The 2019–20 season was the first in the history of Hyderabad Football Club. The season began on 27 August 2019 and concluded on 31 May 2020, with competitive matches played from October to February. The club ended their Indian Super League campaign in 10th place and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The club was founded after Pune City disbanded and the rights to the club were transferred to a Hyderabad ownership group. The majority of Hyderabad's squad came from Pune City, with 13 members of the squad having played with Pune City the previous season. Phil Brown, the last Pune City head coach, was also signed as Hyderabad's inaugural head coach. The club did sign new players who would go on to contribute significantly through the season, including Matthew Kilgallon, Giles Barnes, Néstor Gordillo, and Bobô.

Hyderabad began the season with a 5–0 defeat against ATK. From there, the club would go on to win just one match before Brown was sacked in January. Assistant coaches Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Xavier Gurri Lopez took over on an interim coaching basis till the end of the season, with Wadoo leading one match and Lopez leading five. Hyderabad's top scorer that season was Marcelinho, who scored 7 goals from 17 matches.
