Page history repair neeed

[edit]

I'm asking for sysop help in repairing page history. I know there's a page to make this request... but I can't find it right now. The page histories for Sleeman Centre (Brisbane) and Sleeman Centre need to be merged and repaired. User:Mrcbc decided to cut and paste the whole article to create a disambiguation page. Could you please assist? Thanks. Flibirigit 00:17, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think a massive change has to sweep through the traits of the human race before we'll see vandalism stop here at Wikipedia. Somehow I don't see that happening fast :) -- Longhair\talk 01:20, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Croat Canuck. Just curious, why have you used Peter Forsberg as your moniker, at this WikiProject's latest diacritics discussion. GoodDay 20:54, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Kanko.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kanko.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 13:16, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diacritics

[edit]

I've just given' (big time) to the 'pro-diacritics' editors (as humiliating as it was). I've grown 'sour' on them; bet if the 'NHL official website' had diacritics, they be supporting those websites. Never happy, unless they have a slight edge. GoodDay 00:13, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's alright CC, I just don't like having 'foreign' symbols forced on 'me'. Anyway, I'm not angry at the 'pro-diacritics' editors. It's just so 'double standard'. I'm afraid this experience has left a 'sour' taste in my mouth, even though I made the choice to 'dive' into this. I'll never agree to it (diacritics at English Wikipedia), but I'll accept it. GoodDay 00:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've reduced my WPIH membership status to 'semi-active'. It time, I stand back and give myself and everyone else 'a breather'. GoodDay 01:05, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit -- Penner's nickname is indeed "The Large Human." It's used quite often. So technically, the anon user was correct. Just thought I'd point that out. -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 22:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well he was and he wasn't, I'm being a real Wiki-Nazi when it comes to sourcing the nicknames because there just has been so much crap added to those player articles when it comes to nicknames. I can admit he is right about the nickname, but its one real (and notable) nickname in about 200 nicknames I've reverted, one blip on the screen ain't bad when it comes down to that many. Question

[edit]

Hi, I don't know if you read my post in the WP:IH talk page, but I'm going away for a week and I need somebody to watch Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Hart Memorial Trophy and address any possible concerns that might pop up. It is unopposed right now and has the required 4 votes, but things can change. Either way, I was wondering if you would mind keeping an eye on it for me. Thanks, Scorpion0422 16:12, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose I could, although I've never really dealt with this sorta thing before, but I'll keep an eye on it for ya. I'll probably be a little too busy though until monday night to do anything dramatic. Croat Canuck talk 22:15, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Basically all you have to do is watch the FLC and if somebody has a concern, address it. It won't involve that much work. Currently, there is no opposition, but that can change. Either way, thanks a lot. -- Scorpion0422 22:28, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. Thanks for the welcome back. Note that Corey Bryant is not the same as VaughanWatch. I just warned Corey for his personal attacks. Then it was a bunch of VW socks that came out to attack me. I doubt that it was Corey that was attacking me. If it was, he is mimicking VW all too well. -- JamesTeterenko 03:06, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Adminship

[edit]

Hi Croat, thank you very much for the vote of confidence that I could be a good administrator. And yes, I am interested in becoming an admin, if I can help this project grow, and retain the character that makes it an excellent diversion, and excuse to research that which is interesting. Thanks! Resolute 00:26, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No rush. Gives me an extra day to figure out how to do one of those "thank you" templates for any who take the time to comment on an RfA, heh. Resolute 00:54, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a Small World After All

[edit]

OK, this really has nothing to do with anything, but I had to share. I was just looking at your user page and I read about you being the first editor to put the 2005 World Series championship officially on Chicago White Sox. That was actually among my first experiences with Wikipedia.

I was just learning about Wikipedia in a technology class earlier in the week. In fact, we may have actually talked about it that day; I'm not sure. Anyway, I actually made a post to my class blog about your edit, including a link to it: See? Isn't that something?

Wacky, huh? Skudrafan1 02:10, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Chiki?

[edit]

Marge on the Lam is a decent episode indeed, but Homer's Enemy is at the top of my favourites list. Anyway, thanks a lot. I'm currently working on James Norris Memorial Trophy. I've got the list formatted, I just need to get some sources for the history section and it'll be ready. -- Scorpion0422 23:53, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt I'll do every trophy article, but I'd love to see an NHL Trophies FT, perhaps others will pick up on it and improve the others. Basically I was just bored earlier and was looking for an article and somehow ended up with that one. I'm kind of sick of working on Simpsons episode pages and would love to have some more non-Simpsons related featured articles to my name. -- Scorpion0422 00:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't THAT bad of an edit summary... I've made worse. By the way, using the hockey player infobox on your user page is genius. -- Scorpion0422 00:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not, but I have created a page to document the status of those working on Trophy & Award pages here. -- Scorpion0422 21:22, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unmove / history repair

[edit]

Dear Croat, an overzealous football fan moved an article in progress from my userspace into the mainspace at the Jean Carlos Chera article. I was working on this article... (very slowly) to get it up to notability standards, which it currently fails. Could you please move this back to User:Flibirigit/Jean Carlos Chera and delete the Jean Carlos Chera article itself. Up for adoption

[edit]

I noticed you put yourself on the list of users looking to take a noob under their wing. I am very interested in helping wikipedia update there pages and keeping vandalism away. Hockey is my number one passion and you were the first person who liked hockey looking to adopt. I've already made some edits to Bill and Bob Plagers pages. My favorite hockey team is the Detroit Red Wings and I love the Toronto Blue Jays, it appears as if you do to. :) --Mister Hockey 04:58, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking me in. I don't have any question yet, but I am just starting to explore the site. I'll make sure to contact you if any questions come up! :) I will also be joining the group you suggested, thanks!--Mister Hockey 22:39, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a baseball group similar to the hockey one on wikipedia? I think it would be interesting to be a part of that group as well. :) Terrible loss for the Jays today as well... Accardo seems to be getting tired! --Mister Hockey 05:16, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My new userpage

[edit]

Of course my new userpage is based on your design! I had a lot of fun writing my autobiographical page, and (of course) my memorable (to me at least) edit conflict with you has a prominent mention. Skudrafan1 20:33, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WOW! Take a look at this mess! I think she is borderline notable, but this needs to be cleaned up. What do you think? Flibirigit 21:25, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering what your status was with the project. We are very close - there are only 3 unclaimed articles left - and if we all work at it, we could be ready for an FTC by November. Thanks for the time, Scorpion0422 22:47, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick question, I'm not very well-versed in team lineages, but I have been working on the O'Brien Trophy, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Shirts, St. Pats AND Arenas all won the Trophy, so for the Win# column, should they all be combined, or listed seperately. Thanks, Scorpion0422 19:05, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for the clarification. I think I've fixed it now. -- Scorpion0422 19:18, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New recognized content

By Maxim

Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]

  1. Hart Memorial Trophy
  2. James Norris Memorial Trophy
  3. Vezina Trophy
  4. Conn Smythe Trophy
  5. Frank J. Selke Trophy
  6. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
  7. Lester B. Pearson Award
  8. Calder Memorial Trophy
  9. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
  10. King Clancy Memorial Trophy
  11. Jack Adams Award
  12. Presidents' Trophy
  13. List of Calgary Flames players

There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

  1. ^ The last one, List of Calgary Flames players, is the only one not associated with the featured topic drive.
  2. ^ At the time of publishing, there were 5 lists at WP:FLC and 2 lists in the "Holding cell", as there's been an accepted guideline to not put more that 5 trophy lists at the same time to, "compensate for the sanity of the reviewers".

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:

  1. Hart Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  2. James Norris Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  3. Vezina Trophy (Scorpion)
  4. Conn Smythe Trophy (Serte)
  5. Frank J. Selke Trophy (FutureNJGov)
  6. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  7. Lester B. Pearson Award (Scorpion)
  8. Calder Memorial Trophy (Croat Canuck)
  9. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  10. King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  11. Jack Adams Award (Maxim)
  12. Presidents' Trophy (Scorpion)
  13. Stanley Cup (Earlier collaboration, very many involved)
  14. Traditions and anecdotes associated with the Stanley Cup (Maxim)

Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion.

FL Main page proposal

[edit]

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:56, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Making the list sortable, somewhat.

[edit]

Since you are the main contributor to this list, I figured I should let you know what I would like to do to it. Would you be opposed to me doing this, at all? BsroiaadnTalk 21:11, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I like the font on your talk page. BsroiaadnTalk 21:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll wait a day or two to see if anyone says they have objections to it...plus it will give me time to finish it in my sandbox. BsroiaadnTalk 22:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there...

[edit]

Wow, I guess I shoudve read your userpage better. I noticed that you had a lot of involvement in hockey article and I assumed that you were using 'Canuck' in the context of the Vancouver Canucks, not as a person from Canada. I guess that's better. There's no games between the Wild and Leafs this year, so here's hoping for a Stanley Cup match-up. Talk to ya later, WildFan48 13:27, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LOTD proposal

[edit]

You have nominated a recently successful WP:FL. There have been two recent proposals to begin a List of the Day feature on the main page, which have both received majorities but have not been approved as overwhelming support sufficient to change the main page. WP:LOTDP is a new proposal to try to get the ball rolling based on the original proposal. You can voice your thoughts on its talk page. Basically, what the proposal entails is attempting to run an official trial, and then vote after the trial run on whether to change the main page. Support to run a trial requires much less consensus than support to change the main page. Should we succeed at eventually getting such a feature on the main page it would tentatively look like this. Whether or not you support an experimental trial or not you should come discuss the matter at WP:LOTDP's talk page. I apologize if you have either already voiced your opinion on this matter or already tired of hearing about it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 21:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 01:04, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Franz Josef Strauß

[edit]

Might I ask you to take a look at the new discussion going on at Franz Josef Strauß? Yes, it is an ancient topic (the use of ß on en-wiki), but this is one of the most prominent articles in which this issue is of significance. Given your experience, your input would be very much appreciated. Unschool (talk) 01:39, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Mark Lea Hardy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Kitchener Rangers reitred numbers

[edit]

Hey Canuck, long time no see. I hope you have time to visit WikiProject Ice Hockey soon. I'm also going to be in Kitchener for the Memorial Cup this Spring. Maybe we will get to chat in person. I noticed that the Rangers retired Scott Stevens' number. [1] But that article doesn't say what number it is. I was going to guess # 4 but the Rangers web site says Alex Dzielski wears that number. If you know, please update the Kitchener Rangers article or let me know. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 12:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes
  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!
  • Help Patrik Stefan -- one of the greatest NHL draft busts -- become a GA status article.

Replaceable fair use Image:Federko.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Federko.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 00:23, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Cassels.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Cassels.jpg.

Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 18:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Croat Canuck! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 21 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 7 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Global account

[edit]

Hi Croat Canuck! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:44, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
