Rangers Football Club is a football club based in Glasgow that currently compete in Division 3 of the Scottish Football League. The club's home is the all-seated 51,082-capacity Ibrox Stadium in south-west Glasgow. Rangers have a fierce rivalry with Celtic; the two Glasgow clubs being collectively known as the Old Firm.
Rangers was formed in 1872 and officially founded in 1873. On 14 February 2012, "The Rangers Football Club PLC" which was incorporated in 1899, went into administration. On 14 June, a Company Voluntary Arrangement was rejected, forcing the company into liquidation. On the same day, the club and assets were sold to Sevco Scotland Limited, which later became "The Rangers Football Club Limited" on 31 July. The relaunched Rangers unsuccessfully applied to be readmitted to the Scottish Premier League, but were accepted as an Associate member of the Scottish Football League on 13 July to play in division 3, and received full Scottish Football Association membership on (date).
Rangers have won 54 League Championships, more top-flight national championships than any other club in the world. They have won the Scottish League Cup 27 times – more than any other Scottish club – and the Scottish Cup 33 times. Rangers have also won seven domestic trebles, more than any other club in the world. The club awaits the conclusion of an investigation that may see titles stripped as a result of alleged rule breaking by use of dual contracts at the club, over a period from 2001 to 2010. In 1961, Rangers reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, becoming the first British club to reach the final of a UEFA club competition. They won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972, having been the runners-up in 1961 and 1967, and were also runners-up in the 2008 UEFA Cup Final.
