Non-free image use
[edit]Hi DesertStormer. The licensing of each image you see on Wikipedia is determined by it copyright status and not every image file you see on Wikipedia is licensed the same. Some files are licensed as public domain or licensed under a free licensed suitable for Wikipedia and these are often collectively referred to as "free images". Other files are licensed as non-free content because of their copyright status and these file are commonly referred to as "non-free images". Non-free image use is highly restricted and each use of such an an image must satisfy Wikipedia's non-free image use policy. One of these restrictions is WP:NFCC#9, which says that non-free content can only be used in the article namespace. For this reason and as explained in WP:UP#Non-free files and WP:UBX#caution about image use, non-free content such as File:Rickoz.jpg and File:The Cars.jpg cannot be used on your userpage. Wikimedia Commons is the host of tons of freely licensed images so perhaps there is something on Commons that you can use. c:Category:Rick Springfield, c:Category:The Cars (band) or even at c:Category:Rock music groups all contain some examples of freely licensed files that you can use. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:06, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
Hi, sorry. This is not at all a big issue to me; and I truly apologize. I had assumed that these images were for free use. But thank you for informing me; I had forgotten about Copyrighted and Unauthorized use of images - I'll be sure not to make this mistake again. DesertStormer (talk) 01:57, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- No worries. Similar things happen all the time, and it can be hard to guess the copyright status of a file from just looking at it. As I posted above, anything you find on Commons should be OK to use in those userboxes. I say "should be" only because copyvios are getting deleted from Commons all the time, so there's no 100% when it comes to Commons as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:38, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
Citing
[edit]Hi! I can see that you've made additions to a couple of articles that have been reverted. This is not necessarily because your opinions are wrong, but because you haven't provided any evidence to support your claims. Have a read of Wikipedia:Citing sources to help you out.
Hope you stick around. Doctorhawkes (talk) 21:38, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
Hi, I am sorry - I apologize - I'll try to work on it. But maybe you can help me find info on it yourself, while you're at it? Specifically the relations with Tom Petty and Don Henley et. al. I know it sounds very unprofessional when I do not have citations. It seems that I work on topics that are often disputable; so providing a credible and reliable source is harder to find. Thanks for your concern. — DesertStormer (talk) 21:53, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Mahveotm. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Heartland (United States)— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ʍaɦʋɛօtʍ (talk) 12:13, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
No. You haven't done anything wrong. I understand now that I was in the wrong. All I was trying to do was to better organize the article; and provide a more comprehensive description of the Heartland. Thanks for your feedback. — DesertStormer (talk) 22:24, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
