WikiProject L&O feedback
[edit]Hello, I am a postdoctoral associate at Murray State University and currently I am researching the same type of floodplain forested wetland system that Dr. Sharitz specialized in. I received my PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from Clarkson University (NY) and my research has focused on the ecology of restored wetland ecosystems and wetland assessment using remote sensing techniques. At the moment I am studying the hydrology and biotic communities of restored bottomland hardwood forested wetlands in Kentucky.
I enjoyed reading your article and how you presented Dr. Sharitz's life and career. It must be challenging to try to summarize a person's life and also to build a Wikipedia article from scratch, so great work. I have a few suggestions for improvement:
- The lead section could be condensed a bit. I think the first two sentences could be combined to convey that she was a wetland ecology that specialized in studying these specific plant communities.
- I like that you managed to find and add an image. What a difference that makes. I am not familiar with writing biographies on Wikipedia, but if you can get a photo of her, that would be wonderful.
- Under the Academic Background I would write out the name of the school where she adjuncted Odum School of Ecology
- The link to your third reference does not work. The doi works, but not clicking the title. Try to fix that if you can
- Your third reference, EAS's Resolution of Respect if a better reference for her academic background than your first reference, which is someone's blog entry. I would minimally use the blog entry and instead use more credible sources like ESA. I would use the blog entry to support your later claim that she influenced many students in her life
- You mention that "She also led the Division of Wetland Ecology and Ecological Stewardship Program", but I think it needs to be clarified where that was, what school/department
- I recommend cutting down her various advisory roles to only the most important or longest ones. Some of them she served for only one term. Edit here.
- The research section needs a little work. I would elaborate here. If you have time, skim some of her most influential articles and summarize the main findings and cite those. You are on the right track, but it needs more detail.
- I recommend cutting down the list of notable publications to maybe 3 or 4. Her page in her affiliate university has a good list.
- Add citations to each award she received
- For her personal section, I don't think she is survived by her husband. It is unclear, but to me, the reference you provide suggests that they are both deceased
Great work! Keep going. KHillWells (talk) 16:23, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
