My name is Teena Rowe and I attend the University of Pikeville College. I am a secondary education major and would love to coach softball when I graduate. I graduated valedictorian of my high school class and played three sports in the mix. I am currently employed at an accounting firm, which is where I stay outside of my classes. The good Lord above will always be number one in my life. My three pets are my best friends and always will be. As crazy and absurd as this may sound, I have a Jack Russell, a Chihuahua, and a Golden Retriever that would do anything for me and always make sure I have a smile on my face. I tend to get emotionally attached to the smallest things such as T.V. shows or animals I see on the side of the road without a home. I have a huge heart for everyone and everything and will always make myself last priority. My life goal is to live a happy and successful life and to have fun while doing it.
Teena Rowe, the exceptionally talented dancing star. At least, I wish anyway. Dancing is something I have always loved doing so I decided to make it my job as well. I am a licensed Zumba instructor and love every single minute of it. Zumba is a fitness class where people just dance to everyday music. I spend most of my time working on new routines and dance moves to teach my class and make it more fun each and every week. I love putting a smile on people’s faces, whether it is by dancing or just being an all around polite person. I’m not your typical “girly girl.” I love to fish, hunt, get muddy, and play any kind of sport. I take the saying “playing like a girl” to a whole new level.
I am actually very proud to say that I did not have to pay a dime towards my first year of college. Most people would seem to think that I got a lot of financial aid or loans but that was not the case. I earned enough academic scholarships my senior year of high school to get completely through the first year of college. I earned the WYMT Farm Bureau Scholarship for being able to be a variety athlete and still keep my GPA at a 4.0, Project Prom Scholarship, and another scholarship from Big Sandy for writing a poem. Receiving only one of those would have been a huge honor so I am very blessed to have received all three.
All my life, I have always been participating in sports. With that being said, I earned the 2013 Most Valuable Softball Player in the 59th District Tournament. One of my goals I pushed myself to conquer is to go all year without having any strikeouts, which is something that had never been done at my high school. I get ecstatic to know that I did achieve my goal and to show everyone that it is possible. I received the 2010, 2011, and 2013 All-District team award as well. I also participated in the state cross-country competition. No matter what place I came in, I felt as if I was on top of the world when I was finished.
