Florida Panthers (2023)

[edit]

Reilly was one of five defensemen signed by the Florida Panthers on July 1, 2023, joining the team on a one-year, $1 million contract.[2][3] Reilly was a healthy scratch for the first ten games of the 2023–24 season, as Paul Maurice did not want to make any changes to his lineup through that point.[4] He made his season debut on November 6, playing on the third defensive pairing with Josh Mahura against the Columbus Blue Jackets.[5] While the Panthers had anticipated that injuries to Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour would leave them short on quality defensemen to start the season, the team soon found the position in surplus, and Reilly was placed on waivers on November 25. He appeared in only two games before the decision.[6]

New York Islanders (2023–present)

Reilly remained with the Islanders for the 2024–25 season, signing a one-year, $1 million contract on July 1, 2024.[7] Reilly left the Islanders' November 1 game against the Buffalo Sabres after hitting his head on the ice from a Jordan Greenway hit.[8] While being evaluated for his concussion recovery, echocardiograms located an undetected heart condition.[9] Although cleared by concussion protocols, Reilly needed surgery for the heart condition, which general manager Lou Lamoriello told reporters would sideline the player for months.[10] At the time of the concussion, Reilly had no points in 11 games on the season.[11]
