Holbrook railway station was the terminus point of a country rail line built for the locals to have access to the NSW rail network.[1] Located 411 km SW of Sydney as the crow flies it is a much longer 623km journey to arrive by train.[2]

A plain single sided platform was provided at the western end of the long rail yard for passengers. Being a line built for the conveyance of locally produced freight the yard area was significant consisting of various loading docks, storage buildings, an engine turntable and a grain silo complex.[3]
