Rigourous is a lengthened version of a stupid nickname, "Rig". It in its turn is a contraction of "Rigour Mortis". (don't ask)

My interests are myriad, but obviously some things are more attention grabbing than others. Probably my particular favourite is Ancient History, (such civilisations as the Sumerians, Assyrians, Hittites, Mitanni, Greeks, Etruscans, Romans, Persians, etc etc and in no particular order and up to the end of the Middle Ages). When I was young I disliked studying history after the invention of guns! (or more accurately after guns began to dominate the battlefield) While I now appreciate the importance and the interest of Modern History I still love the study of the ancient world.

I have a B.A. in Greek and Roman Civilisation, so I will probably try to focus my efforts there, although as an Irishman I might attempt to brush up some of the Irish history and geography articles as they are not as up to par as they might be. Hopefully I can help with photographs anyway.

Please feel free to leave comments and tips. I am new to the grand Wikipedia project and have much to learn. If I do have time to realistically contribute it will probably have to be in the company of mentors for a while at least. So, yeah, all helpful tips and constructive criticism welcome!
