User:TucanHolmes/Weasel words in summaries

This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
This page in a nutshell: While summaries can be more liberal with unsupported attributions (because they will be attributed in the main body being summarized), this is usually not the best option, and alternatives should be considered. |
Ask yourself: Couldn't you attribute that in a few words? (Otherwise, it makes the reader look for the attribution in text, which is onerous and can go wrong.)
Often occurs when criticism/controversy is summarized in the lead.
