Busty Okundaye

Busty Okundaye is an engineer, general and strategic manager and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UGC Technologies Group.

Education

Busty is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T), where he earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration / Management (MBA / SM) from the Sloan School of Management[1] and was then a M.I.T – International Motor Vehicle Program (IMVP) Research Fellow. He also earned a Master’s degree (MSME) in Mechanical Engineering from the Tuskegee University, specializing in Spacecraft Dynamics and Controls with the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), on the Galileo Spacecraft[2]. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor’s degree (BSME) in Mechanical Engineering from Southern University Baton Rouge.and was then an Advisor, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Student Peer-Groups Economics and Political Science Teacher.

Career

He began his career on the College Graduate In Development (CGID) Fast-Track Program as a young engineer, right out of the university, at General Motors Corporation (GM), North American Operations, Michigan, U.S.A. He progressively held other positions at GM, including manufacturing engineer[3], R & D engineer and supplier development and management and administrator, etc. at the Chevrolet - Pontiac -Canada (GM CPC) Group Headquarters, GM Tech (R&D) Center in Warren, Michigan, Flint Assembly Truck and Bus Group,, GM Asia & Pacific Operations at the GM World Headquarters, Detroit, and GM Powertrain Headquarters, Pontiac, Michigan and GM China, etc.

Recently, Busty co-led on the establishment, development and operations of the Shanghai GM -- SGM, now known as: SAIC-GM: 上汽通用汽车, one billion, five hundred and twenty million dollars (US$1.52B)[4] automobile manufacturing plant in Shanghai, China. SGM was founded on a joint-venture agreement signed in a ceremony attended by the then Chinese premier Li Peng and U.S. vice president Al Gore on March 25, 1997[5]. Two vehicles (GM Buick Regal and Buick Century) manufacturing were initially fully (100%) localized in China by SGM. GM manufactured and sold over four million (exactly 4,040,789 units of) vehicles in China in 2017[6][1][7]. This means that GM sold one (1) vehicle every eight (8) seconds that year (2017) in China.

Busty got General Motors, World Headquarters, USA, global honor, Best-of-the-Bests Award, for the above-noted accomplishment on his successful co-championing of the project.

Two other projects that Busty co-led in China were the establishment of the sixty-nine million US dollars (US$69M) Pan Asia Technical Automobile Center (PATAC). And the other one that was approximately one hundred million dollars (US$100,000,000) initial investment[8].Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation - General Motors - Wuling (SGMW) Manufacturing Operations. The SGMW Spark compact car, transferred from South Korea on this project[9][10], was initially fully (100%) localized in China by SGMW.

Additionally, Busty is and has also been a Principal Managing Consultant to American Corporate Fortune 500 Companies and Wall Street Investment Banks and Private Equity Institutions in New York, USA and China; Large Chinese State-owned Enterprises (SoEs); major American, Asian, European Union (EU), etc. public and private medium-sized enterprises on Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), Engineering, Manufacturing, Technology / Transfer, and Knowledge and Products Domestication and Localization, and Strategic Management[11].H

He was also an Adjunct Professor of Management at University of Strathclyde, Scotland, U.K., and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, Global Graduate Business Schools, on Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) Programs
