Formation

[edit]
Tectonic Plate Convergence

The mountain range formed around 50 million years ago when the Indian and Eurasian plates collided. This collision also formed the Himalayas which is why the mountains closer to the Himalayas are similar in height. Usually, when one tectonic plate collides with another, one of them subducts or goes under the other one due to the difference in rock density. The Indian and Eurasian plates are two large land masses with similar rock density so the only way the pressure could be released was up which formed the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush mountain ranges.
