Mario V. Mascioli (March 17, 1921 – January 15, 2005) was an expert of abrasives technology for over 46 years in the manufacture and distribution of abrasive and diamond blades.[1] Mascioli served on the chairman board of The Edmar Abrasive Company which was founded in 1953.[1] Mascioli served as the International President of the Abrasive Engineering Society.[1][2] He was also member of the Broomall Rotary Club, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the National Technical Conference of the Grinding Wheel Institute and the Masonry and Concrete Saw Manufacturers Institute.[1] Mascioli has contributed in the education and promotion of industry standards in the field of abrasives.[1]
Early life

Mascioli was born in 1921 in Philadelphia. He spent most of his childhood in West Philadelphia. He spent his early education enrolled in West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys and later attended Drexel University.[2]
Career
[edit]During his time as an adult “he worked for Westinghouse and for an abrasive products manufacturer before establishing Edmar Abrasive Co. in 1953.[2] The firm, which later moved to Andalusia, makes and distributes abrasive and diamond products used primarily in the construction industry.”[2]

Mario V. Mascioli married Gertrude Mascioli (1832–1891). Together, they had the following children[1]:

Mascioli died January 15, 2005 and was buried in Media, Pennsylvania.[1]
"Mario The Dragon" Statue
[edit]The Statue was dedicated to Mario V. Mascioli in December 4, 2002 by the class of 2002 for him being a member of the Drexel 100. It is located in the Middle of campus on the corner of 33rd and Market Street right next to the trolly stop at 33rd. The statue itself was made by “renowned Philadelphia sculptor Eric Berg.”(drexel.edu)[3] The statue of “Mario is 14 feet long, 10 feet high and weighs 4,100 pounds, on a 17-ton granite base.” (drexel.edu)[3] Noted by others to be very noticeable especially to people who have never been on campus before. This location often holds events that are sanction by the school.
