@Hmlarson: I may wish to join the task force at some point, yes. I also wish to improve the coverage of women's football but Wikipedia editing is a big world to find space to enter and make proper contribution. 314WPlay (talk) 19:20, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
Your Sandbox
[edit]...is a semi-public space for you to draft content before transferring it to an existing article, or even to create a draft. It will not be found by searches outside or inside Wikipedia, but it can be found by an editor looking at your contributions via View history. Or just by going to any editors' User page and opening their Sandbox. David notMD (talk) 09:50, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- @David notMD: OK, is that bad? Yes I've read something like that about the sandbox in one of the guideline pages. I don't mind if any editor sees my sandbox. I may use it for a proper purpose if I get around to drafting an article I think should exist. 314WPlay (talk) 09:55, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not bad. I just wanted you to know that nothing is private. Another common error by newbies is using their User page to draft an article, or treating it like their own social media profile space. David notMD (talk) 12:58, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- @David notMD: Oh thank you for letting me know and clearing that up. This is very helpful information (especially for me as a newcomer) and I understand better what exactly to use them for. If things are so secret/embarrassing I wish to keep private, I wouldn't type them up on a Wikipedia user page or sandbox. Thanks! 314WPlay (talk) 19:43, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- Lastly, you are not required to keep stuff on your Talk page (with a few exceptions. Some people keep everything, some 'delete' everything, and some archive the older stuff in their own archive. As with articles, 'delete' means clear the screen, but View history will continue to show a chronological listing of all changes. David notMD (talk) 21:11, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- @David notMD: It's anonymous so I don't mind my talk page. Anything else I need to know? I do have an idea but won't get around to creating an article for a long while yet. What if someone sees an article that I am drafting in my sandbox and then steals my idea? Also how did you find my page out of all users? 314WPlay (talk) 16:06, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Theft unlikely, as there is not money in it, and besides, anyone searching on a topic will not find what is in your Sandbox. As to finding your page, you asked a question a Teahouse. David notMD (talk) 18:40, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

A minor correction: sandboxes (and anything else in user space) are not hidden from Wikipedia's search if one includes "User" in the list of "Search in" namespaces[1]. They are supposed to be hidden from external searches, but that relies on those search engines following standard conventions – it's not something that Wikipedia enforces. I've heard reports of search engines and mirrors/forks that (intentionally or not) have included Wikipedia pages that they are not supposed to. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 03:17, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Question at Teahouse
[edit]If you will give me the name of the article where you posted a " long ago" question on the talkpage, I will have a look. Just answer me here, I have watchlisted this page, and will see your reply. I will try to help, if I can. Perhaps I can connect you with an editor who is famaliar with the topic, etc. Regards, Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 23:16, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Tribe of Tiger: thank you, that is very generous. It’s Lazarus Chakwera, and I want to see if we can find a picture of him that is acceptable for his page in the infobox. No conflict of interest as I am not connected to Chakwera or Malawian politics. Pictures have been included but later removed because of copyright issues I think? Articles on the elections he contested in 2014, 2019 and 2020 look strange with no picture of the candidate. 314WPlay (talk) 11:16, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- I have looked at Commons for a photo of him. No luck. Until an image is unloaded that does not have copyright problems, I am afraid I cannot help. However, given that he is now President, I suspect that someone will take a photo and upload it in a few months' time! Best, Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 20:39, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Tribe of Tiger: OK I'll wait for someone to take a photo of him. Thank you for being willing to look into this. He should have a photo, after all he is a head of state. 314WPlay (talk) 10:01, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

My belated welcome
[edit]Hey, I know it's too late to give you my welcome, but I don't want to lose the chance. I have been here for a while, so let me know if you need my help. Regards. --Mhhossein talk 13:16, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Mhhossein: Salaam and thank you so much. That is very kind and encouraging (especially from an Iranian). I’m still an utter newbie to this. If I have a question, can I
type it on my talk page and ping youask you on your talk page? Khoda hafez! 314WPlay (talk) 15:56, 18 September 2020 (UTC)- Salaam. You're welcome 314WPlay. Sure! You can go either way. However, taking your words to my TP page would increase the chance of it receiving a response by me. I would always be happy to help. Khoda Negahdar. --Mhhossein talk 12:32, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

- @Muninnbot: That's good to know. 314WPlay (talk) 14:46, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
I thought you would like to know that an image of Chakwera has been added to the article. I think it will be permitted to stay, if this addition follows the copyright rules of Commons/WP. (This is not an area in which I have knowledge.) At any rate, people are working towards getting an image into the article. Hope you are doing well! Regards, Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 22:35, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Tribe of Tiger: Wow that is some display resolution! Cool, hope it’s 4th time lucky for the picture to stay. Thank you - this didn’t come up on my radar as I’ve been thinking about it but wasn’t watching the page. What’s going on with the edit warring and addition then swift deletion of info? Stay healthy, editor (Was I supposed to choose a poetry-inspired username?). 314WPlay (talk) 07:14, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well, I did just want to reassure you that an image had been added, even with the bad resolution (which the editor apologized for), and that most likely, in one form or another, we should be able to maintain an image for this Head of State, fairly soon! So, if you have a sense of humor, you can consider it my way of saying "I told you so!" (Seriously, though, I did agree with you.)
- From my recent experience, the deletions had to do with unsourced edits saying he was "believed to have gotten some financial support for his Presidential campaign from one of his brothers-in-law." This is not something we can have in an article, without sources/references. The editor said "everyone in Malawi knows this". Where I live, this is called gossip, and much worse (like bullsh-t, sorry). How can everyone in a country know this for a fact? Everyone? Every person, every man, woman and child in the whole country? No way. Needs a reliable source, no matter how many people "know it."
- Per "poetry-inspired username", Yes, of course, you were supposed to go through all your old poetry schoolbooks, to chose a username! We should teach that in WP Class 101. (Thanks for making me laugh!) Then, I guess WP could stand for World Poets. Or Weary old Poets. I find the various usernames to be a great deal of fun, and I wish I had made a list of the best ones that I have seen, over the years. Take care of yourself, too...Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 08:11, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Tribe of Tiger: All the political articles I read have a nice portrait of the person concerned. Yes of course, as you said, anyone could add whatever random nonsense and say "But everyone knows this!" I think we are entitled to add a humour (spelt this way on my side of the Atlantic) userbox to our user pages. Where is that, Tar Heel? Oh gosh, why didn't anyone tell me before? I threw my schoolbooks away decades ago. Brings up some really bad memories, so bad, the worst. When you're forced to study stuff like poetry it has a way of becoming boring. I'll keep a eye out for the funniest usernames. 314WPlay (talk) 14:59, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
