From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'Composition CH-6' is an explosive mixture comprised of:

  • RDX
  • calcium stearate
  • polyisobutylene
  • graphite

It is commonly used in place of the explosive compound Tetryl because it has the same sensitivity and is less toxic, has a higher resistance to temperature, and a higher energy output. Composition CH-6 is manufactured by combining the ingredients listed above into a water slurry with the binder dissolved in a solvent. The solvent is then evaporated and the mixture collected, filtered, and dried. The final material is a fine, grey powder.
