Young Peacebuilders of Turkey

Young Peacebuilders of Turkey has a world vision that tries to eliminate the socio-economic and political obstacles faced by young people.[1] Their platform is established on the idea that young people are the essential architects of sustainable peace, and they actively shape conflict resolution processes. YPT envision a future where young people have an equal say in their future as older generations, and where their collective power fosters an inclusive society built on cooperation, understanding and shared prosperity. Establishment

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2250 on 9 December 2015, which widely known as the Resolution on "Youth, Peace and Security".[3][4] It was considered as a ground-breaking resolution for its formal recognition of youth's role in the peacebuilding and violence prevention.[1] Resolution 2250 sets out the core pillars of Young Peacebuilders of Turkey to create a platform for the youth to actively participate in the peacebuilding processes.[5] In line with that, their peacebuilding activities seeks to improve economic development, education, social integration, gender equality, diversity.[6] Young Peacebuilders of Turkey started as an initiative in 2020 as the first initiative that is led by youth to make youth's work visible in peacebuilding and enhance their representation and participation.[7] As of February 2023, Young peacebuilders of Turkey is a registered non-governmental organization in Türkiye.[8]

Purpose

Young Peacebuilders of Turkey established around seven core principles.

  • Youth Empowerment: Empowering young people from different backgrounds to actively participate in violence prevention and peacebuilding processes.[2]
  • Creating Safe Spaces: Supporting the creation of safe spaces where young people can express themselves and ensure their social, cultural and political development.[2]
  • Supporting Vulnerable Groups: Increase the visibility of young people in vulnerable groups and to create public opinion for the development of inclusive policies.[2]
  • Local Peace for Global Peace: Supporting efforts at the local level to promote sustainable peace in societies, believing that local peace is the foundation of global peace.[2]
  • Civilian Projects for Peace: Developing civil projects aiming to improve the economic development, access to technological education and social integration of young people.[2]
  • Networking and Community Building: Providing young people with opportunities to create a common ground for dialogue, raising awareness of social peace, collaborating and sharing information.[2]
  • Dissemination of Peace Culture: Ensuring that young people take part in all stages of the peace process to construct a future shaped by freedom, dignity, and justice and where everyone is equal.[2]
