Rekcahdam is the developer name of Roger Allan Hicks who is best known for his game projects rComplex[1] and Celestial Mechanica [2]. Roger attended Virginia Commonwealth University[3], majored in Computer Science and graduated in 2009 to later begin and participate in several software and music related projects.
Video Game Projects
[edit]rComplex
[edit]Roger's first game project to take notice is rComplex which he developed along side 3D artist Brian Terwilliger. The game started off as a sharing of ideas between Roger and his brother Ryan and spawned into an IGF 2010 entry eight days before the event. rComplex is listed as a on rails, platforming shooter on his site.
Celestial Mechanica
[edit]Roger later went to collaborate with Paul Veer (animator of Super Create Box) to create Celestial Mechanica[4]. The game is a side scrolling platformer with puzzle, exploration and action elements. A unique soundtrack was composed by Roger himself which attributes to the title’s popularity amongst the indie game community. He also collaborated with the acclaimed Laura Shigihara[5] on the music for the Japanese[6] version of the game.
Other
[edit]Rekcahdam's other game projects include Project I/O, Radial Gun and Wings of Apocalypse. Roger claims that Wings of Apocalypse, a top down bullet hell shooter, was his very first game project. He later moved on to developing puzzle platforming games like Project I/O and Stream. Radial gun is claimed to be only an experimental project.
Software Projects
[edit]PulseBoy
[edit]One of Roger's most recent software projects include PulseBoy[7]; a free web based musical sequencer that uses 8bit sounds and samples. The site itself has been designed to look much like the original Nintendo Game Boy.
Music
[edit]Rekcahdam is also known for his general interest in music and skill as a composer. He has been seen playing the drums at chiptune shows including Boston 8-bit's Penny Arcade Expo 2011 concert and has been known for composing the music for each of his game projects. He also has a collaborated with DJ illwill on an Hip Hop mix-tape titled “The Very Best” including artists Prince Ea and Starks!
