talk page. When copying from PD text, in order to avoid plagiarism, you must give attribution. This can be done with the use of {{PD-notice}} or similar templates. I have re-added the material. Thanks for catching this mistake. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:17, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Normandy landings and Utah Beach

Utah Beach seems to need work, and doesn't reflect what Normandy landings says about the error in the landing point. You seem to know more about this than I do, do you want to fix it? Dougweller (talk) 12:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Dougweller. The article is start-class and needs a lot of work. I have books out on inter-library loan to do Bormann so I will have to work on that first. But I will add Utah Beach to my list of potential projects and will get to it later in the year. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:23, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Dougweller (talk) 14:49, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Ronn Torossian

I would appreciate it if you you would voice your opinion on the talk page. A user named Huon thinks the article needs extensive changes to meet Wikipedia's policies. We have been arguing very pointlessly on the talk page, and I think some other opinions might level both his and my heads. Thanks, --Ravpapa (talk) 13:09, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ravpapa. Sorry but I can't give opinions on content and act as administrator on the same article, so I will have to stay out of it. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:20, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
