Asking for creating a page
Hello;
I'm about publishing a page for Arsha Aghdasi as a linked page for the Persian ones fa:ارشا اقدسی. The English page has been deleted a few times. So I want to ask for your help to both inform me about the reason of deletion and checking my draft in the sandbox and notify me if it's good to publish.(I wrote a review about it, so can you check and confirm it if it's possible) Looking forward to hear the answer;
Thanks. Atena ak2 (talk) 18:26, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Atena ak2 I have declined your draft because it lacks of Wikipedia:Reliable sources, please do notice that the inclusion criteria for the english and the persian version of Wikipedia are different. Articles about your subject had further been deleted in the past 3 times for similar reasons. CommanderWaterford (talk) 18:32, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
I tried to use references which are not related to him. Can I use Persian references too? and sorry I didn’t understand you. You mean that the English article shouldn’t be the same as Persian one? Atena ak2 (talk) 18:42, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

These references are already sited and approved from: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Aquasco,_Maryland You declined this the draft for the William R. Barker House for not providing a reliable sources. Please advise as the sources and references are well documented.
KenjiDarby (talk) 18:27, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- @KenjiDarby I see exactly one source only and this is a pdf. Please have a closer look at Wikipedia:THREE and Wikipedia:Reliable sources, thank you. CommanderWaterford (talk) 18:30, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- @KenjiDarby I am afraid but in the Maryland Wikipedia Article the sources 3 and 4 are referring to your subject. Source 3 is a dead link, meaning de facto not existing, Source 4 is the one you are mentioning - which is not sufficient, you will need to provide at least 1-2 more sources. CommanderWaterford (talk) 19:00, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- @CommanderWaterford there are 10 References pertaining to the link I provided to you above. Specifcally Reference 4: "M-NCPPC Illustrated Inventory of Histroic Sites (Prince Georges County, Maryland) 2006 - The William R. Barker House is listed as a Hisgtoric site, identified by the Marland-MNational Capital Park and Planning Commmsion. Please advise. The previous PDF document source was from msa.maryland.gov- The Marland State Archives.. both officioal sources.

Hi! My original entry lacked sources but I've worked more on it and added more information and sources. I've read a lot of contemporaries' entries for comparison and it seems similar, but I'd love any insight/help on making this entry publishable. Would it be beneficial to list her episode writing and directing credits? She's also mentioned in a contemporary's autobiography, but I wasn't sure if that is appropriate. Thank you! Recieved feedback from experienced admin
Since you said I am inexperienced for AFD closures, I requested for a feedback from an experienced admin who usually deals with closures. They are with the opinion that my closures seems fine to them except the one you raised at DRV[1]. I would like to remind one thing Barkeep said on their talk page that the properly done NAC can draw criticism that the same close by an admin would not. From now onwards, I will be taking the atmost precaution while dealing with closures as I dont want to end up in trouble. And once again, thankyou for your feedback and happy editing. Regards. First, please accept my apologies for the long time to respond, but I've had some things go on. I just wanted to thank you for taking time to look in on what I posted, and will get back to you. Don't want you to think you wasted your time. I'm kind of a noob and not a great programmer, so it took me a while to figure out how to do the "diff" link. Will get back and interested in what you think. Take care.Brucelucier (talk) 02:38, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Dutch Names
Hi, Can you explain Dutch names to me? When I research these people, the sources are often divided - some use "van" and some some don't - and I'm never sure which version to use as the article title. Is "van" always included? Thanks. T. E. Meeks (talk) 11:46, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- @T. E. Meeks No, "van" is not always included, Dutch names exist with "van" and without. If there is a "van" in an original source I would use this name. CommanderWaterford (talk) 15:15, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Re: tag on ATMS page
Hello, Commander. I added some citations to the page Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder. Was the issue of the tag just the number of citations, or is there something specific needing a reference?--Phil074 (talk) 19:37, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Phil074 At the time of reviewing this article it had exactly only one reference which was further not verifiable. CommanderWaterford (talk) 19:40, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- @CommanderWaterford: True, there was 1 reference, to Kim et al (2014) in the Journal of Geophysical Research. Now there are a total of 8 refs. However, I don't understand why you say that one was not verifiable; it's even open-access. (Just trying to understand your concern.)--Phil074 (talk) 20:36, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi @CommanderWaterford:, an article you had previously moved into draftspace on April 16 was today reuploaded with what seems to be even less references and content. I was initially planning on moving it to draft but noticed that a draft with the same name exists and noticed you had previously moved it. I'm not sure how to proceed as the draft page title is already occupied by the older draft. Feel free to take care of this, I assume the new mainspace article should be moved back to draftspace too. Your advise on what to do in these situations is most welcome! nearlyevil665 14:34, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing @Nearlyevil665 - very good work. You should mark it as unreferenced or if you think he is not notable (did not check it) -> AfD. Editors can deny moving an article into draftspace by moving it back to mainspace. CommanderWaterford (talk) 14:40, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- The article is in dire state. Definitely not encyclopedic material as it stands. Would you agree it would be within reason to move it back to draftspace and suggest the author to go through AfC? nearlyevil665 14:45, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Your denial of Earl Thollander
Hi @CommanderWaterford, you have reviewed my draft on Earl Hollander, and upon declining you said it lacks notability through the citations that were provided. I kind of agree, at the initial form (when you reviewed it) the draft indeed lacked proper citations. Actually the subject of the article is long deceased, since it's super hard to find any credible citations. But, I've looked upon the internet and newspaper archive websites, and dug up some credible citations (such as from Nytimes, SF Chronicle, Napa Valley, SF examiner, The press democrat, etc...). My kind request to you is, rereview the draft. I'm hopeful that it might pass this time around. Thanks! Tame (talk) 13:42, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Tamingimpala I noticed your conversation with Cullen on its talk page regarding this draft - I am usually not reviewing a draft which I declined twice so please be patient until another reviewer will take care of it. CommanderWaterford (talk) 15:10, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Adoption request
Hello CommanderWaterford,
Thank you for rating the first article I wrote (Logic of appropriateness).
I am a relative newcomer to Wikipedia and I would like to write a few more articles on various social science theories (see the info on my userpage). I saw on your user page that you are a highly experienced Wikipedian and that you are willing to adopt new users.
Would you be willing to adopt me?
I would be grateful if you were, because I believe that I could learn a lot from you. If you are simply too busy to adopt new people, however, I would, of course, completely understand.
All best, Socialsciencenerd (talk) 13:53, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Socialsciencenerd I left you already some info at your talk page, sure can I adopt you, no problem. CommanderWaterford (talk) 15:47, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Hello CommanderWaterford, thanks very much! Your message made my day. Many thanks also for all the information you left on my talk page. That's exactly what I need. I will take a close look at this. Thank you also for your willingness to answer any remaining questions. That's very kind of you. I appreciate your support. All best, Socialsciencenerd (talk) 15:58, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi CommanderWaterford, Thank you very much for sharing the Getting help table with me. This has been extremely useful. (And very well presented.) I have already found answers to a number of questions I had.
May I ask you for your advice on how to create new articles? When I wrote my first text on the Logic of appropriateness, I had no clue about the most appropriate way to “upload” it. So I simply created and published the new article - and I was fortunate that it was evaluated and rated only a few days later. For my second piece (Draft:Emotional choice theory) I took what I thought was the more appropriate route: I put together a draft and submitted it for review. But I was then informed that the review process could take 5 months or more.
Now I am working on two more new articles. What would you say is the most sensible/helpful way for me to upload them: Should I just publish them as new articles straight away? Or should I submit them for review (and accept the wait time)? Or is there perhaps a better, third route that I am not yet aware of? Sorry for stealing your time with such a long-winded query. I would be very grateful for any advice that you may have. Thank you for your time! All best, Socialsciencenerd (talk) 08:37, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Socialsciencenerd I suggest creating your articles directly in main space as you gave done with the first one, as far as I see your drafts have good qualities and our New Page Patrollers do review the article as well. Right now I do not see any reason for you to go the AfC (=Draft) Way. CommanderWaterford (talk) 08:44, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi CommanderWaterford, Thank you very much for your speedy reply and your advice! I will create future articles directly in the main space, then. Thanks also for your kind words. I'll do my best to try and maintain a decent quality in the future. Have a good weekend! All best, Socialsciencenerd (talk) 09:21, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Hello CommanderWaterford, Sorry to bother you again. Can I yet again ask you for your advice?
Thank you for your remark that the article still needs additional categories. I have just had a look at the WP:CATEGORY page, which was helpful. Out of the top of my head, I would put down the following additional categories:
Category:Social sciences| Category:Psychology| Category:International relations theory
Do you think these categories would be appropriate? Or are they too broad and general?
Alternatively, I could also put down some more specific categories, such as:
Category:Decision theory

Speedy deletion nomination of TheViper
Hello, I see you have marked TheViper for speedy deletion as promotion. As I stated in the talk portion of the article I am working on adding articles for other players and tournaments for this game. I do not think this constitutes "spam" or promotion of an individual. I am creating a branch of articles similar to those see in League of Legends in esports. With relevant individuals and tournaments. In fact I am working on the Hidden Cup Series and the winner of that tournament a player known as Hera. I would appreciate it if you refrained from deleting these articles unless you can explain why this esport is not relevant while others are. Thank you Youngdrake (talk) 05:11, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Deletion of South City Hospital Article.
Hi,
I see you have flagged my recent article for deletion. The page is not unambiguously promotional, because I am in no way related to the hospital. I am simply undergoing treatment there and was surprised to see that there wasn't any article on this hospital, even when it is one of the most popular one in our city. I am happy to make any edits if you think it sounds promotional, but I have followed a very neutral tone. Your guidance will be appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you in advance for your help!

- Sure @Cereal Tester - The problem in your draft is not the lack of reliable sources but of independent ones - all sources are too closed related to the subject of your draft. CommanderWaterford (talk) 18:51, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Contesting Speedy Deletion: Goodberry's Frozen Custard
ello, you recently marked a new page I added for speedy deletion and I was wondering why? It doesn't appear to meet the criteria you applied to it for being unambiguous advertising unless acknowledging the place exist is advertising. I will admit I don't know much about the place and they don't have much info online besides their websites and references to them on reddit, hence why I marked it a stub, but I don't think policy for stubs on businesses is to yeet them from wikipedia for all time. - Hi, @Powerful Karma Sure, now you only need to provide sources which are accessible for this claim (did you even follow for example the google scholar link in your draft?) then I am sure another reviewer will accept your draft. I suggest improving the sources in the draft instead of trying to convince me to accept your draft. CommanderWaterford (talk) 08:26, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- I allowed myself to add the necessary sources and approve lastly your draft. CommanderWaterford (talk) 09:30, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your service and I still hope for a way forward
I'm really shocked and surprised and hurt by seeing your block and the discussion around it. Thank you for the good work you've done here and the energy you've invested into keeping this project afloat, when we're so dangerously close to sinking. As an occasional AfC reviewer looking to step up their game, I'm really afraid that you are correct here. We can't lose you over something so stupid and small. You make such a big impact.
But in order for you to come back, you need to admit that you were wrong about some copyright things. I imagine you felt piled-on, attacked and disrespected after the number of hours you put in. But I think if you calm down, read some policies thoroughly and think about things dispassionately, then you will see some copyright issues with the content you have translated/written. It will be an enormous loss to the community if you can't just learn to add some extra steps to your writing/reviewing and put your talents back to work at AfC and elsewhere. I can't imagine it's worth it to you either when you must have very strong feelings and passion towards this project you've worked so hard on.
In any case, one of the dangers of having a Pareto principle on steroids (on most parts of the site I reckon it's not 80/20, but 90/0.01) is that people burn out quickly and magnificently. If this really is the end for you, then all of our readers unknowingly appreciate your service and many of the writers of pages you've patrolled and AfC drafts you've helped at appreciate your service. And finally, I appreciate your service. — Bilorv (talk) 14:01, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Take a break, think about what happened, and maybe see you again in a year or two? I'd be happy to offer my mentorship here if it would be of any use. - We never came across @Jimbo Wales but I - 90,000 Edits in half than a year, one of the most 500 active editors here, have been blocked now by what I call a mob or witch hunt and I honestly think you should be aware of this. I made some mistakes in tagging translated pages and my NPP and AP Perms were immediately revoked by an Admin overnight but what followed was an unworthy witch hunt like in the middle ages. CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:04, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- I do think that ANI thread was closed quite hastily. I don't see anyone as "out to get you" though - there were serious concerns about your editing that you didn't satisfactorily address. I would encourage you to return here at some point, but to heed the community's concerns and slow down. NPP is certainly going to feel the loss of one of our most active reviewers. Elli (talk | contribs) 21:30, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Elli Thank you for your kind of words, I was also kind of surprised that it was closed that quickly, then I saw who did it and I was not surprised any more. No, I will definitely not come back, there will be no unblock request. As I said - if this is the "Wikipedia community" what I saw today then at least I for myself do not want to have absolutely nothing to do with them. My goal was to provide free knowledge for everyone but not of the cost of an insulting mob who organize a pre-planned witch hunt. CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:39, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I do hope when reading the long thread you saw my comments about hoping the community will welcome you back in time (if that's what you wish), and my subsequent reply to Vaticidalprophet. It's an extremely long thread and it can be unpleasant to read many people calling for sanctions against you, so I understand if you haven't and/or if you don't wish to. If you haven't yet, maybe after a break or when you've had time to clear your head you'll wish to, in which case you can ctrl-F for "However I would like to emphasize to CW that". Be well. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:58, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Well, that's an unfortunate edit conflict. There is no technical way to delete an account on Wikipedia, as attribution must be retained for copyright reasons. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:59, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Yes @GorillaWarfare, very unfortunate. Anyway thanks for your kind words. But I definitely retire from this project if this is what Wikipedia calls "the community". CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:05, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
I find it extremely disappointing that you have chosen by your behaviour to insist on leaving the project. I have almost alwasy found your editing to be collegial, though there have been times I have chosen to ignore your behaviour (yes, towards me too, and even today), albeit calling you out on it in the past. I am sorry to lose the collegial editor. Losing the abrasive editor, despite it being a minority of your behaviour, is a different matter. I wish you had chosen to modify the behaviour instead of effectively committimg Wikipedia Suicide by ANI. I'm sorry you have chosen to quit a valuable hobby. - Well @Timtrent - I did not open this ridiculous ANI Thread and as far as I remember I did not see any support from you for your "collegial editor" at all - well, perhaps you guys now will reach the backlog of 10,000 AfC Drafts. CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- You almost insisted upon it being opened by someone. You seem incapable of taking advice to remain calm, and to step away from combat.
- As for not noticing support that is because you appear to read selectively. The backlog will rise, yes. And then it will lower. I am not going to get into an argument with you. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 21:43, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

- @CommanderWaterford: I do not understand. Why are you blocked? StarshipSLS (Talk), (My Contributions) 23:16, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- StarshipSLS, Versace's explanation of it got reverted by CW in his last edit before talk page access was revoked, so I'm afraid your soi-disant mentor was busy trying to make sure you didn't get an answer to that question rather than helping you out as he'd agreed. The background for the block is here. I understand you have another mentor, and I hope he can help you out; I'm unsure about everyone else CW 'adopted' and hope they're okay. Vaticidalprophet 07:56, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Theres no reason to be sure the commander wasnt trying to help his adoptees. Often a wrong or incomplete answer is worse than no answer at all. Despite his many strong qualities, CW clearly isnt yet great at self reflection, so it would obviously have taken him a while to compose a helpful answer to 'Why are you blocked?'. Grave dancing & kicking a man while he's down is unseemly and I hope you consider not posting any more nonsense to this page. FeydHuxtable (talk) 08:46, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Does this have anything to do with the message CW just sent me on Discord calling me a 'premature, wretched creature' or no? I was making a good-faith attempt to explain to Starship the background behind this situation and why he had received a 'ping to nowhere', as the previous explanation he was given was deleted without comment, as well as why CW would be unable to respond. I am unhappy CW has decided to respond to this by sending me vomiting emojis and accusing me of 'crying like a baby' when I'm disagreed with, but it's far from the worst thing I've gotten for disagreeing with someone on the internet. My goal here is simply to help out a confused new editor. Vaticidalprophet 09:00, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- FeydHuxtable, The only thing CommanderWaterford should have been doing on this talk page is filing an unblock request. Shouting about a cabal and reverting good faith warnings as "idle threats" is not an appropriate use of a blocked user's talk page, so I have removed access. CommanderWaterford, this means you will have to file a request at the Unblock Ticket Request System to get unblocked. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:44, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- @VP, the short answer is no, nothing directly to do with discord. @Ritchie, yes I saw that. Now TP access has been wisely removed, hopefully the good commander will soon be focussing their exceptional energy & good nature on other things, allowed to leave "with their pride and dignity intact", as per policy. FeydHuxtable (talk) 10:23, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

- @CommanderWaterford: I do not understand. Why are you blocked? StarshipSLS (Talk), (My Contributions) 23:16, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Whilst I believe the thread was closed too early I perfectly understand why Drmies had to do it. To be honest it was invariably going to lead there. Anarchyte isn’t one to be trifled with and CW should have known better than to irate them. CommanderWaterford was a productive editor with an attitudinal problem, which could have been easily corrected if he had listened more than he spoke. I also agree with Ritchie333's decision to revoke tp access because CommanderWaterford was indeed not using it correctly. Furthermore in as much as I appreciate the work they have done here I disapprove threatening administrators with ArbCom, Administrators here have dedicated their time, blood and sweat in order to serve the community and using ArbCom to threaten them is both unfair and intolerable. As of now it is my opinion that this is a lose-lose situation, we have lost a productive editor and they have lost the privilege to edit, editing here is a privilege and not a right. Having said, CommanderWaterford if you are reading this I do hope you reconsider your stance and come back a better you. Celestina007 (talk) 10:35, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Celestina007, I think it's a little unfair to say "Anarchyte isn't one to be trifled with". Rather, that Anarchyte was trying to explain the importance of WP:COPYVIO, one of the enyclopedia's longest and most important policies, and CommanderWaterford wasn't interested. He also started the ANI thread in attempt to defuse the situation and it appeared to have been started with the assumption that Anarchyte might be wrong and would welcome feedback. All of that is a good way for an admin to try and defuse a situation - admit potential fault, get third parties to have a look. That it ended up with CommanderWaterford being blocked is entirely the fault of CommanderWaterford. (COI note - I nominated Anarchyte for RfA). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:16, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ritchie333, Im sorry Ritchie333 and to Anarchyte, I worded that wrongly, i was trying to say exactly what you just stated above but I didn’t word it properly. My apologies to you both. Celestina007 (talk) 11:26, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

- Well, this is a shock to me. I understand the Commander can't respond here but he can read people's comments. He always responded politely to my notices that he had mishandled some page and that led to changes in his tagging behavior. I would have commented on the ANI case if I had been aware of it yesterday and am disappointed in the quick closure since the Commander & I had worked a bit together over 2021. But I hope he takes the criticism regarding copyright and attribution to heart and makes an unblock request at some point in the future. Liz Read! Talk! 19:34, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
