[edit]Between 1894 and 1914 the Great Triumvirate of Harry Vardon, John Henry Taylor, and James Braid combined to win The Open Championship 16 times in 21 years. Since then only two players, Peter Thomson and Tom Watson, have joined them as having won at least five titles.

Harry Vardon won the Open a record six times (1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911, 1914).

Francesco Molinari was the winner of the 2018 Open at Carnoustie. He is the first winner of a major from Italy.

Jordan Spieth was the winner of the 2017 Open at Royal Birkdale. He joined Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win three different majors before the age of 24.

Henrik Stenson was the winner of the 2016 Open at Royal Troon. He is the first winner of a major from Sweden, and won with a record score of 264 (-20).

Zach Johnson was the winner of the 2015 Open at St Andrews after beating Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in a 4-hole playoff.

Rory McIlroy was the winner of the 2014 Open at Royal Liverpool. He joined Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods (and since Jordan Spieth), as the only players to win three majors by the age of 25.
