David Makinson

[edit]

Thank you for bringing the David Makinson article more up-to-date. However, you should know that all biographies of living persons need to have a least one cite to a reliable source that demonstrates their notability. Otherwise it will be deleted.

A link to his own personal website is a primary source and not considered a reliable, third party source.

Could you perhaps add some sources for the article?

Thanks. Escape Orbit (Talk) 13:48, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have written the update myself, being the subject of the article. I do not know of a third-party source that would be more reliable than the horse's mouth. Perhaps you couldd contact the writer of the original article, Goerge Kourousias, for his reaction. 2A01:CB04:40:DD00:A5CC:321F:A9AB:5FF8 (talk) 14:16, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, you should this regarding writing articles about yourself. Unfortunately, anyone can claim to be anyone on the internet, so claiming to be "the horse's mouth" doesn't really hold any authority. Ironically, you made this claim while being logged out, so you're really just an IP number, and I have to take your word for it that you are even editor 1003SStmdh, never mind David Makinson. This is why Wikipedia depends on reliable sources, rather than testimonies by anonymous users.
The original author has been notified, however, they have not edited Wikipedia for 16 years, so are unlikely to respond.--Escape Orbit (Talk) 14:34, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To verify that I am really David Makinson, you need only (a) check from my email address on my personal webpage and (b) send another email to that address for me to answer. That sort of thing is enough for my bank, so I trust it is enough for Wikipedia. If it isn't enough, and if George Kourousias does not respond (I have not been in contact with him for more than 15 years), you could contact my colleague Dr. Guillermo Badia at the University of Queensland for confirmation of my identity (I will now let him know that you may be about to do so). 2A01:CB04:40:DD00:A5CC:321F:A9AB:5FF8 (talk) 14:53, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Even if I was to do that, that would not establish your notability. Please read this link.. Wikipedia needs to use reliable sources, and strongly discourages the writing of autobiographies. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 16:12, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please yourself -- I have no particular interest in the matter and I am not going to waste my time filling in forms and building a dossier. Note however, that I was not tryin to introduce an item into Wikipedia -- it has been there for about fifteen years and is badly out of date. My purpose was simply to update it. If you prefer to keep an article that contains outdated (and hence inaccurate) information, that is your decision. 2A01:CB04:40:DD00:BD79:49FE:6279:DD16 (talk) 16:33, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The following volume, published by Springer in 2014, would seem to meet the requirements for a source. It consists entirely of papers discussing Makinson's contributions to logic.
