Tha Carter VI is the upcoming fifteenth studio album by the American rapper Lil Wayne. Scheduled for release on June 6, 2025, by Republic Records, it serves as the sixth installment of Tha Carter album series.
Background and promotion
[edit]After Lil Wayne said that Tha Carter V would be his final album, Young Thug announced that his debut album would be titled "Tha Carter VI", in honor of Wayne.[1] Due to undisclosed reasons, Wayne and Thug engaged in a feud. Their beef was tied up in Wayne's differences with his former record label owner, Birdman,[1] whom he later sued, saying he wasn't getting payed properly.[2] Wayne also got his legal team involved and Thug renamed his project to Barter 6.[3]
Tha Carter VI is a sequel to Tha Carter V, which was released in 2018. In an interview with Variety on July 3, 2020, Lil Wayne was asked which album from Tha Carter album series was his favorite, Wayne replied, "the next one", and refrained from going into detail.[3] I February 2025, in a commercial advertisement for Cetaphil, entitled "We Are All a Lil Sensitive", he hinted the album's release date towards the end of the commercial after joking about not being selected for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Confirmed by Republic Records to Rolling Stone, which was also kind enough to provide a pre-order link, Tha Carter VI is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025.[4][5]
