The type of keyboard
[edit]This template is being referenced as the standard keyboard layout, however it is not. If there are no objections by October 2nd 2006, I will modify this page to reference the fact that it is the IBM style layout, and create an Apple version of the layout. Ogredrew 10:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- I specified the kind of keyboard this is by adding that it is the IBM in the title. nice template --Anonymous 11:29, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- And I sharpened the specification a bit further. I think it's correct now. --Wernher 03:22, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- UK IBM keyboards are considerably different. I've added that it's the US layout. Hairy Dude (talk) 01:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- To all: In matter of the layout of the buttons (not the textual content on the buttons), it's the ANSI layout: See http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Physical_keyboard_layouts_comparison_ANSI_ISO_KS_ABNT_JIS.png RoestVrijStaal (talk) 14:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
"Wintel"
[edit]Wintel is not a standard term and is used to reflect a specific hardware manufacturer and software combo. This keyboard is really an IBM/Windows since there is no mention of intel on the keyboard itself.

ImageMap
[edit]This template should be an excellent convention to the mw:Extension:ImageMap. See Category:Wikipedia imagemaps for others. —Dispenser 02:34, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Anyone know why the imagemap doesn't cover all the keys, i.e. the F-keys and numeric keypad, etc, as well? --Wernher 03:22, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Huh?
[edit]On the top number line (`1234567890), howcome it only links to the bottom character? What if I want to get to the article on "@"? --24.79.78.151 21:55, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Type it in Search :-D --Soetermans 11:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- It does now. --208.138.31.76 (talk) 21:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Fn key
[edit]Where is an "Fn" key? Kubek15 - Talk, Userboxes, Contributions 17:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- That key stands for "function" and is used for laptops that don't have a number pad. You hold it down along with the Alt key then hit the numbers labeled in blue on the right hand side of your keyboard to do Alt codes. Also, holding down this key and hitting an icon labeled in blue that is usually on the function keys along the top may have effects, such as changing screen brightness, muting sound, changing volume, etc. It isn't on most keyboards, so it doesn't belong on this template. - J-Whitt (talk) 20:03, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Incidentally, the IBM PCjr keyboard, which has only, I think, 60-something keys, has an Fn key, used to issue F1-F10 key codes and some others. So, its purpose is similar to the purpose on laptops with regard to the numeric keypad (but not for sound controls, display brightness, etc.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.242.7.208 (talk) 03:11, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
i find it odd that this keyboard image doesnt contain a 'Fn' key, but it is the only image in the 'keyboard' section of the 'Fn key' wikipedia article.
maybe it's just me.

UK key layout ?
[edit]anyone want to do this ? i'm not too confident tinkering with the formatting to do that. the only difference is the " (on the 2 key) and @ (on the ' key) are swapped. They were originally in those positions, but some american in their infinite wisdom decided to swap them over and the UK did not follow suit. Machete97 (talk) 22:03, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I have also never seen a keyboard with the vertical line/backslash key in the position this template shows. It is always inbtween Z and Left Shift. the position shown in the template is taken up by the double-height entrt/return key. another US/UK difference ? anyone know anything about what other countries keyboards are like ? commonwealth countries ? This is not the US keyboard.
[edit]I could sign in and fix it, but complaining is easier. This isn't even a real keyboard.78.105.241.48 (talk) 16:00, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's not this template, the links are correct. The error is in Image:KB United States.svg. --Imroy (talk) 06:18, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
AltGr key on US keyboard?
[edit]On the keyboard image in this template, the right Alt key is labeled AltGr, but the template is titled as a US keyboard. Standard US keyboards don't have, or typically need, an AltGr (Alt Graph) key; they have two regular Alt keys instead. Could someone fix this? I would, but the page is semi-protected, so I can't. 71.242.7.208 (talk) 03:14, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Missing link
[edit]There is no link on the scroll lock part and since I don't remember my account, I cannot fix it. 98.30.118.172 (talk) 15:12, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Systemic bias?
[edit]on it.wiki we moved "Template:Tastiera" (Template:Keyboard) to "Template:Tastiera italiana" (Template:Italian keyboard) because the name doesn't "represent a worldwide view of the subject". will this template move to "Template:US Keyboard"? --valepert (talk) 16:58, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- Or even better 'US Windows Keyboard', because this is not, e.g., the Macintosh keyboard. --68.170.177.190 (talk) 02:19, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Menu key or Copilot key
[edit]It should really say "Context menu", because that's what it is. 205.228.108.185 (talk) 08:34, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
The Windows keyboard have been updated, and it seems as if the menu key has been replaced with the Copilot key as of 4th of januar 2024. The key has a new icon and its function has been changed to open Copilot. As the function and keycode corresponance has not been tested further details need to wait for additional info. New key icon to the right ⇒[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:4647:c4d4:0:d17a:4295:a97e:d11b (talk) 19:49, January 4, 2024
- I think the background image of the template would have to be updated for this change to occur. –Gluonz talk contribs 19:14, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
Link color consistency
[edit]If the links to the main keys do not appear as blue, then other keys, including the function keys and arrows, should be black links as well. Thanks. 69.155.129.170 (talk) 02:20, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Viewing a different keyboard
[edit]What if someone from the UK or elsewhere doesn't want to view the US layout? Could there be something like a tab on top of the template so users can choose what keyboard they want to view? CokeHanx (talk) 11:46, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Adding a switch to Template:Keyboard that allows the keyboard to switch between Mac and Windows?
[edit]It would be nice if you added a switch statement that detects when the keyboard is Mac and when it is Windows. UpsandDowns1234 (🗨) (My Contribs) 18:18, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
