Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 65.152.219.242. Place any further information here. _ Ok so my IP is not the IP that the message says is blocked? It says the rang "194.126.177.0/24" is what's blocked. that doesn't look like my address at all? I usually use a VPN but I disconnected to try and add a topic. I've literally never edited wikipedia before and so now I'm wondering if having used the VPN the first few attempts means my current IP is now blocked? idk. I just have thoughts on an article I'm not trying to actually edit the article itself. maybe I could email my thoughts and that could be posted in the forum? Also this policy means people probably can't edit from libraries right? that seems not ideal either. Should I make an account maybe? I'd prefer not to. thanks for your help!

Decline reason:

If your library uses a VPN, it won't be possible for anyone(with an account or not) to make edits from the library's IP address. Many public internet access points use VPNs or proxies for security, but it is not permitted to edit Wikipedia via one as they are used abusively. If you have no other means of internet access, and (as I assume) the library needs to have its VPN on, you will need to request an account via WP:ACC and then request an IP block exemption for it from a checkuser(see WP:IPECPROXY) and explain to them that you have no other means of internet access.

Note that article talk pages are not for general discussion of the topic, discussion needs to pertain to improving or evaluating the article. 331dot (talk) 13:16, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@331dot @http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:331dot no I'm not at the library I'm just confused what the problem is. I'll wait a week and see if I get auto unblocked ig? I've read all the unblock articles and it doesn't sound like I have any other options? My Ip isn't blocked when I check it on the blocked users page so this doesn't make sense to me.

Typically I use a vpn on my personal computer on a public not secure network. When I initially tried to edit the topic and got the error message I disabled it and restarted my computer. I am not using a vpn. I am not at the library. I don't understand what I need an exemption for. And I think I understand the purpose of talk pages. I'm not trying to just make a comment. There's an article I think is super biased and I was going to say that and give context and reasons why.

But idek if you can see this message? I can't reply to your comment.

My current plan is to resubmit an unblock request in a week if I remember. It sucks that I'll apparently still be blocked even if I made an account? How do I know how to find a network or device that's allowed? Would I be able to use my phone data logged in but not my computer? that seems weird.

I've literally never made an edit before. and this computer hasn't either I don't think. idgi fr lmao.

Yes, you correctly replied. If you made an account, try requesting unblock from your account. There is no block visible for me to remove here; that's usually an indication of a VPN/proxy in operation. If you turned it off, did you clear your browser cache?
Note that Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources say about a topic. Any bias in sources will be reflected in Wikipedia. Sources are presented to readers so they can evaluate and judge them for themselves when determining what they think about what they read. Bias does not preclude the use of a source on Wikipedia, unless it is alleged that the source is so biased that they just make things up out of whole cloth. Wikipedia does not claim to be the truth, only that what is presented is verifiable. You are free to read an article and disagree with all of it. Errors in how sources are summarized should be discussed on the talk page. 331dot (talk) 14:06, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok thanks I'll give it a try. I'm sure it'll shake out.
definitely a sidenote but: I think telling me my reason for wanting to contribute isn't allowed is not a great thing to add to denying an unrelated unblock request.
It's just about how I'm phrasing it. It sounds like a permitted way to express the same idea might be: "the reliable sources currently used result in an article with a non neutral point of view. they represent one perspective on an extremely contentious series of issues, where there are "published official good sources" with extremely different conclusions and accounts on the same topic as the sources cited in the article. What I plan to do is suggest additional equally reliable sources with the goal of there ultimately being a better more complete article."
I really don't want feedback on this. I'm only letting you know because a younger version of me would have read your reply and assumed what I want to contribute wasn't allowed and given up entirely. When it seems like the only issue is I just don't know correct words to use for this space. 65.152.219.242 (talk) 14:33, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
