Daniel P. Ahn is an American economist.
Ahn graduated from Princeton University, where worked for John Nash, with an honors A.B. in economics and finance, and earned his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
Ahn is the Deputy Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of State, where he leads on a wide range of international economic and security topics relevant to U.S. foreign policy, including global economic growth, financial stability, sanctions, trade, energy and climate change. He also represents the Department at numerous bilateral and multilateral fora on economic and security issues.
He is also a Professorial Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, where he teaches graduate courses on energy economics, finance, and the economics of conflict and security.
Before entering public service, Ahn was the chief economist for commodities at Citigroup in New York, and also held senior positions at Citadel, Barclays Capital, and Lehman Brothers.
He has also held research and teaching positions at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, the National Bureau of Economic Research, Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, the Council on Foreign Relations, Georgetown University, and the International Monetary Fund.
He was featured in Forbes Magazine as one of 30 under 30 in Finance[1], and selected by ICAEW Economia as one of its 20 Future Stars in Finance.[2] He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
In 2012 Ahn testified before Congress about the job-creating implications of the shale gas revolution.
