A tag has been placed on User:Dgetahun473, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Unblock Appeal
i was not trying to promote or advertise, i thought the person was important enough to have a Wikipedia article, as we all know there is a disproportionately low articles on Wikipedia on important figure's from Ethiopia, and i was trying to fill that gap by writing articles who I think deserve to have article on the platform, the first attempt I have I was blocked by an administrator @Materialscientist in 2021, since then I haven't been able to write or edit an article on Wikipedia. Please review and reconsider your decision, I was not under malicious intent or try to push a narrative, I was simply try to write article about people's who I think I have a good insight about their biography. @Dgetahun473: if you are unblocked, what kind of edits would you make? voorts (talk/contributions) 00:28, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be willing to consider unblocking as you made only one edit in userspace before beig blocked, and some of us feel like it is time to move away from that approach. However, the page you did post, although brief, was blatantly promotional in its tone, was not submitted as a draft article so it is unclear what your intent was in posting it to your userpage, and had no sources attached.

What I think we'd all like to see is an indication that you understand some of Wikipedia's most basic and important policies, such as basing content on what independent reliable sources have already written about a given subject, maintianing a neutral tone when writing about subjects, and avoiding directly editing content where you have a conflict of interest.

I know that seems like a lot but your one deleted edit shows the first two issues for a certainty and strongly suggests the third one. If you could read up on those basic apolicies, specifically, NPOV, RS and COI, and agree to abide by them that would be helpful. Pinging @Materialscientist: as blocking admin in case they have anything to add. Beeblebrox Beebletalks 20:09, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why I asked the question I did above, but given that this editor wrote a very blatant advertisement for a consultant with a broken website link and is now trying to pass that off as attempting to write an article about an "important figure[] from Ethiopia" in order to fix an imbalance of articles on people from the Global South on Wikipedia, I am not inclined to believe that this editor actually has any good faith interest in improving the encyclopedia. voorts (talk/contributions) 20:42, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Materialscientist has turned off notifications from pings following abuse. PhilKnight (talk) 20:55, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Good to know, I'll drop a note on their talk page. Beeblebrox Beebletalks 22:29, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Voorts, I understand your concerns, I'm not certain of any of those things myself. In particular I find myself wondering on an almost daily basis what is meant to be accomplished by creating a user page with promotional content for someone else on it.
However, I think I've laid out some reasonable expectations for the user above. I suppose I could add to what I've said above that if they were to be unblocked and then posted such content again, all that would result would be the content being deleted and the account being blocked again. I believe in second chances, I do not believe in infinite chances. Beeblebrox Beebletalks 22:40, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's unreasonable to give someone a second chance, I'm just not interested in giving them to editors that are very clearly only here to plug their (or another person's) business. Also, this account is 6 years old and this is their first edit, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a compromised account being used by a spammer. voorts (talk/contributions) 22:58, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, am only asking for a second chance, and my intentions are to make Wikipedia more encompassing by writing about what i know to be true and accurate information, Specially about Ethiopia since their is so little written about it 196.189.145.239 (talk) 16:29, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How is putting up an advertisement for a consulting firm mak[ing] Wikipedia more encompassing? voorts (talk/contributions) 17:24, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
