RFC for adding a plural parameter

[edit]

The wording on this template is a bit awkward and not adapted. The current text is:

This article contains one or more incomplete lists which may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness. You can help by expanding it / them with entries that are reliably sourced.

I propose a new parameter and usage for articles that have multiple lists:

  • {{Dynamic a-list|plural}}
  • {{Dynamic a-list|plural=yes}} (alternative syntax)

This template could use a parameter plural to display the following message for multiple lists in article:

This article contains multiple incomplete lists which may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness. You can help by expanding them with entries that are reliably sourced.

In addition, the parameter syntax plural=no could be used to create the following message:

This article contains an incomplete list which may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness. You can help by expanding it with entries that are reliably sourced.

The text without the plural parameter can be left as-is, mainly also for compatibility reasons and ease of use/ambiguity. true and false statements can be considered to be supported as well.

  • Without commenting on whether this particular proposal is necessary or desirble, I would recommend that the best usage syntax would be {{Dynamic a-list|singular/plural}}, with the current verbiage presented in the case of a missing or invalid first parameter. Proposal to wrapperify

[edit]

This appears to be a mostly copy-and-pasted spinoff of {{Dynamic list}}, and (as so often happens with such templates) it's gotten out of sync (it's missing edits like this one). I'd like to add a parameter to {{Dynamic list}} to allow it to handle plurality and then turn this into a wrapper of it. Does that sound good? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 20:40, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
