I was born on the same day that Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" was first published, in the same year that Sydney hosted the Summer Olympic Games, or, more simply, I was born four days after this professional road cylist. I was born in the best borough of the best city in the best state, or so I'd like to think. I have lived there for my entire life, apart from one year of my infancy, when I lived overseas for familial reasons. I lived in this neighborhood until the year Beijing hosted the Summer Olympics, and since then I have lived in a seaside neighborhood, though I tell people I live in this nearby and more recognizable location.
I went to an elementary school that shares its name with the surname of an NAACP co-founder (connection unknown). Then I took a test, since phased out by this institution, to get into a middle school named after a late astronaut and teacher, which I chose over another school named after a famous writer, which had its own admissions examination process. I took yet another similarly controversial test to get into a particular high school, which happens to be near the tallest building in the country. There, I was on a sports team for all four years; pre-season training camps were held upstate, while our home stadium was slightly unconventional. I played mainly in three different positions, though I wasn't very good, due to my short stature, among other reasons. I was also a copy editor for the school newspaper in my final two years and participated in an annual student-run production in my senior year. In the latter, it seems I took the expression "Break a leg!" a bit literally, which was amusing after enduring four years of a tough sport injury-free.
Like most high school students in my country, I underwent an exhaustive college admissions process, which involved taking and doing reasonably well on another similarly controversial test. After applying to ten institutions, I decided to take my talents somewhere close to home. Actually, even closer to home. I am currently pursuing a degree in this this field with a concentration in this sub-discipline. Outside of the classroom, I like to go fast on two wheels and compete for my university's team at the collegiate level and in local events. I am also involved in my university's unconventional marine vessel club, which competes in an annual competition.
