Global perspectives task force
[edit]Hi Benzocane! Thanks for making me aware of the task force you are planning to create. I think it is a great idea. In particular, I think the inclusion of non-U.S. media sources is particularly important to ensure that Wikipedia reflects a truly global perspective. Please let me know if and when the task force becomes official, and whether I can help with its establishment.--Mackabean 19:17, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi Benzocane. Thanks for informing on your newly planned project/task force. Also, thanks for your flattering words. Personally I think an actual project would be a good idea. Inform me on my talk page where you have listed the proposal and I will vote for it. I would also be willing to help set it up. If you are interested I know some wikipedians who would be able to help. --Random Say it here! 20:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up. I left a note on the CSB talk page. Cheers! Geo Swan 18:07, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Biography Summer 2007 Assessment Drive
[edit]WikiProject Biography is holding a three month long assessment drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unassessed articles. The drive is running from June 1, 2007 – September 1, 2007.
Awards to be won range from delicacies such as the WikiCookie to the great Golden Wiki Award.
There are over 110,000 articles to assess so please visit the drive's page and help out!
This drive was conceived of and organized by Psychless with the help of Ozgod. Regards, Psychless Type words!.
Another task force
[edit]Hi Benzocane! I like your idea of a task force dedicated to organizing environmental information within entries. For example, I have been surprised at how little information there is on the environmental records (both negative and positive) of major corporations. I would definitely support the creation of a task force within the Wikipedia:WikiProject Environment to address that gap. Perhaps you should make a note on the talk page of that project and see how other editors react? In the meantime I will try to think of other Wikipedians who might be interested. Thanks for reaching out to me on this. I think it is a good idea. :) --Mackabean 02:00, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Benzocane! I am very pleased that you reached out to me and gave me this opportunity. I am very eager to lend a hand and to help create this new task force. I am here and ready to help! :) Psdubow 01:12, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
DYK
[edit]-- Great job! Smee 07:55, 7 June 2007 (UTC) .
- Is this your first article to appear at Wikipedia:Did you know ? Smee 08:15, 7 June 2007 (UTC).
DYK optional userboxen
[edit]If you wish, you can now utilize the userbox: {{User DYK|1}}, and the number can be adjusted to show number of created articles appeared on DYK, which looks a little something like: {{User DYK}}, (plus the number inserted).
You can also utilize the user box {{User Did You Know}}, by inserting {{User Did You Know|Energy Lobby}} on your userpage. Yours, Smee 19:51, 7 June 2007 (UTC).
Your invitation
[edit]Hi, thanks for your invites. I am afraid I may not be able to contribute much to this as my priorities are elsewhere at least for a good while. Shyamal 04:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Environmental-records task force
[edit]You wrote (on the Discussion page @ my User Page): "Hi, Joel! A few editors are getting together to create a task force with the goal of making sure environmental records of corporations and politicians are accurately and efficiently represented in relevant entries. Given your interests, I thought I'd bring your attention to this project. If you think it's a good idea, please consider chiming in on the discussion page. We hope to have a task force page up soon and of course would love to have you involved!"
I appreciate the invitation. I think you're looking into something pretty worthwhile. For example, Denis Hayes, a leader of the original Earth Day and an environmental lawyer, worked in the solar industry until, after the 1980 U.S. presidential election, Ronald Reagan took the federal support for the development of that industry. In my estimation, that was a big set-back. Of course, countless other unfortunate choices and policies have occured since then.
I'm not sure I'm in touch with a lot of the sort of info you want. I might be able to help generate some points and questions useful for probes. I'm primarily a "ways and means" person interested in the nuts & bolts of postive options — with respect to choices, lifestyles, community projects and institutions, etc. Joel Russ 20:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Environmental task force
[edit]Thanks for letting me know about it. I definitely think that Wikipedia has the potential to be a great resource on things like this and can have a great positive impact. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to participate since I won't be able to spend as much time on Wikipedia for at least the next couple months, but I'll definitely look into it and do what I can. Seeking your advice
[edit]benzocane,
First let me say thanks for your exemplary contributions to the ERTF. Concise, informative, elegantly styled. Thanks in no small part to your help, the environmental record task force has made a strong start.
I write you today because I have been thinking about creating a new task force under the aegis of Wikipedia: WikiProject Politics.
I'm still learning my way around WP, so yesterday I somewhat rashly (I was just trying to get my thoughts down on paper, so to speak) created a task force page--I think it expresses the basic idea well enough.
My question: I would like asap to propose this idea on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Politics page. Do you have any thoughts as to
- improving the basic concept for the task force prior to said proposal
- whether you or other editors might be interested in joining?
I'll watchlist your talk page, so please feel free to respond either here or on my own talk page.
Very best regards,
Cyrusc 21:51, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- thanks for your prompt and encouraging response. I will post the proposal right away.
Cyrusc 22:13, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Nuff said

Portal peer review
[edit]Thanks for helping out with the environment task force. I would like to ask you to do a portal peer review for Portal:Environment, a portal I started a few days ago. OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:49, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Task Force Invitation
[edit]Thank you for your kind invitation to work with the Environmental Record Task Force. For the time being, at least, I have to decline. I'm in the middle of several demanding projects outside of Wikipedia. I do hope to start some articles on significant environmental organizations not presently covered; that will probably be my main area of concentration for environmental work in Wikipedia over the next few months. I would like to thank your work and effort on the Environmental Record Task Force. Hopefully this will increase the environmental awareness in Wikipedia. Please accept this barnstar as a reward for your efforts. OhanaUnitedTalk page 06:20, 4 July 2007 (UTC) |
Environmental Record vs. Environmental Criticism
[edit]Hi. Thanks for the note, but I respectfully disagree. I have restored "criticism" in order to make the article consistent with NPOV. The content of the section, at least at present, is specifically criticism, and should properly be identified as such. The label you propose puts a neutral spin on a specific point of view, and could lead a reader to conclude that it represents an overall picture of their environmental record, when there is no sourcing to indicate this is the case.
I was previously unfamiliar with the Environmental Record Task Force. It seems like a worthwhile effort, but also one vulnerable to a lapse into advocacy (see What Wikipedia is Not). If this is, indeed the terminology the task force is using in its other edits, they should perhaps also be reviewed, to ensure they do not inadvertently adopt a point of view.
Thanks for giving feedback during peer review for this portal. I have improved it and ready to take it to featured portal status. I would like to invite you to give some comments about this portal at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Environment OhanaUnitedTalk page 14:24, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

AfD nomination of Climate change denial
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Climate change denial. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Climate change denial (4th nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:07, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Research survey invitation
[edit]Greetings Benzocane-
My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:
https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss
Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.
This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.
If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.
Thank you very much.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
