I'm interested in other cultures, countries, languages, and a wide variety of music. This includes the storied lives of many musicians. I've chosen to edit their biographies. I believe music is more than entertainment, and those musicians who leave a strong impact on culture, politics, and society as a whole and the way we view the world are those who most often are the ones I choose. In 2010 I began contributing to other-language Wikipedias.
I find, email, and ask each photographer (every time) to remove the copyright from each photo I request, and explain how they can adapt a Creative Commons license instead. If they agree and allow us a license (CC-BY-SA), they maintain the right to have their names and a photostream to be attached to each photo, no matter where it is used. I promise nothing, but for articles that are just in the Start stage, I ask the editors of the article to keep the photographer's name in the photo caption until it is being assessed as a GA or FA-ranked one. It does no harm to the article in progress, and for new photographers to Wikipedia, it allows them to have more exposure for friends, family, and prospective customers. Some people have given up book deals and more, in exchange for little more than hidden recognition of their own work here. I want them to see our appreciation for their support of the Wikipedia. For these reasons, I am what is called a Wikifairy or Wikignome; alongside editing, I create infoboxes, find photographs, copyediting, and a lot of work left by others who came before me. I'm mostly a janitor Wikignome.
I try not to start articles. I have done so, but seriously, if you haven't noticed, the number of unreferenced articles is astronomical. Because of this, I urge you, please help and join the Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced articles group here on Wikipedia! I used to maintain a list of photos of musicians that I uploaded via Creative Commons to Wikimedia Commons on my user page, but after uploading about 625 (very few are multiple pictures of the same person) I decided to place them on their own special page
Currently, the list stands at more than 1,200.
Tiny gallery of a few favorite musicians' photos I uploaded
Anyone wishing to learn the guidelines to upload photos for use in the Wikipedia may contact me on my talk page. I would still be lost if another editor didn't teach me- I'd be happy to help!
I'm happy to say quite a lot of my uploads appear on lots of the musician's portals! Most of the credit is due to User:Moxy, so the support and applause it all his, or the others who create them! Just a few that include my photo uploads:
