December 2023

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in King Thrushbeard, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. ~~mAyLiNgOeEd (Talk to me!) Please provide sources

[edit]

When you add or change content please provide a source (see for example your changes at Argus Panoptes which I reverted here. Paul August 15:43, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please provide sources!

I've removed these edits at Persephone, because no sources were given for the add content. Again please provide sources for your edits. Paul August 15:28, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Anthony E. Pratt, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mystery. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 17:47, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pipes and redirects on Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Aalazaro, thanks for your work. One small thing about piping: it is quite unnecessary to write root with a pipe |, as root gives the same result, possibly more efficiently, and certainly more compactly. If you wanted the result roots, this can be written more simply and again probably more efficiently as roots. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:32, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your edits to Hansel and Gretel‎, but please don't use italics around the titles of stories and similar short works. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles of works for detail. In general: italics are used only for long works such as whole books and movies, while quotation are used around short works or parts of works, such as stories and chapters. Gawaon (talk) 14:35, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, as Chiswick Chap already pointed out, you should never create piped links of the form bread – just bread works just as well and is way more editor-friendly. Likewise, piped links are rarely needed for plurals – just write windows instead of windows. And, if a redirect already leads to the correct destination, there is absolutely no reason to use a piped link instead. Gawaon (talk) 14:39, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lorenzo Mattotti, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Freedom philosophy.

And Then There Were None

[edit]

Hi, please don't spend more time on this plot. You may not be aware of WP:NOVELPLOT. Plots are deliberately kept short, generally to under 700 words, as excessive detail and bloat reduces readability. Wikipedia's plots are intended to briefly summarise the story, not to reproduce every event and detail. Your edits make the text far, far too long, and I'm afraid I'll have to revert. Sorry. MichaelMaggs (talk) 10:35, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"If if ain't broke, don't fix it"

[edit]

Hi, just to let you know that WP:PIPE, advice on how to use piped links, states the following in terms:

First of all, keep links as simple as possible:

 • Avoid making links longer than necessary:

☒N President George Washington

checkY President George Washington

☒N Mozart

checkY Mozart

Unnecessary piping makes the wikitext harder to read.

I've reverted at least one of your recent edits which didn't follow that wise instruction. There are many things on Wikipedia that urgently need fixing. Links that already work are not in that category: they should be left alone. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:14, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Further, I note that both I and another editor have ALREADY told you about this, so this is the THIRD TIME of asking. Please stop at once, your conduct is close to WP:DISRUPTIVE at this point. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:15, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
