David George Steell (12 May 1856 - 7 March 1930) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was the artist Gourlay Steell (22 March 1819 – 31 January 1894) who studied under William Allan and Robert Scott Lauder.

His mother was Jessie Anderson (c. 1832 - 31 December 1883) from Coupar Angus. She was the second daughter of David Anderson of Lambhill. Gourlay and Jessie married at Ballintuim Cottage in Blairgowrie, Perthshire on 30 September 1852.[7]

David George Steell was born in Edinburgh on 12 May 1856.[8]

He married Louisa Dunsmuire Stewart Murray (1867 - 9 December 1952) from Sydney, Australia. They married at 7 West Castle Road, Edinburgh on 30 April 1891.

He died at his home 6 Seaforth Terrace, Blackhall in Edinburgh on 7 March 1930.[9][10]

He was buried at Morningside cemetery on 10 March 1930.[11]

His estate was valued at £270, 13 shillings and 10 pence.[12]
