User:GooseTheGreat/Wikipedia vs. Other Wikis
Appearance
This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
As someone who's extensively edited other wikis, I've noticed several differences between Wikipedia and your average wiki. I've decided to document some of them here, but feel free to contribute if you'd like.

Comparison
[edit]- Content: This is the largest difference between Wikipedia and any other wiki I've seen. Obviously, as one of the most established wikis of all time, Wikipedia has some of the largest repositories of content to read and edit. (GTG)
- Policy: Wikipedia tends to be much more heavy handed with it's policies than your average wiki. An average wiki will usually only have a page or two of policies, depending on the size and administration. (GTG)
