Ismael Díaz de León (born 12 May 1997) is a Panamanian professional footballer who plays as a striker for J1 League club Sagan Tosu and the Panama national team.
Club career
[edit]Born in Panama City, Díaz made his professional debut for Tauro on 2 September 2010 against Alianza, aged just 13 years and 2 months.
He was announced as the first foreign signing of J1 League club Sagan Tosu, joining the club for the 2012 season.
International career
[edit]Diaz's first international match was a 2–1 victory against Mexico on 7 July 2013 at the Rose Bowl Stadium. In that match, he scored his first goal for Panama aged 16 years and nine months, and he remains the youngest goalscorer for his country.
On 10 October 2017, during the final qualifying match for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Diaz scored the game-winning goal against Costa Rica with three minutes left in the game, which combined with the United States' loss to Trinidad and Tobago, helped Panama qualify for their first ever World Cup, making him a national hero.
Diaz was named in Panama's 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and played all three matches in an eventual group-stage exit.
