Hello. As a contributor to this article (or more precisely, to S. R. Sidarth, which was merged into it), you may be interested to know I have nominated it for deletion. Sources of content, and question about copyright
[edit]Hi, I noticed your most recent edits, as well as some older ones, added large passages of content that appear to be taken verbatim from the NBA website of team histories. Perhaps you could clarify the origin of the content, and whether these constitute copyright violations. Thank you, 99.149.85.229 (talk) 20:19, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Copyright concerns
[edit]Hello. :) As an administrator who works copyright issues, I was asked to look into this matter, and I'm afraid that we do need some clarification of copyright status to continue to publish some of this content. I have for the moment removed some of the material from 1957 NBA Finals and 1958 NBA Finals and have temporarily blanked the Celtics-Hawks rivalry due to duplication of material that seems to have been previously published at the NBA website. If you are affiliated with the website and are a copyright owner, we are happy to accept the donation of this material. In that case, please see WP:IOWN for the procedures for verifying license so that we can accept your donation. If you are not affiliated with the website, but have permission, we simply need to verify that. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permissions for the procedures. If you have any questions about either of those, I'm happy to help you.
If on the other hand you have copied content from other sources without realizing that we are only able to accept freely licensed and public domain material, I'm afraid we will have to remove the content until it is rewritten in original language. Wikipedia:Copyrights explains some of our policies about using previously published material; WP:Copy-paste also contains an overview of our practices. These are very important policies for Wikipedia, since they effect the legal status of our articles and may seriously impact our reusers. For this reason, aside from brief and clearly marked quotations, we simply can't use content from copyrighted sources without verification of license. It's an important enough policy for us that those who persist in copying content without verifying permission must be blocked from contributing, to protect us, our reusers and the rights of the copyright holders.
Thank you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:12, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
