[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Chngbot", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it contains the suffix "-bot", which is generally reserved for authorized bot accounts. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 17:39, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
Paid editing / COI editing
[edit]Hello Chngbot. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Ajay Prabhakar, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Chngbot. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Chngbot|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Ravensfire (talk) 17:40, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- Ravensfire, i have not been paid in kind or cash to promote or disclose or highlight any work of Dr. Prabhakar. You should come up with evidence before you make such statements. Dr. Prabhakar has done amazing work and we feel it should be highlighted and known to the world. .In the true spirit of highlighting information in Wikipedia ,we have tried to provide links even from the navy which you have discarded which you have discounted and removed and treated as junk. I do not understand the reason why you should remove references without justifications or with justifications like marketing fluff (when these are all justifiable and respected newspapers or media outlets). Please use better comments as they sound unprofessional. You have said that speaker bios are not relevant. Please do verify links and respect the institution it is referring to. Just because it is dead doesn't mean it did not exist. As a public servant it is really excruciating that Wikipedia is now no longer the same as it used to be.
