Adoption Offer

[edit]

Hello, Aviation Ace. I see you're looking for adoption. I've been around on Wikipedia for more than a year now, and I have a pretty good idea of how things work. I spend the majority of my time here trying to help new users learn the ropes, so if you have any questions, post them here or on my talk page, and I'll be glad to help. —PurpleRAIN 19:03, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Signatures

[edit]

First of all, you can sign your name on any talk page just by putting four tildes at the end of what you write, like this: ~~~~. They will automatically be converted into your name and the date, and your name will be a link to your user page. If you want to customize your signature, like I have, you will need some knowledge of HTML and CSS (languages used for web page design). You click on my preferences at the top right of any page, put the code to be used for your signature in the Signature box, and make sure the Raw signature checkbox is checked. Then the next time you use the ~~~~ for your signature, it will be the customized signature.

If you don't know HTML or CSS, or don't feel like you have the time or ability, I'd be happy to help you customize your signature. Just tell me what you'd like it to look like. You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Signatures more more information and some guidelines on what should/should not be included in a signature.

I hope that helps. Feel free to ask any other questions on this page or on my talk page. —PurpleRAIN 15:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Signature options

[edit]

Here are some options for your signature. Pick which one you like, and then view the source code. Copy the code for your choice, and follow the directions in my last post to paste it into the Signature field in your preference page. Let me know if you had something else in mind or if you're having trouble getting it to work. And don't forget, whenever you post a message on a talk page (including mine), use those 4 tildes ~~~~ to automatically sign.

If you want to test your signature to see if it works, edit any page (like this one, for example), and just add ~~~~ to the end. Then click the Preview button, and scroll the page down until you see your signature. Then you can just click the Back button on your browser to not save the changes.

Here are the options I came up with:

Option 1: Amber Hawk
Option 2: Amber Hawk
Option 3: AmberHawk
Option 4: AmberHawk

Enjoy! —PurpleRAIN 22:33, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your username

[edit]

If you want to go by Amber Hawk instead of Aviation Ace, you can request a name change at Wikipedia:Changing username. Just click the link and follow the directions on that page. If you intend to be referred to as Amber Hawk on Wikipedia, then it's probably a good idea to request a name change so that people don't get confused. —PurpleRAIN 22:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Thx

[edit]

Guess what? I just took an HTML and CSS online tutorial! I'm not really that good but I have a basic idea. Thx for helping me the name. I sent in a request for a change of username too. Q: Can I use your "Leave a new message" thing as template for one of my own?

Yeah, sure, you can use anything on my page. Technically, you don't have to ask, because everything on Wikipedia is under the GFDL, so it's free to copy. It's still polite to ask, though. Go nuts. —PurpleRAIN 18:49, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder: Sign your posts

[edit]

Don't forget to add the four tildes (~~~~) when you post on a talk page. It helps to know who's making the post, and it's also helpful because it provides a link to your user page, so I can respond. Happy editing! —PurpleRAIN 18:51, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

Hi. I realize I haven't done much in the way of adoption -- I figured that you'd come to me if you had questions. Sorry if that didn't work out for you. Anyway, I'm likely to be less involved at Wikipedia, so I'm stepping back from the adoption thing for a while. If you still feel like you need adoption, head back to Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user, where there are several willing adopters who'll be able to help you. Thanks. —PurpleRAIN 15:47, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
