A tag has been placed on John Tilley (Pilgrim), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable. If you can indicate why John Tilley (Pilgrim) is really notable, you can contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on Talk:John Tilley (Pilgrim), explaining how John Tilley (Pilgrim) is notable. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, article #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Elomis 07:15, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have made about 2600 edits to Wikipedia. Congratulations on over 1180 edits yourself! Here is a website to keep track of your edits. This is for your account. To view mine, just change the name in the address. (By the way, I created some new articles.)

http://tools.wikimedia.de/~interiot/cgi-bin/Tool1/wannabe_kate?username=Abeg92&site=en.wiki.x.io

By the way, thanks for the Wakkawakkajuju thing.

Abeg, I need your attention on the following users: User:Birdman1 and User:Leo628. I can tell you who they are later. Look at their contributions. Birdman1 started a new article. We really need to give Birdman1 a comprehensive tour (to signatures, preferences, watching pages, manual of style, basic reverting, 3RR, edits, userboxes (?), admin privileges, etc.)

WOW! Good job with your edits on March 3 and 4th! I learned some stuff from your edits and new comments! Thank you!

Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, Abeg92, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Admin coaching, etc.

[edit]

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    07:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to ID Media

[edit]

When an article has been tagged for speedy deletion, and the original author blanks the page, this is generally considered to be, effectively, a surrender to the deletion. Rather than restoring the article with the old db tag, the appropriate response is to replace the bank page with the template {{db-blanked}}, which basically translates to: "Author has blanked the page - go ahead and delete it." Fan-1967 18:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I figured that's what you were doing. Just wanted to let you know that's the one time when a blanking should not result in a simple revert. If the second-to-last version has a db tag on it, check the history and see if the blanker was the original author. If so, mark with the {{db-blanked}} tag (not to be confused with {{db-blank}}, which is a totally different tag) instead of restoring. Fan-1967 18:14, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Abeg92, WOW! Congratulations! I wish I had a barnstar before you. You are doing so much better than me. Good job, keep it up and keep on editing profusely. :) -- A. Wang (talk/contrb.) 00:00, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abeg92. I took a quick look at Team environment. A few comments. First if a Prod notice is removed you should not replace it. Once a prod has been challenged - for example by being removed - it should not be replaced. Second, you don't give a reason in the Prod notice why the article should be deleted. Giving a reason based on specific policies the article violates is always a good idea. Finally if a Prod is challenged, you should take it to AfD. We don't usually delete articles that have been through prod without an AfD discussion.

All that being said, it is clearly nonsense and I have deleted it on that basis. If you find nonsense articles like this in the future the best thing to do is to tag it for speedy deletion with {{db-nonsense}}. Thanks, Gwernol 02:45, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your recent help on California Gold Rush

[edit]

Thanks for your recent help reverting vandalism on the California Gold Rush article. As you may be aware, the California Gold Rush article is set to be the Main page Featured article in about 48 hours, beginning at midnight UTC, February 14, 2007. You are probably also know that Main page articles typically undergo substantial vandalism beginning about now, peaking during the Main page appearance, and continuing for some days thereafter. Assistance from all who have helped in the past with this article is very much appreciated during these next five days or so! NorCalHistory 23:53, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reversions and {{uw-test1}}

[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism to Fatty acid. Just one minor nit to pick. Given the contributed content ("so and so is a big fat whore...") I don't think that using {{uw-test1}} is at all appropriate. I mean, I'm all for being gracious, but saying "thanks for experimenting" for inserting blatantly defamatory content isn't the right message at all. Just my two cents. Waitak 06:40, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting perspective. I've considered the use of those templates, and I do think I will try to be more conscious about that. WP:LAVT defaults to test1, so when I see an empty IP talk page I just go with that. Abeg92contribs 06:47, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for so diligently reverting my user page during I.P. 64.230.16.82's recent vandalism spree. I'm not sure how you picked up on it before I did, but again: thanks very much. This guy (or gal I suppose--who knows, right?) really seems to have it in for me, but hopefully by the time his block expires he'll have moved on to other things. What a loser. Could you please kindly provide the diff's where this IP addressed vandalized William S. Burroughs? The only edits I see by this IP address on that article are these:

  1. [[1]] where I noticed that there was a problem with a section header & I immediately fixed it without looking at what was showing in the paragraph below
  2. [[2]] -where I find that the reason the section header was messed up was because a previous editor (user:162.127.217.184) had vandalized the page, so to remove the vandalism I reverted to the the latest edit before the vandalism, which was an edit by User:Canticle.

Please explain how my reverting vandalism can be classified as performing the vandalism myself, and provoked a Third level warning where no previous vandalism warnings appear associated with this IP? -- 63.224.137.164 23:05, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
