• Name of article: Hip-hop feminism
• Briefly describe why you have chosen this article to evaluate. I chose this article because I am interested in hip hop feminism as someone who listens to hip hop/rap music and identifies as a black feminist/womanist. I also picked this article because of how it shows how music (hip hop) can impact the lives of expose how feminists explain, conceptualize, and theorize about the Black/female experience concerning race, gender, sexuality, class, etc. while still enjoying hip hop music, which is seen as male-dominated and sexist, as well as the possibilities of having/making hip hop feminist music.

Lead

Guiding questions

• Does the Lead include an introductory sentence that concisely and clearly describes the article's topic? Not really because the first setence states what is a "hip hop feminist" rather than what is "hip hop feminism" itself.
• Does the Lead include a brief description of the article's major sections? No
• Does the Lead include information that is not present in the article? Yes, such as the information about intersectionality outright.
• Is the Lead concise or is it overly detailed? It is overly detailed and tends to repeat itself or gives more information than needed for a lead/introduction. Although the information is relevant, such as defining or giving background information about feminism, intersectionality, or the the issues with marginalized non-white women/people within the "traditional" feminist and women's movement.

• Is the article's content relevant to the topic? Yes
• Is the content up-to-date? Yes
• Is there content that is missing or content that does not belong? I think the information about intersectionality and feminism itself can be removed because hip hop feminism is just an extension/expansion of feminism or feminisms itself. Also, I think there should be more information about hip hop feminism and it's influence/impact of feminisms at large. Also, how does hip hop feminists/feminisms influence, impact, and contribution to hip hop artists and fans understanding of themselves, their work, community and feminist ideas.

Tone and Balance

Guiding questions

• Is the article neutral? Kind of but it has more direct quotes that make it seen more like an essay assignment rather than a neutral encyclopedia article about the information.
• Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position? Hard to decide because of the heavy use of quotes from sources that I am unfamiliar with. However, I am unsure whether some of the hip hop artists listed in the article would self-identify or have been identified as hip hop feminists.
• Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented? I think that throughout the article there is so much information using direct quotes that it doesn't really leave more space for topics to be fully discussed in a concise, neutral type way. I also am not sure what to do with the information about graffiti since I am unsure whether graffiti is a part of hip hop culture.
• Does the article attempt to persuade the reader in favor of one position or away from another? Not really.

• Are all facts in the article backed up by a reliable secondary source of information? Yes because most of the articles are from academic/scholarly texts but some articles are not reliable or proper secondary sources because they are articles from websites like Billboard and Ebony articles. However, these sources that are seen as reliable secondary sources of information are used as examples or used to pull quotes/information about musicals that can be considered hip hop feminists.
• Are the sources thorough - i.e. Do they reflect the available literature on the topic? Yes
• Are the sources current? For the most part yes, except one source is from 1999. And there are other sources from the 2000s and early 2010s. However, I think the sources are current because they are the sources that act as foundational texts for understanding hip hop feminism.
• Check a few links. Do they work? Yes

• Is the article well-written - i.e. Is it concise, clear, and easy to read? It is easy to read but it not really concise due to the overuse of direct quotes and repeating/irrelevant information makes it not very concise. Also, it's isn't very clear to the reader what hip hop feminism because the reader mainly has to the interpret what the quotes mean or their importance/takeaways, which is hard because to truly understand how the article is using this information would require reading or being familiar with the source material.
• Does the article have any grammatical or spelling errors? Yes, it contains grammatical errors.
• Is the article well-organized - i.e. broken down into sections that reflect the major points of the topic? I think that the article is organized in how it has broken down the sections and how the sections remain on top about the section's topic.

• Does the article include images that enhance understanding of the topic? Yes, it only contains 2 images.
• Are images well-captioned? Kind of. The images captions are just the title of the image without a description of what the image is.
• Do all images adhere to Wikipedia's copyright regulations? Yes
• Are the images laid out in a visually appealing way? Kind of because they are not many.

• What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic? There are conversations about the neutrality of the article as well as discussing how to bring in queerness or supporting claims about certain female artists being actual hip hop feminists rather than just women in hip hop. Also, suggestions about topics and material that should be discussed in the article as well as the presentation of the article information, such as information about intersectionality and feminism. Also, issues with the choices of hip hop scholars listed in article as to whether the scholars listed are relevant or notable for making contributing or interventions in the hip hop feminism.
• How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects? The article is rated C because of the quality and importance scale. It is apart of WikiProject Hip hop and WikiProject Feminism as well as other Wiki Education projects.
• How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class? N/A to the overall article since we haven't really talked about hip hop feminism in class.

Guiding questions

• What is the article's overall status? I think overall, the article is well-organized but it has to many direct quotes that are not written in the words of the person who read the source in a way that is neutral. Also, the Lead is not concise or completely relevant to the topic(s) discussed in the article.
• What are the article's strengths? The strengths is the sources that support or back the claim of the articles.
• How can the article be improved? I think by condensing the Lead in a way that is concise and refers back to the main topics of the article. Also, rewriting a lot of the direct quotes so that the article does not go against copyright infringement and reads less like a pulling quotes for an argument. Also, I think the article should be revised along with its sources to make sure that it is not making claims or infringing copyright concerning hip hop feminist.
• How would you assess the article's completeness - i.e. Is the article well-developed? Is it underdeveloped or poorly developed? I think that the article is well-developed in the outline and the information it presents. It just needs to be written in a way that does not pull so heavily from source materials to supports claims (i.e. heavy use of quotes) since that infringes against Wiki's copyright laws.
